  1. There is no difference in shows between Open and World.. Same sheets, same time limits.

OC corps might choose the lesser times of the spectrum because it benefits them.. if they want to compete at a World Class level, then they up the difficulty, length of show, etc, etc to compete.. but if you can't clean, it doesn't matter if you are playing a symphony or a childhood nursery rhyme as your show.

Any corps (or band, or guard, etc) that designs a show that maximizes the talent, abilities, and potential of their membership finds success. Those who miscalculate any of those items, finds the opposite to varying degrees.

You can either get ###### off that an Open Class beats you, or you can go back to my previous statement and adjust. (Something Cascades did VERY well with TURN a few years ago, and something I think Pioneer is attempting to do with their Joan of Arc show this year)

    *end rant*

  2. Not sure where to post this, but we could really use the support of the Drum Corps Community on this one:

Adamson HS Band is up for 2 Grants, one for $2,500 and one for $100,000!

Voting is live! Please vote once a day everyday in October!

$100,000 would change my student's worlds! It would finally put enough instruments into the hands of ALL my students, and update some very poor instruments into quality! Please share this email and the links inside with everyone you've ever met! 😊 Encourage them to vote daily in October, so everyone get 31 votes! There are 15 finalists and 6 receive the grant. I am the only finalist from Dallas, there are two from Houston, and the rest are all over the country. We are the only High School Band on the list!

  3. I would love to see all DCI recordings and videos just become individual downloads on iTunes. Maybe the shows that have more expensive rights are more expensive downloads?

There doesn't seem to be an easy answer, but I really hope that we don't lose the right to own recordings of new drum corps.. love the live broadcasts and theater, and while I don't rewatch shows, I relisten to them a great deal.

  4. So three regional CA Corps:

    Watchmen - Riverside, CA

Incognito - Garden Grove, CA (welcome back!!!)

    Golden Empire - Bakersfield, CA

    are on the schedule....

    saw on facebook that

    Eruption - WA

    Guardians - TX

    Lousiana Stars - LA

were approved, but don't see them on the schedule.... but when I saw the schedule earlier today the CA corps hadn't been added... so I suspect the schedule will be updated over the next few days to show us where we can watch these new corps in action! Are there other corps out there not listed?

  5. I am sure there will be more talking when information is released. Unless you are on these group's individual facebook pages, or scouring the DCI schedule, you wouldn't know the status change. I am sure DCI is going to an article about them, especially with so many in one year! New growth in Open Class (and in Soundsport, several solid groups it seems)

  6. Very curious to see who is applying for DCI Open Class Status this year and who's doing SoundSport. Keep seeing names pop up, thought it would be nice to have a thread dedicated to new faces:

Watchmen (CA) and Guardians (TX) appear to be attempting a move from Soundsport to DCI Open Class

Southwind (AL) and Railmen (NE) appear to be reviving old coprs to compete in Soundsport

Maelstrom (TX) is a new developing group in SoundSport/DCI?

    Others?
