I was in my seat for Colts Cadets and did not leave until Blue Devils last note. I did not notice people leaving in droves when Boston Crusaders finished and the response to Blue Devils was hardly muted, especially during “Moon River” which merited a standing “o.” I’m a Boston fan who wanted and fully expected BAC to win but I have a lot of respect for BD, even when I don’t like the show. Personally I think the old everyone loves to hate the Blue Devils, at least the way it used to be, decreased after Crown won in 2013, especially with BD’s 2014 where everyone loved their show.

I guess I was in the wrong section because there was very little love for BD where I was sitting.  But that doesn’t stop me from showing my appreciation to all of the corps.  Great night for drum corps!

I was there, high up in the stands. You are correct. Phantom built up a huge electric moment, and it seemed every was just "meh" after them. I'm sure there are those who will say "oh they just play loud" and maybe, but the crowd ate it up with a knife and fork. It's what most fans want from drum corps and are missing these days.

They also had the biggest and quickest standing ovation of the night!

Phantom always performs beautiful and classic drum corps shows, but you do know that any of the top five ranking corps could learn their show in a week and perform it at an extremely high level in two, right?

I would add to this that Boston has to perform their show with 100% intensity or it doesn’t work. The first half of the season, their show didn’t grab me at all. It just seemed to lay there, but then something started happening in TX and it became a completely different, riveting animal.

Tonight it felt like early season again. If they don’t put the fire in, it doesn’t engage.

In contrast, BD has such deep content layering that, even on a flat night, there is just so much in it visually and musically that it will still communicate. Their staff filled the show with fail-safe moments as insurance.

Next week they are in their comfort zone with the indoor rehearsal space at the end of the week, so tonight may have been the best chance to knock Blue Kong off the Empire State Building.

Yes, yes, yes!  Thank you for expanding on my thoughts so eloquently 😁

Easier to discuss scores than consent huh? Duly noted.

Every corps should be immensely proud of their accomplishments. I wish all MMs a spectacular final leg to the season.

    Gnite all!

No, I think this is an important topic!  Some of the content in this show is definitely pushing the limit of good taste and being family friendly.  I feel uncomfortable watching certain parts of this show and I would have been really unhappy with the subject matter had I brought my son when he was a middle schooler falling in love with drum corps to see this performance.  Not to take away from the performers who perform at such a high level one and all.
