SO!!! its a forum regardless, and since people are to hell bent on their own issues to monitor all the threads, this is just a good thread as any to post any opinion.
A little advice, let's not spout off about how appropriate things are in one thread when ALL the other threads are taken past what the original poster intended. Ok maybe not all, but 99% of them.
Oh, Dan, by the way, your RIGHT!

I guess I shouldn't have an opinion, sorry

The SCV tilt thing I always assumed was brought on by Jim Casella, considering, that happened at SCV when he came in, correct me if I am wrong.
After he left the Cavies started using it....but that's where Casella is.
As far as the "stick work" yeah, I think more groups today are concerned with hitting the drum with both sticks and kicking their feet rather than doing something impressive with their sticks/playing.
I mean, sure, the crowd goes nuts when a line has their feet apart, squit like their dropping a deuce and play some big unison hits, but I guess that's what impresses us these days, the shock and awe of it all.

blue stars beat scouts.
First off, that matter's where. Second, if someone is choosing to audition for a corps or not based on where that corps placed in some random year, they are picking and marchign for the wrong reasons.
Oh yeah, by the way, just cause some corps beat another doesn't mean the one that "beat the other" is going to have more talent show up.
That's a pretty naive approach to thinking about a groups quality.
-
No, it's probably that there is no basis for this persons opinion of quality, other than what is currently going on. Heaven forbid the past have quality.
-
-
Oh, ok...I get it now
-
Oh don't do that, then you'll never get to march.
-
Because, if they were to shun those people, who would they have to spout off their banter about what corps are good and bad.
I mean...we need people around that only know who is good because they have seen score threads or have seen the video from last year.
It helps them have a better understanding and more foundation for their argument that corps that they have never seen or heard from, oh, 5 years ago aren't as good as today's corps, because how could they have been better? They haven't seen them, there's no way they could be better.

1) is probably a decade away...sad to say.
Not if Cracky Hopalot has anything to do with it.

Ooh, ooh, pick me, I have one.
Cadets are in DCI, but design their shows like they are in BOA...
Ooh, I'm funny guy.

Geno:
I do not want to put you down for your efforts in being part of the alumni corps (or any other alum for that fact.)
I was just wondering-- Has a majority from the alumni corps by chance sponsored a Scout Member ($2000.00) in his dues this year? Or donated a sizeable amount of money to the corps comparable to what one spent to be in the Madison Alumni Project last year? Or in a support role as a volunteer with the Scouts this season. (as opposed to the amount of time spent on DCP?)
I am not saying drop everything in your life and give to the Scouts (or else).
Just, . . is there active support from alumni THIS year when it appears the Corps really needs it?
What say you?
Yes
What say YOU?
Oh, and I am not Geno, but I figured as one who has done these things, among others, I can honestly answer this question.
-
I think I am being followed by the symantics police.
-
By the way...the quotes that you took from my posts are clearly thoughts being expressed, almost in question form, I would hardly call that an opinion.
It's not as though I said "The 1991 Cavaliers had the best 2nd place show of all time," that, my friend, I would call an opinion.
-
So I am talking out of my ### but the morons on here that are #####ing about the Scouts scores that haven't seen them, or that think they know why Sal was asked to resign and are posting that he needs to come back as though it's fact that he was asked to leave due to placement are not? I see how it is.
The funny thing is, 99% of us do not have facts about what we talk about, i'll give you that, but I won't sit here and get blasted by someone that is trying to twist my words around and acuse me of using my words in the way that they think I am because they have some ####### agenda.
Play that game though, that's fine, I am not really hurt by the words of someone that is probably as losely informed as most of the people on this website.
Come to think of it, I don't even know why I use this website.

