Someone on bloos thread commented that bacs brass is much more demanding than crowns...which I think is way off...or am I wrong?

They are wrong. Crown definitely has more musical demand the BAC.   Also, whatever horns they are playing on sound like a kazoo and a chainsaw made a horn… Not good.   (Nothing on the BAC performers themselves, just the instruments)

  2. I rewatched the Flo Broadcast last night and I think that Crown has the potential to win. I didn’t say they would, but they definitely don’t have weak sections this season. A struggle they have had in the past.

Crown has the vehicle to continue to grow their storyline throughout, something that Blue Devils, Boston, Bloo may struggle with after seeing their videos. Will those three become stagnant while Crown continues to push forward? Will this be the year?

Obviously the Brass will be a strong competitor for the Jim Ott but could the battery push into the top 3 with their staff change and new approach to the musical structure?  I think it’s a possibility! The battery seems to have a unique identity and brings a new flavor to drum corps, I’m welcoming it with open arms. Then the color guard looks to be building off their momentum from last season. They are performing more challenging skills and tricks throughout and executing already. I see a Zingali award coming back to Crown.

Bold predictions Brass wins, Guard wins, Drums top 3.

Good thought, but the actor brought more of a sea captain who hunts whales vibe to the video.

I just like the idea of providing more opportunities to young people in a youth activity.

Hope we will see this historically accurate aged male on the field this summer. Maybe even hunting a whale. (Obviously Sarcastic).

The 2023 BAC show trailer was filmed by the media team on the Waterfront in Rockport, Massachusetts...and yes, they hired a professional actor for the shoot.  Well done, Boston.

I think the video was good, I wish they would have used a marching member for the narrator though.  Could have been a neat experience for one of those kids while opening up the opportunity of using the same voice during the show if that’s something they are going to do.

Yep, including the "mandatory" brass SQUAT POSE in the first ten seconds of the video!

Because fans love to see everyone appearing to a quick simultaneous dump!

Hey, you gotta be sure to check the judges' "movement" box!  😁

I’m just glad they are filling in movement parts this early. A big step in the right direction.

  6. Based on the April camp video. The membership look extremely positive for this point of the season.  Take away quotes that made me excited.

“This is something that is different for Crown from the past few years”. I hope that means they are going back to a character show. If this happens they may be untouchable.

“We already feel connected”. Meaning the new percussion team is settling in just fine. They looked very similar from person to person already on that video. Really excited about this one.

“Everyone was doing double turns during the rifle audition”.  Sounds like the guard talent will be through the roof to give them a shot at the guard trophy again.

  7. I’m trying to get excited about the announcement but I’m just not, it seems the design team is so focused on the “ring” that it’s limiting their creative output. I mean, “let’s design a show about the White Whale aka the elusive ring…” just make a good show and if it’s meant to be, then it will happen. But forcing a square into a circle will never work in the end. The man in the announcement video also was an interesting choice.

White Whale Meaning:  Something that someone pursues obsessively and with little chance of success.

At least we will hear some Bernstein, that’s my positive take away.

I've already made a placement prediction earlier in the thread  so I think this prediction will pertain to non placements.

The top three will be cleaner on finals night than they were in 2022. Watching BAC and Bloo's finals runs it was clear BAC had a ...not sure a bad run is the right word....but they made mistakes that usually didn't occur in previous performances. Had they not made a couple of them they would have taken third and Bloo would have taken 3rd. At least in my opinion.

Anyways....I just think the runs for pretty much all the corps wasn't as clean as they were in 2019. Two years off I expected them to not be as they were in 2019. However...they were better than I thought they would be. So I expect 2023 will be much much better for everyone.

BD will once again be in the top three. Even though I haven't been a fan of Bloo the past few years I think they'll be there as well. But my question is what Crown and BAC will do. Before last summer I would have never thought BAC would over take Crown...then at about halfway through their season I knew they would. So this season I dunno. Either of them will be in the top three. If Crown fixes their GE they'll be in top three. I know everyone goes on about their percussion but looking at GE recaps it's clear GE did more damage overall then percussion did.

