  1. haven't heard any world class corps do Mozart...does Mozart not translate well to the drum corps world? Symphony 40 or Eine Klein Nachtmusik? Beethoven's 5th? I know these 3 are pretty much the cliche pieces of these 2 composers, but it's still some pretty dang good music...

ooo...how about "The Ride of the Valkyries" by...uh...that Wagner? that would be some good horn luvin' right there...

If PR were to play Mozart, The Marriage of Figaro would interesting musically and visually. As for Wagner, I don't see them doing it next year.

Here's something for thought. Why don't they play New World Symphony in 2009?

  2. The judging system in DC is subjective. It's unfortunate that it's that way. Very few judging systems are totally objective and based merely on facts or data. If we, as fans, feel the system is flawed, then we should do what we can to see the system is improved. The issue is that there will never be a truly perfect system and you will not be able to please everyone.

  3. I noticed that SCV made it official that Rick is resigning as director effective 10/31/05. I must admit that it didn't surprise me to see this. The board of directors has high expectations. In some ways, we got spoiled by all the success we had while Dr. Royer was our director. I was just wondering how people in the community feel about this and if anyone has any speculation on who might succeed Rick as the new director.

  4. As someone who attends finals every year, I can say that the days of the old full retreats are gone. I remember the first time I saw a show and the traditional retreat had been replaced by what they do now. I felt like a great tradition had been tossed aside. I have to agree that taking into consideration the amount of time it takes to clear the field for the champion to to their encore takes longer than it did under the old format. I wish DCI would listen to the fans and bring back full retreat.

  5. People are entitled to their opinions. You should be careful about making blanket statements when it comes to anything. To say that people hate the Cadets because they are successful is ridiculous. If that's the case, then people should hate BD even more since they have more championships than any other corps. The Cavies have been the most successful corp in recent history. Maybe people should hate them for being so successful since 2000. I don't believe that people hate the Cadets. I believe that people are not happy with George Hopkins. It's obvious by the threads here on DCP. I know for a fact that the Cadets have a very large fan following. So, to answer your question, people don't hate the Cadets even if that seems to be your perception.
