  1. Yes i agree but the System does account for staging and performance which was not taken into consideration in scranton in my opinion from that judge....also the apprach is really not that different considering the writers especially for weapon at bucs are students of the designer for Cabs....the work is crafted along the same style and im my opinion Cabs does it better, they are spinning like a junior copr guard placed in an all age corp. I just dont agree with the work with the ladders seems like a cover so that most of the guard does not have to really spin anything. Again I am sure people dossagree with me, just my opinion and we will see what happens in Annapolis.

I have only seen videos of Cabs guard, however, Reading is much cleaner and more effective to the whole program. Thanks... My 2 cents...

  2. I get the indoor/WGI thing. But at the same time, why is it affecting the guards and not the percussion sections? I have yet to see a drumline dut-dut their way through two thirds of a show because they "didn't have time" to get it done.

Many of the drum line people follow their instructor. Most of them march in the same places. They also have music on paper to learn during the week. The guards do not have many rehearsals over the winter because most guard people are coming from different indoor guards, different techniques and do not have a way to learn the work correctly from a piece of paper or a video.

The hornline and the drumline usually have how many rehearsals and start learning drill in the spring. The colorguard steps in in May and must learn the entire show that the corps already knows. So, unless we go back to the old school ways of presents, slams, carves, and whatever else, you are going to have a work in progress during the season.

I personally do not even go to a show until the end of the season because i KNOW the shows won't be done. So, if your complaint is that you are a paying customer, then don't go to the show because u know it isn't going to be finished. I would rather see something clean than 10 minutes of pure mess and chaos on the field just to get it done for the first show.

  3. Early June or late May drill rehearsal... 34 horns in a drill written for 56... go figure... to me that just proves they really are a DCA corps... or have all of you forgotten how hard attendance is in late May and June due to graduations, weddings and all means of family obligations?

now if they'd had 56 out of 56 horns there and practiced all week at camp... then... I would have been seriously concerned...

who misses rehearsal for weddings and graduations?

  4. Really???

Just because a group has members that are over 22 - doesn't automatically mean that the program (or members) are world class quality. And it's not just a matter of "choosing" to accept older members - sometimes these members can make the difference between having the guard come out or fold. Not every group has the luxury of having tons of members to choose from. And as for competing in World and accepting the score - being constantly at the bottom of the heap is the best way to ensure a crappy season for all and lower chances of coming out the next season,

WGI already has this policy in place for International Guards in Open class at WGI - it would just be a question of extending that policy.

    Later,

    Mike

i never said that the program or the members would be world class. If your arguement for them not being in world class is because of a low score, why bother to have any age limits on any of the classes? All the arguements you are making also go for A class groups also. Let's just get rid of all the rules...

  5. I don't think removing the age limit completely would get approved but an older age out age is a definite for open class. Like guardguy89 said, it is unfair for open class guards to get bumped to world solely becuase they have a few members that are older than 22. I also think that the open class age limit should be older than the a class age limit. JMO

how would a guard get "bumped" because of having members over the age of 22? the guard would have chosen to take those members over the age of 22. which means they would have had to go to world if they wanted to take those members. i see nothing wrong with that.

i personally do not see a reason to raise the age limit in open class. if a guard made the choice to take someone older than 22, and they don't belong in world class, then they should get the score to reflect that.

  6. Umm...a decent try at establishing a conspiracy by the Evil Empire. One problem , though, with your contention...

DCI is not a taxable organization.

    blink.gif

DCI is not a taxable organization, but the state of ID is... I'm sure the state and local governments love the extra benefits from an extra million dollars or more in tax monies flowing in their accounts. ie: hotels, food venues, bars, gas, tolls....

  7. i think u need to figure out what is most important to you and then go from there on deciding your corps. allentown is an hour north of reading. so reading would be closer. reading is probably going to be cheaper. less dues, less gas. but, if you are looking at possibly marching cadets and getting ur foot in the door and can afford that extra hour drive (which after a weekend is a big difference) go for cadets2...

  8. Here's the funny thing.. how many people come on here and complain about bucs always winning... well.. it's just one more contender to add in there to build dca and possibly change that and all everyone can do is b!*ch about it... as for all the comments about everything else.. if u feel so strongly about it, why are u on here complaining about it. go to someone who can do something... not an endless rant on a public forum. just my 2 pennies...