You're bitter about something. There. Happy now?
That was solely because someone asked me if I was bitter about a prediction pole.
-
So the horns "take a break" what's the matter, the drill too hard, if it is, somethings wrong with the teaching.
And besides, if a hornline needs to take a knee for so much as 30 seconds, I would call that a good chunk of the show, considering these programs are only 11 or so minutes long.
I mean, don't have them play, that's fine, but hiding, that's just a sign of weakness to me. Do breathing block, or do a 3 mile run, build some stamina. If it's a focus on the guard and drumline thing, design the visual better so you don't have to hide behind the wall. Oh wait, I get it, they're off stage.

While we're on the subject of facts and having the right to hold certain opinions based on proximity and involvement in the actual situation, you might want to rethink posting this little diatribe about what the judges are "doing" to the Scouts. You don't know any of this. And even as an opinion, it's pretty thin.
There's a difference between a thought, and an opinion. As my post stated, I THINK this is happening. It is not my opinion.
thought (thôt)
v.
Past tense and past participle of think.
n.
The act or process of thinking; cogitation.
A product of thinking. See synonyms at idea.
The faculty of thinking or reasoning.
The intellectual activity or production of a particular time or group: ancient Greek thought; deconstructionist thought.
Consideration; attention: didn't give much thought to what she said.
-
and why is that? Because it's not a Madison bashing thread.
-
This is true, and it is DCP, so it probably is a LAME opinion
-
So since so many of us have so much time to complain about a corps we haven't even seen perfrom this year, but do have the knowledge to spout off an opinion because we have "facts,"
when are we going to whine and complain about the Bluecoats beating so many "top" corps. I mean, seriously, doesn't that turn any heads.
Especially considering the horns don't even march for a good chunk of the show, but I guess as long as we can hide, we must be good.
Just wondering.
Oh ####, I can't wait for someone to call me bitter about something!!

Believe me. They DID NOT expect this. They DID NOT "clean house".
They fired Sal Salas. They DID NOT anticipate that every other
instructor would resign. They DID NOT anticipate that a majority of
the vets would not return. They DID NOT anticipate that, even more
than the Troopers, the Scouts would be starting over in 2007. They
DID NOT realize that their decision would actually put the corps' future
in more jeopardy.
First off, are you sure you have your facts straight. The executive director makes the decision for who the corps director, caption heads, design team, etc. are. That being said, when Sal was asked to resign in August, the 2006 staff did not have positions with the corps. So when the post came out last year that the Scouts brass staff had resigned, which I believe Mr. Boo had posted, they in fact resigned from jobs that they did not have.
Second, it is true that the majority of the percussion program left...i.e. the instructor loyalty, not the corps loyalty, does not mean that they had major turnover in the hornline and possibly not as grave of a guard turnover as most of you people on here that "know" what is going on with the corps.
Third, they are not STARTING OVER, that notion pisses me off because it is off base. Go through the list, much more of the staff has worked with the Scouts in the past who are in for 2007 than in 2006...let's get our ####### facts straight.
I think what it comes down to is that the Scouts are being punished because "Sal was director of the year in 2005" and many liked him, so let's dump on the kids.
Are they dirty, yes! But their show is challenging, which I can not say about many of the groups that are "ahead" of them.
I think much of the problem, and why there are so many threads attacking the Scouts, are based on a few things.
1. The judging community doesn't know how to take the current corps. Are they pro-competition, or pro-entertainment, well, they are both, just not getting credit even though they ARE playing the game.
2. They are getting punished because so many of the judges, that honestly probably don't even know what they are judging, have a grudge because they are A. afraid the corps will go back to a no-critique, screw the judges, or B. they are making a statement over Sal being asked to resign.
All of that being said, why don't those of use that make posts about "facts" contact the Madison organization, and get our facts straight before we make blatant false information based on bad information.
And if any of you are #####ing about this corps, or any other corps as far as performance or score, you better have seen the corps, because if you haven't, YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO AN OPINION. And NO, NOT EVERYONE HAS A RIGHT TO AN OPINION, IF THEY HAVE NO BASIS FOR THAT OPINION.
Now for the lame tag at the end that is supposed to be an attempt at intellectual talk...
what say you...
