  1. Our next meeting/practice is the 29th of July in Olathe, KS at the Olathe Wesleyan Church.

The map for directions is on our homestead site which is in my signature.

This will be our first practice with percussion equipment. :ninja:

All sections consisting of Brass, Percussion and Color Guard will be at this practice.

    Thanks,

    Jeff,

    Prairie Sound!

Good luck with the drum line, Jeff!

You've got some great drums there. I hope to hear them here in Denver sometime.

    See you in Wichita!

  2. Wow, so many new names. Are these all going to evolve into field corps, or are there "minicorps" among them. We have just one new Sr. start up here in the Northwest, and it's going to remain off the field for the forseable future.

In any case the all age/Sr. scene is spreading. I wonder if these groups will ever outnumber the Jr's?

    Steve

    Hey Steve!

Yeah, a lot of new start up's, huh? It seems to be spreading quicker than I even hoped for!

I can only speak for myself when I say that I'd like to do a mini-corps in the next couple of years.

    However, that's only my opinion.

We'll have to wait and see how successful our recruiting efforts are first.

With the way things are going for the Junior's these days, who knows? Perhaps even the Senior/All Age mini-corps will out number the Junior's!

Are you still looking for baritone players?

Sorry I haven't gotten a hold of Brian Fox the baritone player from the Sentinels for you yet but, I will.

  3. Oh it's coming. Days of 18+ hour bus rides for competition, are coming to an end.

This will also help corps grow slowly and attend championships when they are ready :)

Sounds good! I think we share some of the same feelings on this issue.

Crosswinds and Masquerade are forming, Austin Stars and World Gone Mad are slightly ahead, Prairie Sound and High Country Brass are rehearsing, and Gulf Coast Sound and Frontier are out there marching...

Whoops......... Didn't mean to short change anyone here. Congratulations to Crosswinds, Masquerade and World Gone Mad for getting something strated. That's terrific! More Drum Corps!

    the future looks VERY bright

and next year, there will be a DCA-C/DCA-S Weekend of shows in TX. Gulf Coast Sound has already opened the doors with Brass on the Bayou, and Brass Hysteria 2007 will still be a festival show, but will also be a DCA sanctioned contest

Excellent! We'll be recruiting and rehearsing our posteriors off so perhaps we'll see you there.

  4. So glad to hear stuff from you guys!

Hope you will be headed to TX for some fun DCA competition in the new future.

And I hope you guys got the invitation to bring your brass ensemble or such down to Brass Hysteria :)

    Chris,

Hello there! Long time no hear.

Yes, it's nice to be back in the loop again!

I would love to come down there for a show with Frontier, Gulf Coast Sound, Austin Stars and Jackson Generals. If it could be held in Dallas that would sure work well as a centralized location for all.

Also, Jeff Dancinger is back from Iraq and working harder than ever to get Prairie Sound in Kansas City up and running too.

    Great news, huh?

We might just get this Central/Southern circuit thing rolling here after all.

    Thanks for the post!

  5. High Country Brass, a Senior/All Age Drum and Bugle Corps based in Denver, Colorado is currently recruiting for new members.

We are recruiting members age 17 or older for all three areas of the corps: Horns, Drums and Color Guard.

Previous musical and/or marching experience is not necessary. We will train you.

Yearly dues are very reasonable and the musical instruments and color guard equipment are provided by the High Country Brass organization.

If you're interested and would like further information please go to:

    Thank you,

    High Country Brass

I agree with Lisa about trying to pull something off on a 3 day weekend,

    (snip)

Pat, you might want to reread Lisa's post. Lisa said:

Well it wouldn't HAVE to be on a 3 day weekend. . . CV makes lots of trips north with a 20+ hour bus ride. . . A plane ride wouldn't take as much time :)

    (snip)

    It was I who said:

    (snip)

However, for it to happen at all I think it will take scheduling a show where all three California corps would be present first off. Additionally, it would have to take place over a three day weekend like the Fourth of July in order to allow for additional travel time. Much like DCA Finals over Labor Day weekend.

    Rice

    Just clarifying! :P

  7. Well it wouldn't HAVE to be on a 3 day weekend. . . CV makes lots of trips north with a 20+ hour bus ride. . . A plane ride wouldn't take as much time :)

    (snip)

That's right. I agree. And I can see the CorpsVets doing exactly that to "make it happen" and help expand DCA. Then again, that's the CorpsVets. They're proven travelers.

However, I don't see the east coast corps that practically had to have their arms twisted to get them to go to the Winston-Salem show last year and especially those who didn't go at all suddenly hoping on airplanes to get to a show on the west coast. It would be nice if they did but, I don't see that happening for at least ten years or so. Probably not in my lifetime would be more accurate.

In my opinion the west coast corps would be much better off trying to lure the Midwestern and Southern area corps out to California. They already know they're going to have to travel to get to shows and have budgeted accordingly. If an official offer were to be extended to them I'm sure they would accept.

    Example:

Let's say you are a member of a corps in the Midwest or South and you have an option of going to the San Francisco\Los Angeles areas for your yearly tour or going to the Rochester\Scranton areas.

