Maybe I don't know as much as I thought I did. I thought Don might still be using the STB name. And thanks for the kind words Rick ^_^
-
Steel town Brass does exist.
And Rick, you should put on your site and your newsletters and everything that this corps is not Bandettes and is not affiliated with the Bandettes organization at all.

Hmm, refresh my memory oh godlyonewhoknowswhoiambutdon'tknowwhoyouare person!!
I am that American from Detroit that came to like the last camp of HYPE, played Bass.
-
Gaelen, glad to see you are going to be DM.
Had the chance to play with you for a HYPE camp, you're a good guy and Blue Saints is lucky to have you. Good Luck Blue Saints!! God Canadian Drum Corps!!!

Those are awesome. Anyway you could make a Bandette one and a Dutch Boy one?

After watching both of this guys videos on Marion. I have to agree that the videos them self, suck. (IMO) I think some high school video crews could do better. The second video is better than the first, but not by much. I really don't want to bash him too much though, because at least he's talking about Marion Cadets. At least he's trying to find out what is going on, which is more then most people.

Because I'm young and don't know any corps in Ohio that accept 13-14 year olds.
I know people that started marching competitively when they were 12yrs old. There is no reason why you can't when your 14, send me a message I know a corps you can join.

I found Drum Corps, Bandettes and HYPE because of DCP. The way it worked with me is that I posted something and people replied saying I should check out "such and such" corps.
-
I'm actually shocked that the kid got that far down the line. I don't think he should have been tripped like that, but he won't be doing anything like that again.

Steel Town Brass(co-ed Bandettes) have been a parade corps from 2005 to 2007. STB is currently on hold until September 2008, there is still a corps and the kids in Sault Ste Marie are still holding practices once a month. Steel Town Brass is trying to get back on the field and have been recruiting like mad. They want to see the field as badly as fans want to see the Bandettes organization back on the field.

I was actually looking forward to seeing Fever this summer. This sucks; hopefully they can do fundraising/parades through out the summer and next year and get some of that debt paid off and come back strong next year. Too many corps are folding, someone needs to do something, even if it’s just hold their own fundraisers and donate the money to a corps so they can get back out on the field. But like stated before, in Canada it's not so much the lack of money that is holding corps back, it’s the lack of members.

I have no idea what the financial status of the corps is, but doesn't DCI offer an exhibition status? I mean, some exposure would be better then nothing regardless of numbers. Or is there a minimum number to be exhibition also? Just a thought.
I have no idea about any of that, but I can mention it to Mary or a member of our staff and I'm sure they will look into it.

Hopefully, you'll reconsider one of the other Ontario corps or another fairly close to you.....We have billetted families ready to take in our out-of-towners as last year we had members from Calgary, Alberta as well as Japan. Give us a call, we'd love for you to join us!!!! HYPE will be attending the DCI Championships in Indianapolis in August.
I would actually love to march HYPE, I kinda got to the HYPE director at a parade last year, and he seemed like a cool guy. The only thing is the distance for camps. I'll message you privately, I have a few questions about the corps.
-
I thought all-age was on the table for a while, or was that just for the time you were doing parades and re-forming?
Either way - good luck!
The parade corps was all-age, but only because we were only do parades and they don't have age limits. The corps itself has not gone all age (hope that makes sense).
-
Was Steel Town looking to be DCI or all-age?
DCI - Open class.
-
- Don't give up!
thank you, I now need to decide if I'm going to march anywhere this summer. Everyone else is expensive compared to STB.

From the Steel Town Brass website:
Due to a lack of membership, Steel Town Brass is on hold until September.I thought I should let you all know.
-
It doesn't appear from their websites that any of these are fielding a corps for competition in open class.

I couldn't do tour with out my cell phone. Actually I didn't get a cell till my 3rd year of corps. Before that my mom was lucky to hear from me like twice on tour. But I need my cell phone, its my clock and my alarm. I don't call people though. the only reason my mom has heard more from me the last 2 years is cuz now she can call me (doesn't mean I call her back quickly though). plus I like to have it in case our buses/cars get separated or something happens, cuz the parents know I have my cell and they are always asking to borrow it.

(Sorry double posted)

Steel Town Brass is having its first camp the weekend of Dec 7th. I'll be there.
As far as age, I've marched with people in Bandettes that started in the Bandette's feeder corps when they were about 6yrs old.

Off the top of my head:
7th Regiment, Targets, and Spirit of New Jersey are left on G bugles.
You can add Steel Town Brass to the list of corps that still play Gs.

Mary Wilson (Bandettes/Steel Town Brass). Mary founded the Bandettes 45 years ago, and is still Executive Director of the corps.

I still cannot believe this. Thank you for taking me in in 2008 and allowing me to age-out as a Dutch Boy. I loved it, and Dutch Boy will always have a place in my heart. I wish Dutch all the best and if there is anything I can do, please contact me. Once Dutch, Always Dutch
