  1. The addition of the synth. is the reason why DCI shows no longer interest me. As a former brass player, I find it very frustrating and I do agree that it is an insult to every brass player on that field. The new DCI crowd really has no interest in how I and others who feel the same. Obviously DCI's ticket and souvie sales must reflect that.

  2. It was just simple request. Nothing more and nothing less. Sorry that we messed up your day.

How odd that the above posters can not read accurately, infer problems not stated when the Blue Stars are complimented, make judgements without reading the full post, and make no comment about the real issues of monetary problems forcing another drum corps to withdraw, while another drum corps shows some class and responds to those in need. More class than these posters. I just hope they are not judges. They seem to have the same close-minded pre-judgement many complain about in other threads. Stop your belly-aching and write a check to the Raiders or at least show the class Blue Stars have. Good for you, Normy.

  3. Well stated. Thank you.

First off, I'm obviously glad your daughter is ok.

Second, you should definitely follow up with the corps on this. If you don't like what the Assistant Director has to say, talk to the Director. If you don't like what the Director has to say, talk to the Board. Maybe, after everyone's had a chance to sleep on it, there was a breakdown in procedure or communication somewhere that could be fixed or improved.

But I'd take it up with the corps first, and not on DCP. Of course we sympathize with you, but nobody on here can provide actual satisfaction or relief. Only the corps can.

Generally, I've found the upper administration of corps to always take safety and security seriously, and am willing to bet there might have been a bit of "heat of the moment" involved. Clearly something went wrong, and while it's a serious situation, it's also one they can look back at now for explanation and improvement. If not... well, that's why you should keep moving upwards and talk to the Director and/or Board.

    Mike

  4. Ditto...it ruins big impact moments. Although it makes Vanguard honks complete, it totally ruins it for the other fans of Drum Corps. Other corps are trying to imitate this pathetic ritual as well. I wish they would just stop.

Yea i agree with ska on that aspect. I reeeeeeally hate goobers talking during a show like that. I will tell them to shut up too!

  5. This is "God's Country" and the Kids are home. Last year we had showers approaching the stadium and they actually split around the stadium. At one point the only sunshine that made its presence shined down at the stadium. Hopefully we will see that same "divine intervention" Friday night if bad weather makes its presence.

Some light showers moving towards the La Crosse area within the next hour or two. Huge blob from a decaying MCS as it runs into the drier air in northern ill and WI will move just south La Crosse. The rain that does make it to the area should remain light to moderate in nature, if at all.

Not sure yet if storms will fire later this evening. Normally when a MCS moves through at this time of day it tends to stabilize the atmosphere a bit. The big question is will the atmosphere have enough time to destabilize again during max heating hours (coming up shortly) to fire off more storms. It looks right now as any rain that does re-develop will remain north of I-94 (Black river falls/Osseo/City Point/Sidney areas) Time will tell unfortunately.

Will post updates as I see them.

  6. A good solution to your long wait is to attend, or better yet, volunteer for their next camp.

As you can see by the date of this post, I have been waiting a very long time for a response. How many camps have they had? I am kinda sick of waiting. Thats just me tho...

  7. I have not logged on in a very long time. A few seasons back, this use to be a daily occurrence. Get the keyboard and electronics off the field. This is what would get me back. Rely on the musicianship and performance ability of your horn line for your impact moments instead of hiding behind a volume knob. No voice within the horn line should ever be synthesized, replaced nor should any dynamics be enhanced. This goes for all the top twelve. I don't invest a week of vacation and blow a ton of cash just to hear 3 or 4 out of the top twelve that do not hide behind this atrocity. Thanks for asking though. DCI does not care for my opinion and I do not see it doing so anytime soon.

George Hopkins is posting on Facebook that he is in a DCI meeting discussing DCI Attendance trends and his summery is that it is not good. That is a direct quote.

So what is it going to take to get you back into the stands?

    Vote and discuss.

ADDED:I realize this poll is not perfect and there might be other categories or questions that could be polled on but this probably will get us in the right direction.

Maybe even someone with DCI might see this and go hmmmmmmmmmmm.

  8. The following quote is what is pushed me to the same conclusion:

.... Then came the hornline doubling synths. I just can't enjoy it anymore...

From the standpoint of a horn line fan and former horn line member regarding the Madison 20 man tuba line, the synth was merely a castration of good players put on public display for all to see.

Using the synth to double horn lines and create artificial dynamics was the last straw for me. I only attended finals last season due to being an alumni of one of the finalist corps. Unless the keyboard/synth is removed entirely from the field, the only show I will attend in the future will be my corps home show.

But, hey, I am only one voice that DCI is not interested in hearing from.

  9. Well the dinosaur comment started it first!!!

Besides, the reason they sit on my front lawn is because of the Pink Floyd music blaring from my stereo.

Somehow I knew this would turn into a "Kids these days. . ." shtick.

Hey, look outside. I think there are some young people playing PSP on your lawn. Go shake your fist at them and yell. Take your dentures out first. The whole "old and weird and wrinkly looking thing" really freaks them out.

  10. Tough to compete with a generation raised by game consoles, cheat codes, and the easy button. They are now showing their influences on the field and selling tickets doing so.

Geez Louise. Can the mods just create a "Dinosaur Complaints" sub forum, similar to the World Series forum, where those who want to say that drum corps today sucks can go grouse about how much better it was back whenever they marched?
  11. The highlighted quote below is what defines the death of Drum Corps for me.

Example....20 tubas and still the need for synth bass backup?

I would classify this as more of a definition of embarrassment

Hornline volumes enhanced by a volume control? Bigger embarrassment.

You know drum corps is dying when……………

    ...

You have more brass on the field than ever and still need amplification.

    ...

  12. Don't hate me cause I marched in the 70's; however, adding keyboards to the ensemble completely changes what a drum and bugle corps is and the sound it once produced. I do appreciate most changes that have taken place...Bb horns...movement in the color guard....etc...etc.... but the synth takes away the credibility of the horn line and musicianship of its players. Being an ex contra/tuba player, I am extremely dissappointed. The volume button is just too easy. To me it is equivalent to the easy button for effect. I guess I can't really add to what has already been said. I can say what it has done to me and that is reduce my respect for the activity. Don't hate me for it, don't accuse me of diss'ing the hard sweat and work of current members, and no, I don't eat babies for breakfast. It is just how I currently feel and that will not change as long as synth's are used in this activity. If the young band kids like it and they are buying all the souvies and filling the stands...then I guess there is nothing I can do but move on.

  13. I agree on the who's got the synth's volume cranked up. I seen the show in Madison. I am trying to understand why Madison's 20 man tuba line still needs to be supported by the keyboard. Cadets also had the keyboard supporting their hornline. With those observations, you can now throw out the loudest hornline stats since I believe the results are tainted.

  14. And then you have those corps, one in particular, who likes to exaggerate on how well things are going. They do this year after year warning their competitors that this is going to be "their year." At season's end they wind up with the same dismal scores and placements. It never fails.

We should soon see a release from the Americanos administration that they will field another full corps this season.
