I watched BK last night and was trying to hear what the vocals were saying?
Anyone know what was said during the vocal section?
It's the lyrics to This Bitter Earth.

I like the show. I don't "get it" at all - I have no idea how any of this ties together or how the theme e=mc2 even applies. And the fact the narrator has to shout at the end of the ballad to be heard over the hornline makes me :sad:/> . But I do like the show.
Mike
I'm glad they made the narration more dramatic. That ballad did feel out of place until after I talked with a friend of mine; he saw it as a demonstration of the right side of the brain. It makes perfect sense since the previous segment is very much a left brain production. I'm seeing the show to be more about consciousness and the human mind than e=mc^2, or space/physics.
It should be fun to see how they fare against BD.

Completely agree on Spartacus (whoever's going crazy with the "-1" button can include me too).
I heard Blue Devils 2002 went through a massive overhaul. Did anyone see them early that year?
Yeah they did. So did Cadets in 2001, early season and finals were two very different shows.

The news had a good bit of Goodbye Blue Sky on it. I really liked how it's intertwined with The Sound of Silence

Just saw the video on YouTube - there is some amazing stuff going on over there!
I know people have been talking about the narration during the ballad and whether it's a good idea or not. I'm curious - does anyone know what the idea behind the narration is? I really like what I saw of the show in the video, but I can't quite figure out in that part of the show what a love story has to do with E = mc squared. This is in NO way a rip on the corps or show. As I said above, I really like what I see so far - it's more out of curiosity.
Any thoughts?
I noticed that too, besides playing EotB, there's nothing jumping out at me regarding the equation/physics/science. Perhaps it has to do with the forms? While I'm glad they're using a lot of EotB, I'm disappointed that they are using so little of Dark Side of the Moon. In any case I'm sure half the show will change by August.

Time to drop a hint! Somebody, who is getting new uniforms this season, is changing so drastically that without them being announced, you wouldn't know which corps it was on the field. :ph34r:/>
If you wanted to see Mandarins new unis, just look for pics of their last set from their 2012 show at Semis. Or from Mandarins own site:

Glassmen are currently taking efforts to get back on good financial ground. They just recently held an auction which, according to their alumni twitter account GlassTales, raised around $5000.

Still say it should have been " The Right of Swing "
HA!

I randomly found The Garden of Cosmic Speculation while listening to Pandora. I think it would be interesting to see something like this on a field despite it being an esoteric piece of contemporary classical music. I found a Youtube video of one of the movements: The Willow Twist.
Apparently Michael Gandolfi, the composer also arranged The Willow Twist for band as part of his Cosmic Garden Diptich.

FYI the autographed Eric Whitacre album should garner some attention.

Auction just launched and its over in a week? :doh:/>
Isn't that how auctions work? Can't just sit around for a month. Consider it a good reason to get in on the action now.

Check out Peter Gabriel's New Blood album. Some great source material there.

Bernstein's Mass (Cadets 83)
Symphonie Fantastique (PR 85)
Any show with John Rutter's music, but particularly Magnificat (Colts 96).

Only if BAC is 51. Otherwise, no.
BAC is 73yo, but to be fair, I've only heard the moniker "the Red Team" used for the Colts.

Thanks Brian!
Here's to the future!

I wouldn't say that the season was weird, but I will say that hundreds of great performers weren't allowed to shine due to bad design.

Wow that is a fantastic slot for them to be in!

PLEASE FOLLOW MADISON SCOUTS WITH THIS IDEA
This is probably the coolest shirt Ive ever bought at a show and if other corps made uniform shirts i bet theyd fly out the trailer. Cost-$25 worth it
I agree!
If Glassmen ever sold a version of the DM's shorts which mimic the current pants with triangles, I would just throw my money at them.
On another note, I think Jersey Surf's thunder sticks marketing idea is beyond brilliant!

Hey Chuck, I have a question for you: When corps use samples of songs/movies in their show, do they have to still secure rights to those clips?
I'm digging the Sting audio before Earth Song!

I think this year is shaping up to be more like 2009, crazy talented performers, but the shows...
It's still early, so there is time, but I don't know if some of these shows have what they need to peak at Finals week rather than midseason.

After watching it online several times, I take it as a musical representation of the mind. There are parts that represent stream of consciousness, the analytical side of the brain, the emotional side of the brain, the profundity of thought, and elation of discovery.
