Performing at Prelims in the beautiful weather was my most favorite moment. Performing the driving rain last year left something to be desired.
Another favorite moment was hanging out with Music City Legend to record our show music on Sunday (another beautiful day).

I'm not a horn player, but I know that Gulf Coast Sound is G all the way!

I know I can speak for GCS to say that you are certainly welcome. As we continue to support each other, Texas will have its own DCA circuit so that we can get more Texas area musicians involved in this activity that we love so dearly. As your slogan says, we want to get as many as we can, "Back On The Field!"

Time to get this party started!

I just came in from a long day at camp, and when say the headline, my jaws drop. I only been involved in all-age drum corps scene for four years, but I know that the Skyliners have been a fixture for a lot of years. Please come back next year.

This is why I say if you compete in DCA at ANY DCA show (even if you only get a chance to do so at DCA prelims) you should get a vote...one corps, one vote...MUCH mroe representaive that way....but that would make sense.
Or we need an electorial college system in DCA. The small guys should have an equal voice!

Drumline has been the hardest for GCS this year. We've lost three highschoolers in the last two camps. Being the oldest marching member of the drumline (at almost 48 years old), I want to retire to the pit in a few years, but unless we get a consistent base, I'm never going to get to retire.

Congratulations, Brent! You are really getting things rolling in Austin.
By the way, GCS is marching in the Houston DCI show the week before our show. Check it out at http://www.excitementofsound.org
See ya next month at the Preview!

Only about 5 weeks away. Don't miss it!

GCS is looking forward to the trip to Tennessee. We'll be sure to leave a ticket for Elvis at Will Call. ^OO^
-
Thanks, Joe.
We have some good talent this year and hopefully we'll have a good showing in the DCA South Regional and Rochester. We will definitely have more shows under our belts to help hone our ensemble this year. We are planning to compete in five DCA-sanctioned shows before Rochester and one DCI show here in Houston.

Looks to be a GREAT night of Drum Corps in Houston.. heard there may be a few addtions to the line up.
The more the merrier! This is going to be a rehearsal for 2008's DCA South Regional Championship to be held in H-town!

Hello everyone! My pipe band is getting rid of marching snares that are meant for drum corps. Some how they ended up in our band, but we can't use them because they are not for pipe band. We are interested in giving them to corps in need. For more information, email my pipe major Dan Aird at
mailto:danaaird@yahoo.com
It would be helpful to know the brand and color.

We're not likely to make it to DCA until 2008 anyway, if then with the new 35 rule.
Shadow, you know you could have come home and marched with GCS. B)

There's a reason it is called DRUM and Bugle Corps. Drumline all the way!

would like advice on where I might be able to find a used carrier for the snare I just purchased. The only place I can seem to find on the web is musician's friend, but those are new, and pricey.
Any idea where a used one might be found?
Thanks in advance!
edit...silly me just saw the marketplace forum...I'll check there, but any other advice would be very much appreciated!

Gulf Coast Sound, Houston's all-age drum and bugle corps still has openings in its drumline. The corps is still looking for tenor and bass drummer to fill out the line. The next camp is March 3, 2006 and the corps would love to see you there!
For more information about the corps, go to http://www.gulfcoastsound.org/faq.html or contact the me at percussion-sl@gulfcoastsound.org

Good to see you guys back in the game! Maybe we'll see you at the DCA South Championships.

In the '80s he had a stick that was maple-rosewood laminate I believe, very fat, very short. Very heavy, and if you busted them, nobody messed with you the rest of the season!
Is that the one you mean?
No, those are the Vic Firth Delucia's. Dennis recently moved to Promark and designed a stick that looks like the old rope drum sticks. They have a tear-drop shaped bead and the taper of the stick shaft gets larger toward the butt of the stick. I personally like the way the taper feels in my hands. The drumline I play with might use them this coming season if everyone else likes them.
-
I agree totally with Slow Adam. It would probably be better to use untaped sticks for I & E.

Glad that the Stars have finally arrived. Look forward to seeing you all and hearing the show tunes in Austin.

Jazzycat,
I noticed that you are in Houston, so am I. I march with Gulf Coast Sound in Houston. You should come and check us out if you have time. You might catch us on television in the HEB Thanksgiving Parade this Thursday.
By the way, nice job! I've got an old Yamaha that I might go ahead a refinish now that I know I have you in town to coach me.
Check out the corps website at http://gulfcoastsound.org. Even if you can't march with us, you might want to march in the Galveston Mardi Gras Parade as part of the All Star Drums Corps we host every year.

What's Up! It's Ronnie with Gulf Coast Sound. This is my second go-round on the snare drum. I played back in high school and college in the '70s and early '80s. I started playing again back in 2002 and have marched with GCS since 2004. I turn 49 next week.
