  1. I have a question for anyone who has experience competing in the brass ensemble catagory,...................do you have to obtain rights to arrange and perform musical selections?

In any case,..........Follow up question to DCA I&E,......................why, or why not?

When it comes to the Brass Ensemble competition DCA doesn't follow or enforce the current rules.

  2. Make sure you start with a mouthpiece that sounds good in all registers. The cup should be large enough to accommodate easy lip buzzing after your lips fill with blood. (after a few minutes of playing)

Most Important (90% AIR 10% LIP)

    Good Luck!

  3. Thanks for starting this appropriate thread, Keith!!!

I can't wait. My party...uh, DCA schedule begins with the drive, leaving Buckeye Country with Hairbear, then picking up Sandy McNeal 'n Erin August, both of Steel City and more, in Pittsburgh. I'll need lotsa sharpened quill pens and recorder batteries to keep up with all the TALL TALES during that ride. Then, it's Sleepless in Rachacha...Hmmm, methinks I just titled my post-DCA column.

Cya there. Stop and say "Howdy!" at the Clarion (Bennigan's promises they won't run out of sasparilla this year), Sop/Mello/Frenchie I&E Venue, Minicorps, Alumni Spectacular, Prelims 'n Finals! I'll be the one in perfectly matched roundish lenses.

    Cozy,

Ok, there's good news and bad news, bad first: Bennigan's is no more!

good news: It's now called The Main Street Bar and Grill

Also, the brass ensemble competition looks to be the best ever. Think about catching some of it. See you there at 7:45.

  5. Somehow active every year, since 1955, in the marching activity (performer, rifle, bugle, trumpet, french horn, drum major, staff, instructor, arranger, judge, junior, senior, alumni, independent, parades, on the field, in the pit, on the stage, UDC, AL, VFW, DCA, DCI, DCE, DCM, RCA, ICA).

I hope to continue another 20 years.

    It certainly flew by!

  6. Not a full review, just some quick comments: Sky Alumni, Rebels, Reilly and Archie all put on great shows. Blessed Sacrament, Lambertville and Crossmen Xtreme were also very entertaining. The Hitmen stole the show a bit with their impromptu interludes as corps were setting up backstage. A lot of humor, but solid playing all around from nine talented horns.

There was a little bit of something for everyone, but Sky's big, clean sound and Rebels' total show were the two most pleasing from my vantage point. Solos were all pretty much outstanding for Sky and Robbie Ellis played a sweet couple of solos for the Rebels.

In all, a very enjoyable show.

    John,

Thank you for the kind words.

    Shamrock Festival Committee,

The Hit Men Brass Band would like to publicly thank the Reilly Raiders ( Carol, Frank, Tony and Al, to name a few) for giving us the opportunity and artistic freedom to entertain your wonderful audience (supporters) at the Shamrock Festival Concert this year.

We also appreciated the extra effort, you put forth, that made our trip so special. You folks took care of it all, and then some.

    Thank you all.

Appreciation is also due to Lambertville for their willingness to share. We owe you one, just ask! THANKS

The Hit Men look forward to the next time our paths cross this Labor Day Weekend!

    Musically Yours,

    David Martin, Director

  7. congrats to Dave Negri....this is the first I've heard of this, which is weird, considering he's been one of my instructors for years now with CT Alumni, CT Hurricanes, etc.... hopefully I'll be able to see him to congratulate him in person.

    James,

Dr. Ostrander is the best teacher I ever had. Tell the Doctor, David Martin student of Herbert Mueller, I.C. class of '78 sends his best. If you go to Barnum, find me and say 'hi".

    Keep playing James.
