  1. Incredibly bright future for Louisiana Stars!! Those contras were so powerful (as was the rest of the talented brass line).

I'm sure this has been discussed, but does anyone know the ties (if any, and I assume there are) to Lafayette High School's marching band? Group of alumni, same staff or directors, or even a non profit branch of the program? I see a lot of similarities in design and the arrangement of the music book and brass writing, and, obviously, they're both in the same community. How related are the two organizations?

We have a few students who are members of Lafayette High School. However, the real partnership is with The University of Louisiana-Lafayette. Staff comes from all over the state as well as Mississippi.

  2. Louisiana stars really took a step back in the show design department this year.

Not sure what show you watched. This is by far the best concept and design, top to bottom, this corps has put on the field. Like, not even the same zip code. Had some type of electronics glitch that prevented all the voice overs and sound effects. But still a wonderfully flowing package.

  3. Ok. I'm 47 which makes me a dinosaur on here. So many my age, so etudes even me, talk about how much better it was in our day. IMHO Bridgemen Alumni aren't helping our cause. I do realize it's a fun group. But, the original Brisgemen were super fun. And good. And competitive!! These guys and gals sound like they are having the time of their lives reliving the glory days. But that's about it. Like a frat reunion in front of an audience. And broadcast live across the country.

  4. Love this Bluecoats show!!! And as an aside, I've been very very pleased with the camera work overall. Seems they are getting the important close up sections right on, and the high cam switch on most of the great drill moments. This is so unlike when I marched in 87, where all the cool drill or snare licks were missed while got to watch a great cymbal roll in the pit!!! Lol!!

  5. Looking forward to seeing Crown tonight. Last time I saw them was in Bentonville, AR. I was truly moved. I am not a sucker for props or dancing, but I AM a sucker for great, passionate brass playing. The soloists before the ballad got me going, and the ballad opened the water faucet. Such wonderful playing. By kids. Yeah. It got me.