The two Western destinations are great spots for a mini-vacation on the ocean and offer great sight-seeing. The two Eastern destinations are towns you probably would have no interest in going to at all if it weren't for the fact that the show was being held there.

Now, which one do you think you'd be most likely to choose?

It's simple. Build it and they will come.

    Rice

  8. MBI or Frontier most probably.

Neither corps is from the east coast and is a factor which I think makes them the most likely candidates.

I think MBI is a good bet if it were to happen as early as next year.

    Beyond that, it's Frontier.

However, for it to happen at all I think it will take scheduling a show where all three California corps would be present first off. Additionally, it would have to take place over a three day weekend like the Fourth of July in order to allow for additional travel time. Much like DCA Finals over Labor Day weekend.

I voted for Frontier. They'll be busy trying to help build a DCA southern circuit for the next couple of years though, so who knows?

Now, if you really want to talk "true east coast corps" and which one of them will be the first to travel to California, well......................... fuhgetaboutit! :worthy:

  9. Mr./Ms. Rice: Thanks for your kind rebuttal. If "naive" is the worst I am being called, I'll rest well in just a li'l bit.

Five Star Brass claims it's by postmark. You've brought up a good point. Is it "by postmark," (which includes time of day IF one can read it)? What does FSB do when they can't read all the postmark? When there is no postmark? (That does happen.) OR is it really "first-come, first-served"? which would be a headstart plus for our NE brethren. I don't know the particulars on this, but there's no geographical/postal conspiracy.

Naive? I've shared a couple of PMs with other posters here. I decline to keep sending PMs.

Hmm, there's no conspiracy. I agree that those folks who live closer to FSB will likely get their tic applications first. I have no solution for this mailing system.

I don't know. Maybe, Dorothy can click her heels and provide DCA some buck$ for such a system. Soaring Sounds 27, a hugely successful sellout DCI contest, still mails me my ticket app. If a local contest has a puter wiz volunteer, I say, by all means, www it!

...Heck, even DCI is considering 10 years in Indy. (I have a sense of humor about all this -- Just click my blog site below.)

Speaking of Jeff -- He's lucky enough to live a stone's throw from the ticket source. He "lucked out." I don't think he's part of any conspiracy other than to keep all of us straight here on DCP.

OK, you tell me the "rest of the story," but have who-what-when-where-why-how facts in line when you do. I'll be the first to root you on.

Fact: One person I know requested a huge block of tickets on that first day. My brother and I used to buy 50 tickets every year for the U.S. Open in Marion. Believe me, I was not popular with other fan$, but that's free enterprise.

Thanks again for your well-opined diatribe. Your politeness is duly appreciated. Right now, I think I can sleep...well, then woodshed...hopefully, well.

"Mr./Ms. Rice: Thanks for your kind rebuttal. If "naive" is the worst I am being called, I'll rest well in just a li'l bit."

Heh. :) Sorry if my use of the word Naive upset you, Cozy. I really didn't mean to do so. If I did, I apologize.

I shouldn't have directed my response directly to you.

Instead, I should have indicated that I see many people on this forum as being all too accepting of whatever DCA decides to through down. Myself included sometimes.

I guess it's my fault that I tend to believe a group of people when they say, "We are serious about expansion." I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt and believe them. Until their actions prove otherwise.

"Five Star Brass claims it's by postmark. You've brought up a good point. Is it "by postmark," (snip) OR is it really "first-come, first-served"? which would be a headstart plus for our NE brethren."

    Exactly my point.

"Naive? I've shared a couple of PMs with other posters here. I decline to keep sending PMs."

Again, sorry that I directed "Naive" at you personally.

No. No need to PM each other. I agree. What we have to say to each other should be able to be posted publicly.

"I agree that those folks who live closer to FSB will likely get their tic applications first. I have no solution for this mailing system."

The only answer I can see is online ticket purchasing. I'm open to any other fair and equitable answers though if anyone has any suggestions.

"...Heck, even DCI is considering 10 years in Indy. (I have a sense of humor about all this -- Just click my blog site below.)"

That's good to hear. I'll check it out. Thanks.

"Speaking of Jeff -- He's lucky enough to live a stone's throw from the ticket source. He "lucked out."

Well, that's good for Jeff at least........................

"OK, you tell me the "rest of the story," but have who-what-when-where-why-how facts in line when you do. I'll be the first to root you on."

I'll see what I can put together as far as a chronological order of events is concerned.

"Fact: One person I know requested a huge block of tickets on that first day. My brother and I used to buy 50 tickets every year for the U.S. Open in Marion. Believe me, I was not popular with other fan$, but that's free enterprise."

Fair enough. If that's what's causing the ticketing problem I fully understand.

"Thanks again for your well-opined diatribe. Your politeness is duly appreciated. Right now, I think I can sleep...well, then woodshed...hopefully, well."

Again, sorry my message was misdirected. I meant no disrespect to you as an individual or your opinions on these issues.

  10. (snip)

    ok Rice, so i mailed mine in...and i am 5 miles away...on day 1 in 04.

    my seats sucked.

    (snip)

What can I say, Jeff. You got screwed. Sorry to hear it.

But doesn't your comment above provide back up to my post that people purchasing tickets should have a method available to them for choosing their own seats?

    Rice
