  1. Rooms and concert tickets sell out quickly for this amazing weekend. I found out this morning that I have extra of both. One or two rooms at the Bradford Inn, which is right on the waterfront, and walking distance to everything, and two or four tickets front row section M7 for the concert Saturday night. Any interest? Our friends told us this morning that they can't go. We'll let go of one room and two tickets, or if you need both, we'll let them all go.

11/3 Update - the rooms are gone. Still have four great tickets for the show Saturday night. If I understand correctly, the sale of tickets stops 11/19. I can't go, and the tickets are non-refundable. I paid $27 plus $3 handling each. Make an offer.

  2. For those that are making the treak to Rochester and those watching the live feed the biggest disappointment in Minnesota Brass's show is that you'll only get to see it two more times live. Regardless of placement it's one of those shows that you'll love to watch over and over. It's a tantelizing seamless production from beginning to end with maddening melody and captivating harmonic. It has all of the right ingredients to give you goose bumps and the chill's.[/quote

I agree. While I don't think the execution ranked top 3, I really enjoyed this show. I'm looking forward to seeing it again tonight!

  3. Feed is great

Wah. The wifi available at the shore house was so lame, it finally wouldn't even connect to the internet. I resorted to using my iphone hotspot, which in addition to costing a fortune, is terrible. The laptop is new, so there isn't any reason to try and tweak my flash settings but I'll do that at next intermission. Thinking about packing up and going home tomorrow am. I'm not sitting through finals like this, you know? It was such a great plan.

  4. i'm sure this will offend some but....beach and watching finals there or Rochester......

    I'll take beach.

You can understand why I felt I needed to be there last year. Rochester has a way of teaching me lessons (ahem). This year I just want to immerse myself in a great show, a few growlers of Cape May Brewery IPA, some great food (we usually ended up nearly starved at DCAs), and a 65 mile drive I could do in my sleep!

  5. We were OK with WiFi, our new laptop and HDMI cable last year. The Internet connection is in the back of the house and living room is in the front so it was WiFi or trip over a 50 ft cable all weekend. Weird part is I work IT but we never had a laptop or used the WiFi until last year for DCA Weekend. And yes, we bought the laptop and set up WiFi because of DCA. What an excuse to get to the 21st Century.....

Now time to sign up for this year...

Not sure if we are going to top what you've spent, but I'm pretty sure we could have gone to Rochester for the weekend for what we did! So far - for the beach house: one 40" TV for the living room; one 32" TV for the master bedroom (just because); two very expensive swiveling wall mounts (because these both need to be corner mounted); one Chromecast; One HDMI cable; the Fan Network, and ResortNet at the shore. Oh, and snacks and adult beverages. And still, I'll miss catching up with everyone :unhappy:

  6. i only ever watch the shows on WIFI. few issues unless it's prelims last year or DCi finals 2 years ago

Thanks, Jeff. Your input (always trusted :satisfied: ) has helped me a lot. Final decision is to watch prelims at the shore on a 40" flat screen with laptop /wifi / Chromecast. Going home early Sunday morning because we'd like to avoid the Labor Day crazies at the shore & on the roads. That will be 55" flat screen with laptop / wifi / and traditional HDMI cable. I just have a feeling the cable is the more reliable choice. Just a few more details to iron out & I'll be moving into this century - not the least of which is to order the darn thing. I'll do that right now.

  7. LOL. The only time I'm in a hotel these days is when I actually go to championships. I own the place at the Jersey shore, but my viewing will be split. Saturday will be at the shore. Easiest deal there is wifi + Chromecast. Finals will be at home, and I am going to use an HDMI cable. The only question I still hsve is whether to use the laptop wired (with HDMI), or wirelessly (with HDMI). Any thoughts on that?

