It started in 92 in front of the Normal, IL stadium.
Wow. You have a better memory than I do - and you weren't even there! :P
But now that you mention it, I do recall it being in Normal.
-
Try again, it is BLUECOATS all one word.
Actually it's only "BLUECOATS" if you are screaming it.
Otherwise it's just "Bluecoats". :P
-
In Bluecoats, a silver plated penny minted in the current year and hung on a
blue shoestring is given to members at the end of each season. I was in the
corps when the tradition started in 92, but I never heard who's idea it was.
Anyone of you fellow Bluecoats vets know?
-
In all seriousness, the OP nailed two of them. Cross to Cross and the Flying (Death) Wedge. My third would be SCV's collapsing Y in '99. HM only because I couldn't think of a way to state it in 3 words or less! B)
The SCV collapsing Y was almost my 3rd pick. I didn't know how to describe it anyway. :)
Regiment gets a runner-up spot with the drum wedge forcing a hornline scatter in their '03 show.Oohhh - good one. I forgot about that. That was a sweet move.

Name 3 of your all-time favorite drill moves.
Me first (in no particular order):
1. Cross - to - cross, Star 91
2. Horn line crab and 360 turn, Phantom 93
3. SCV spelling SCV on the field for the Carmen show in 90
(or anytime SCV spells SCV on the field for that matter)

92 Bluecoats---Nuff Said !
I gotta agree with that one. I was lucky enough to have marched with all of those beautiful ladies. :)
-
96 PR (let's lump the drum majors into that mix as well)
-
So I was gonna wear my shiny, blue, patch laden, poly-blend-o-something, 92/93 Bluecoats member jacket to finals in Madison.
Am I a giant nerd? (for that reason - not all the other reasons)
-
A former marching member of the late 80's Bluecoats has passed along his member jacket for my daughter to carry along on the caravan and connexus tours, a gesture that means alot to both of them. A reminder of those that have been there before, and the effort that has made her experience possible. By the sounds of things here might be something for others to consider doing. The retro style is all the rage.
That is so cool.

I saw Crown in Monroe, LA last week and they seemed to me the best they've ever been
and they have a great, entertaining show (just downloaded their APD, last night).
During "retreat" (or that shamefull excuse for what is now called retreat) when the scores
were announced, the crowd was obviously surprised by their loss to Boston (no offense to
Boston).
I was also surprised, but thinking about it on the drive home, I came to the conclusion
that since I'm clueless about percussion, it was probably their percussion scores that did
them in. I checked out the recaps when I got home and sure enough that's what it was.
I hope they can clean it up by finals because they have alot of talent and a great show this
year.
For the record, I liked their 1995 and 1996 shows the best. This year may win out though.

I beg to differ. If Bloo's guard had received the 18.10 they got four days ago, I believe they would have been in 3rd. My daughter says they had a fantastic show, but suddenly the guard is in 8th place?!? What's up with that?
I find this very strange also. Biases aside I *might* not think this is too weird if they had a really off night. But saying
that they had a fantastic show and *still* getting the lowest score they've gotten since Indy seems really odd to me.

DCI Finals Night:
1. Phantom Regiment
2. Bluecoats
.... etc, etc.... :)
-
Easy to sound that great when your book isn't hard and your drill is easy. Not knocking the corps, they sound great, no doubt. Just wondering if the demand is there cause I certainly don't see nor hear it.
Aaaarrrnt, eeerrrmmmt!!!!!!
Perhaps you didn't read the topic title.
You are now banned from this thread.

Bluecoats Brass must be smokin, beat BD last night, topped PR tonight
They ARE smokin!
I saw them at Tupelo (where they topped BD) and in Monroe and they had an even better
brass performance tonight in Monroe in my opinion.
-
I am hoping that Bluecoats are purposely holding back on horn dynamics until late season. During the ensemble rehearsal that I attended last week, I heard a lot of "don't play this any louder than you need to."
As I understand it, this is the case.
-
I thought it was my Bluecoats bias kicking in when watching BD perform last night
and thinking that Bluecoats had sounded just as good.
Apparently my bias was not deceiving me. Good for Coats!
-
Coats beat BD in brass by 1/10th.
Saweet!
I thought it was my bias that I thought Coat's brass sounded just as good BD's. Apparently my biased ears weren't deceiving me after all! :)

I'm only gonna be able to make finals night in Madison. Someone got a pair of
good tickets they need to unload? Looking for something in section:
D, E, F, EE, FF or GG.
Thanks,
Bart

...then was the '92 Beatles show (no offense coats alums. -- that was my first bloo experience, and I loved it)
So *you're* the one! :)
Just kidding. That show was a little too far out for everyone including the members so it's understandable that it's not exactly a fan favorite. But I've come to love that show and still enjoy listening to it.

We're trying to cure drum corps.
Actually - we're trying to spread it.
-
Kamarag, I'm bummed about the whole HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray thing. Sounds like the next VHS vs. Betamax fiasco (man, I just showed my age!). I'll be glad when one of them shakes out as the winner and we get some good content.
I'm pretty sure Blu-Ray will win. It's a better technology (more capacity), but the biggest thing is that Sony's Playstation 3 will use Blu-Ray. That's what will kill off HD-DVD in my opinion.
-
you also have to consider in the target audience. what percentage of tv viewers are on HD.. and how many of those even know what drum corps is? now of those who do, how many people will be watching it?
But you might grow an audience by getting people who just want to watch stuff in HD like some other posters above have said. Some people will watch and HD program just because it's HD - despite the content.
That being said - it sounds like it's prohibitively expensive to do right now, and the potential gain in audience is too small to justify the cost.
-
I can dream can't I? :)Wishful thinking, Bart!
I agree that they have a tough road ahead. And it looks based on scores that their chances of moving any higher than 4th is pretty slim. But anything can happen - including peaking too early and getting passed by corps that are still getting cleaned up and have momentum later in the season and going into finals week. That being said, Canton has had a surge during finals week the past few years. So anything can happen. It's definitely making for an interesting season.I think Blue has a hard road ahead of them...the only people left to beat are the ones with all the rings! That said, I'm pulling for Bloo. I think if anyone can do it at this point, it's them. -
Personally, I think it would be an awesome end to the season if Finals night:
1. Phantom Regiment
2. Bluecoats
...and who cares about the rest!