Cavies will be re energized for their 75th.

Troopers will be another fan favorite and possibly stay in finals again if they don't over do it to out do their 2022 show.

Crossmen/ Blue Knights will battle to get back into finals.

Brass will be between BD and Crown.

Percussion will be between BD and Bloo since SCV is out.

Lately color guard has been to BAC as brass has been to Crown. Even so Crown has lost the Ott four times since 2012 so their not invulnerable. I would say the same about BAC. Three times in a row 11' 12' 13' but lost it in 2014. BAC has taken the color guard award the past three years. Lets see if they keep it.

I think you are right about Bloo remaining in the top 3.  And I think Brass will also be between BD and Crown, both solid programs and will come down to overall design and presentation of the specific sections.

Not sure Troopers can pull it off two years in a row. But maybe I’m wrong.

Is there a world where Crossmen and Blue Knights both get in?  Meaning Troop is out?

Perc I think goes away from Bloo and maybe back to BD?  This will be interesting to watch now that SCV is out.

Guard has been going to BAC, but I was really impressed finals night with Crown I wouldn’t be surprised with a change here, or at least more pressure on BAC. BD is always a solid contender as well.

I think Scouts here is a lot of wishful thinking.  I only see one unit possibly dropping out of last year's top 12, and there's several corps ahead of Madison that should stay ahead of them.  The top 10 from last year should be locks, Troopers should be BETTER than last year, and that only leaves one spot for Colts/Crossmen/BK/Madison.

It absolutely is wishful thinking for scouts to be back, but we can all hope and dream.

    1. Carolina Crown (10 years since the 1st win, it’s time again)
    2. Blue Devils (I mean it’s the Blue Devils, they wont drop to 3rd)
    3. Bluecoats (Shows are always interesting and innovative)
    4. Boston Crusaders (Will have a good show, but not the same level as the top 3)
    5. Phantom Regiment (They have ups and downs, I think they may be on the up swing again)
    6. Cavaliers (With lots of staff turnover they will look completely different, in a good way)
    7. Cadets (Will be good, not great, but not bad either)
    8. Blue Stars (Same as Cadets, will be good, not great, but not bad either)
    9. Mandarins (Will be hard to move up without more talent)
    10. Blue Knights (I think they have made good staffing decisions to get them back into the mix)
    11. Madison Scouts (I’m hoping they figure something out, I miss them in finals)
    12. Crossmen (Will give a decent design, just needs to get back in with some solid runs)

Honorable mention that could make it in. Troopers and Colts

Oof. That’s a bit out there. Not impossible, but they haven’t beat Boston since what, around Broken Arrow? They haven’t scored any closer than 1 point to BD all season. Then, Bloo is surging. I would guess Crown is closer to 4th than 1st.

Crazy things happen this week. Keep the faith!

What’s not crazy is Crown winning, it’s going to happen.

    Speaking of CrownGuard….

I enlisted in the Flo Army—has worked well, for the most part—so I’ve caught all those performances. Missed a live performance @ NightBEAT, but no need to beat further that dead horse.

Been watching some pretty decent YouTube vids, ad nauseum, and I haven’t been paying enough attention to the 800 lb. gorilla on the field: the Guard is nothing short of spectacular this season.

This has been pointed out before, but focusing on them specifically for the past few days has given me a new appreciation. Hope that bodes well for us not only this week,  but in seasons to come.

    GO CROWN👑👑👑!

Will pass Boston soon! They have it all!

This is probably somewhat delusional (or maybe not) but I just saw a video of Carolina Crown's Saturday performance at DCI East and WOW, they were really really good. Could they possibly challenge BD in Indy? Brass certainly seemed in top form. I still do not like all the "right here, right now" stuff. I enjoy it at the onset of the show and maybe in a few other spots but it seems overused. But the show clearly has some WOW effect and the DCI East audience ate it up.

Not delusional at all. Crown will continue to create energy in the stadium and clean this week. They will win.

Show is unique, fun, standard setting, and they are great at it.