  8. So change in plans. I'll catch prelims on the laptop at the shore. It's not a hotel, but it is my own cottage in a resort (hence the wonky wifi). However, we have decided to come home in time for finals. Sadly, I may be married to one of the best tuba players in drum corps, but electronics... not so much. I wish one of you folks who sound like you know what you are doing lived near me. So the modem is upstairs in my office, and the only big screen TV is downstairs. To avoid using wifi, I need a really long cable of some sort so I can connect the lap top and take it downstairs. What kind of cable would that be? Next item - this HDMI cable you speak of - I go (where) and ask for (what), then do (this) with it. Can anyone fill in the blanks (in a way I don't regret this decision)? And this Chromecast you speak of... um...

Anyone live in South Jersey or near Philly?

  9. Linda -

You WILL be able to view the program at the shore, ASSUMING you can receive a wi-fi signal, either by paying a hotel for that or logging-in from some other location (residence, business, etc.) that provides a signal. Additionally, if the wi-fi signal is poor (like found in most hotels) you might not be pleased with the experience.

If all the stars align, it's a very enjoyable way to see the event. Good Luck!

Are you looking at viewing via the I-Pad, phone or laptop?`I recall seeing a friend on FB say something about DCI not working well with his device, but I don't recall who it was to ask more questions of to pinpoint the problem.

Like Liz says HDMI cable between pc and tv.

And either WiFi in the place or long tailed cable from Internet connection to where the pc needs to be.

LOL main reason we finally bought a laptop was to use the home WiFi to watch DCA without stringing a cable the whole way thru the house..

So we can get wifi at the resort. It is probably not the best, but I did use it with "OK" success in 2013. Last year I felt I needed to be in Rochester - but that's a story for another day, right? So given that, I do have access to fairly reliable wifi, and a widescreen laptop. The place is quite small, but I'd still like to consider blowing it through the TV, and / or some speakers loud enough to annoy my neighbors.

Liz, I'd ask if you wanted to come down but #1 - we wouldn't be on the beach anyway, so why get in holiday shore traffic, and #2 - I highly recommend your trying to get down the following weekend instead.

  10. First and most important question: Do you have an HDMI cable input on the TV to take the feed from your laptop to the TV?

2nd question which has less importance, does that tv have a sound bar you can buy for it for cheap? Best thing I ever bought for my living room IMO.

No and no, which is why I'm trying to get some help with this NOW. My first question, after having read the info on the fan page, is - if wifi is my only option, does that mean I will not be able to view this at the shore?

  11. Hard to believe we are still discussing Cabs' uniforms. They hoisted three snare drummers up on trapezes for Heaven's sake! LOL. (JK). Anyway, as far as the observation that the new unis aren't Spanish... I'm not so sure. They aren't "Caballero," as in "Gentleman." But I see very distinct Conquistador influences in the current (not necessarily permanent) uni. I mean, I think we can all agree that if that is their intent - and why wouldn't they want to dress in the style of Conquerors for this show? - they obviously can't wear metal armor. But I can definitely see the influence in the current uni. The uni, by the way, was designed by a company that makes it's living by designing guard uniform (see the program). What that says to me is that it's built for speed and performance. Again... three trapeze frames on the field. Coincidence? Probably not.

  12. Funny thing is, the change was probably long overdue. Every other corps in that show last night has changed their uniforms - most more than once. And it wasn't that long ago that everyone's biggest gripe about the Cabs was that they never change. The irony of the sweeping visual changes against a show based on a romantic oldie wasn't lost on a number of observers, and I even saw a few tears during the ballad. Maybe Unchained Melody brought back memories of some guy in kick pleats. But maybe the greater message is just what it says... they're unchained.

  13. I don't necessarily think the corps who will eventually topple Bucs will need to "out Buc the Bucs." The corps who toppled Brigs in 2003 bore no resemblence to them, plus had a new staff, a new style, and didn't start the year on top. Cookie cutter would have been the easier way, but it is, in the end, about an entire season's worth of hard work, unwaivering belief in your total package, and getting the higher score on Labor Day Weekend.
