IRMO - thank you for pointing that out. I read the post you mention and understand how they MAY have done it. However, that is in contradiction to what they SAY was the method used.
We do not believe there's any "draw" mentioned or any sort of ambiguity associated with "Lineup was determined by the competitive results of the DCI Eastern Classic on July 7 and 8 in Allentown, Pa."
To most reasonable people - the methodology described in the DCI.org article would give the preferred performance position (last) to the corps that scored the highest. The next most-favorable position to the corps that scored the next-highest. And so on.
If a draw was in-fact used to determine the performance order in Atlanta - why not just say so?
It is the lack of attention to details on the ONE thing that DCI should have no problems executing - contest management - that makes one wonder.
Maybe its just the heat and the need for a fresh mojito - of course.
From the DCI Website
Georgia Dome; Atlanta, GA
Lineups for the July 14, Coltrin & Associates DCI Southeastern Championship in Atlanta, Ga. Lineup was determined by the competitive results of the DCI Eastern Classic on July 7 and 8 in Allentown, Pa in combination with a random draw in groups of threes (1-3 ranked corps, 4-6 ranked corps, etc.).

Yes, they are the same judges. Some will compare them, some will say they can't be. Do whatever you like.
Are they judging the same captions?

It seems like every contest someone new wins. So far we've had Cavaliers, Cadets, Blue Devils and Bluecoats win one. Not to mention Vanguard, Phantom and Crown very very close.
I know history states some corps like Crown don't have a chance but when you have corps all within 2-3 points I say the race is truly for once up for grabs.
In 1985 at the end of semi finals, the top four corps, Cadets, Santa Clara, Blue Devils and Madison were all within .6 So we have had some great races in the past.

Madison's opening score has averaged 67.67 for the last 5 years. A score of 68 or above tonight looks good for the year, under 67, probably a struggle.

Does anyone know the future dates for finals? I am just trying to plan way ahead.

Cavies

Good as usual but the Bluecoat show does nothing for me.

I wonder if the US Naval Academy wireless system will not allow them to do this? It does seem to me that everything should have been worked out in advance.

Since it takes judges a couple of times to get a good viewing, what are your predictions for Annapolis?
These are mine;
Cadets
Cavies
Bluecoats
Crown
Glassmen
Spirit

Does anyone know if the encorp video will be the full show, or jsut clips?

I need to ask David Coolidge a question, but I cannot find his email address anymore.

2003 PR was a great one. Also in 2003 Crossmen had a nice opener of Somewhere over the Rainbow that was pretty good.
Madison 75, Slaughter

For the first time I can remember, the top three were all winners. Meaning that I did not care who won, anyone of them would have made a tremendous champion.

I ordered my DCI 2006 World Championships DVD/CD bundle today, and I noticed two things;
They say the CD's will be ready by late August
They are only doing the top 12. You can download the others.
Comments?

This is a smart move, in the long term (just as Orlando was back then; the deal they cut for those three years is what allowed Acheson to get DCI on its feet again).
This will allow the DCI staff to become much more efficient in issues having to do with locating a stadium (done, for the next decade at least), local housing, etc etc etc. They'll be able to establish regular housing partnerships with schools in the area (a HUGE isssue these days - as witness the last minute housing site request this year), and I'd believe it has to increase the liklihood of finding multiple corporate event sponsors, since they'll be able to point to the participation of the Indy government as an imprimatur of drum corps' importance to their local host city.
It also frees up the staff from having to spend time on the road during champs week and will reduce the travel and lodging expenses to the org, since for Finals week, everyone on staff will be working from home .
Honestly, I don't find Indianapolis to be a particularly thrilling cultural destination, but then again, neither is Buffalo or Madison (yes, I know, Indy has shopping and a museum or two; so do every mid-sized city in America). During the two days I go (semis and finals), I'm usually focused on drum corps things anyway, so as long as there's at least one restaurant open past 11 pm (one that doesn't require you to drive through to order food... :P ), it'll be fine.
BTW, on an historical note, you could consider this DCI "going home", as the meeting between the east coast corps and the midwest/western "Combine" corps that resulted in forming DCI happened in Indianapolis in 1971.
We held the Southern Baptist Convention there a couple of years ago and it was the perfect setup. We did not have to move the car a single time. Plenty of hotels within walking distance and a myriad of restaurants. Some fast food, some medium price and a few that were among the best I have experienced.

People were up in arms over the 1988 format, but it work, and IMO it should be standard today. The judges in semis and finals HAD TO give the right numbers because they didn't know what the other panel was going to do and it could have turned the activity upside down if say we won Semis and landed in 5th in finals.
I have been saying the same thing for years. I have been writing for DCW for over 20 years, and have experience in marching, teaching and judging. I would love to see them not only use the same format, as 1988, but I would also like to have them have two full sets of judges for regionals and finals. You could have them average the scores but you would still see the differences between the judges. I also think the scores should be entered by the judges on a computer and have the scores announced before the next corps appears.

Trumpets are off in the swing section...phasing and fracking all over the place.
Drill is tight, drums are groovin'!
I still think Cadets will have a penalty for time issues. Might keep Bluecoats ahead.

Were they late? It seems as if they did all of the mic checks after the announcer said to take the field. If so could be a penalty.

This entire thread remionds me of a person I was interviewing for the position of Music Minister. I am a pastor of a church, have a degree in instrumental education, and have plyed trumpet professionaly with different symphony orchestras. He did not know any of that. He comes in and immediately says his name and the fact that he has perfect pitch. He then added that I could test him.
We went itno the sanctuary and I played piano for him. He rarely came within a 4th of the note. He left convicned that he had perfect pitch, but that our digital keyboard was at least a 4th of. By the way, I did not hire him.

I think the scores at San Antonio were to high compared to last years.
Actually the scores are low compared to 2004 and 2003. Where the glassmen are currently 12th with an 80.7, in 2003 12th palce had an 84.40.
Blue Devils are currently 1st with 92.75, but the lead in 2004 was at an 93.250.

Because of the rainout and scheduling, Madison, Glassmen and Spirit will have three days of before having a contest. Will it hurt or help them?

Blue Devils 92.4
SCV 86.5
Madison 84.7
Glassmen 82.8
Spirit 82.0
Crossmen 78.1
Seattle 70.1
