Welcome back, we missed you!

I love GLEE, call me a GLEEK, lol... and I enjoyed the small bit that included the band. Always nice to see a marching ensemble of any kind in mass media... and you know what, it gets the kids in band excited, regardless of what the uniforms looked like.

We, the corps, have to have permission to arrange turned in way back in Feb to DCI. There may be some lingering issues, but we have to communicate them. The only corps who get synchronizing rights, are those of us who produce our own DVD/video material. Otherwise, it is handled by DCI. Synchronization rights takes a long time, so it's not really fair to blame DCI or the corps when they don't come through. The only true way to avoid is to do original music (both loved and hated by fans) or public domain (both loved and hated by fans) OR plan shows a few years in advance and get a jump on ALL possible rights you would ever need. By using an active copyrighted work, there is always a risk, EVEN AFTER PERMISSION IS GRANTED. It's just the way of our world. We've been lucky that only a few selections have gotten to the point of being 'muted'
If you ever see drastic changes to a corps repertoire during the winter months, or a corps announce a 'list' of tunes they are looking at, or wait until almost June to announce... it could be precautions in trying to make sure that every I is dotted... or at last as close as we can get.

Yeah Platinum competed/exhibition in AIA (Atlantic Indoor). with brass, percussion, and guard, similar to the small drum corps association project. They did that for 3? or so years, last year as a drum corps with a short season, and this year would have been year 5

Recruitment is hard for any DCA corps, especially in areas without decades of history surrounding the All-age side of the activity. Retention is even harder.
Getting names on a list has never really been much of a problem it seems.. some booths, some ads, emails to band directors, newspapers, etc. We can probably all list hundreds of ways to get people to sign up for recruitment emails.
Every corps tries various methods to get people in the door. To have the magical combination of name, image, staff, show, equipment, rehearsal facility, schedule, dues, tour, etc to keep people there, motivated, and willing to help drive your corps to the field and beyond... that's the challenge. Plus in dealing with a corps of adults, it becomes an even bigger struggle as people are joining your corps with more knowledge and maturity. Adults are looking for an activity for fun, challenge, family fun, etc, etc.
I hated reading about MCL not coming back out this year as it appeared they were going to be making a strong return. I do hope they can come back in the future. They have a unique show concept and style that I greatly appreciated and hope to see again.
More corps = better for everyone!
What's all this Chase Giving noise and why does it matter?

I don't have the link handy, but saw that Frontier is trying to comeback out this year, and their non-profit is eligible (Frontier Performing Arts Association)