  9. I don't think it will be the death of other corps, but I do think it is just plain wrong to allow Cadets 2 to compete in DCA. The key to DCA is NO age restrictions. Cadets 2 is intended to be an age-restricted junior corps competing in DCA because of their "no tour" philosophy. This would have never been allowed back in the day when junior corps did not tour extensively - why should it be allowed now? The easy fix is for DCA to implement a rule regarding age restrictions, perhaps with a minimum age to be selected by each corps but no maximum age.

There are several DCI Open class corps that compete in DCA... Jersey Surf and Raiders.. just to name two.... It's nothing new to have them at shows. They've been doing it for years... so.. i don't see this as a valid arguement....

  10. i so agree as far as the presentation...spinning skills, written equipment book....just have to respectfully disagree as far as movement...WGI ..HS A class.....I will admit it does work but as you say they are or seem so talented I think movement wise it could have went beyond basic although I suppose it fits. that aside YES beautiful presentation....JMO

I do agree that it is a little plain.. and repetative.. but... it is very musical... the music is simple... and from what i can see.. those girls are selliing the s*&t out of it! sometimes simple, clean, and effective is the best way to go.... besides.. they are on a football feild, in full lenth skirts... what are u really gonna see from 20 - 50 yds away if they did try to do more??

  11. i see what youn are saying..lots of technique is the same so nothing stands out unless its a gimmick or something...PRs guard is probably one of the cleanest guards in a very long time BUT to me..especially in the movement dept. it looks very 1980s.. I swear I was looking at old SCV or a WGI high school A guard ( very dated and very basic movement ) nice spinning though and as I said clean as hell.

But I think you could be right in your statement. You see the same thing..peggy spins

( maybe time to retire them ) angle tosses, etc etc

I totally understand what you are saying.. it kind of reminds me of PR back in the day of 1996. maybe it looks very 80's because it's not 20 lbs of crap in a 10 lb bag that doesn't make sense???

  12. I've watched many dci groups online and i feel that the sport is not being pushed enough outdoors, for example: There are many groups doing what i would consider a darker show but the concepts aren't going anywhere new. I feel that if you are world class at any level you should be challenging the ''norm'' and making your group everyday prove that you should be the best of the best. I feel as though groups are falling into their own equation of what a good show should be and not taking any risks.

i'm agreeing with you here. but what i'm noticing is that all the guards look the same.. they all spin the same way.. same technique.. same style.. not much setting one guard apart from another. no distinct style... nothing really new, different, or exciting... BORING.... did notice cavies guard on stilts... and phanton has a distinct style... crown w/ some crazy tricks... other than that... BORING

These are supposed to be the best color guards in the world, and no one is pushing much of anything.. Kind of sad.. I'm watching corps almost contantly in straight lines and boxes, guard mostly staged as an after-thought. minimal integration....

  13. Does anybody know what song Beatrix used for the fast middle red flag section? I know the last song was from Pearl Harbor but I'd love to get that quick Beatrix song. Thanks!

you can find it on a on itunes... ars arcana trailer music. i forget what it was called.. i thought about using it a couple years ago.

  14. which is why I think Cadet2 will be a good thing for the Allentown Cadets organization,.................this will provide for a more local pool of developing talent for the Allentown Cadets to fill their junior corps ranks, as the continuing cost of travel to auditions and camps in the off season, let alone the cost of dues and fees to be a member of such a corps continues to balloon,.............

most of the allentown school district bands do not have a competative marching band, and now most of the schools that do or did within the area are being cut. for most people, if you do not do competative marching band, u have no idea what drum corps even is! i do not believe that cadet2 will be pulling much local talent. most of the people that the bucs have been getting are not all that local to the reading area.

  15. I get it from a metal fabricator..they sell all sorts of Alum. sheet metal etc etc. stuff and they also cut it to size for you if you want . It comes in 18ft. lengths so if you use 6' poles you get 3 out of each piece. Comes to about 4.00 -4.50 per pole. then of couse u have to get your weights and stoppers.
