  1. I'm no big Cadets fan, but I think they're solidly in the top 5 based on brass and drums alone. Their statue thing has potential, and it's not necessarily a bad thing that they haven't come out that "smoking" so far score-wise compared to some other corps. Their musical choices are fantastic, let's see where the visual/story goes.

Just observations from video, I'll hear/see the comparison with the Bluecoats on Tuesday at Gateway.

  2. In 2016 the fans on DCP will prove that the Blue Devils have not deserved even one championship they have received in the last two decades. The combination of no drill, no music, no marching, bad judging panels, non-averaged finals week scores, being exposed to more full judging panels, underage marchers, too many marchers and UFO assistance will all be proved absolutely true.

In a related rumor, the fans dancing with glee at the removal of said BD championships will kill each other fighting over who SHOULD have won in all of those years.

  3. Got back today, what an incredible show to see live! There were very few duds that I saw, even in quarters.

BD, you had your best show of the year (That I saw live/on vids) on Saturday night. A come-from-behind win for the Blue Crew was something different than the MO for the last decade and a half.

A well deserved championship, and I would've been happy if Crown had won as well... or even the Bluecoats, who almost caught Crown at the end.

Congrats on #17 guys and gals.

  4. RANT TIME!

I'm definitely not the first one to defend BD. However, comments this year are really pissing me off. I have differing levels enjoyment for the top 4, but I have the equal amount of respect for each of them.

I didn't like this show til seeing it in its final form at Prelims, but I still had a massive amount of respect for it. People who are saying this show doesn't have as much or any difficulty compared to their peers are full of complete ####. I watched it on the high cam after watching it only in multi all year expecting 8:00+ minutes of scatters and body movement. Is there a lot? Yes. That's just part of their visual style nowadays. But it's not NEARLY as much as 2009 - 2013. The last minute or so is FLYING. Cadets aren't the only one with a hard show this year. I don't understand where people are coming from. Crown has a TON of body movement this year and more scatter than usual. I don't say that as a bad thing, I think the way they do it is just as effective as BD, but you don't hear everyone crying about them when they do it. Bluecoats have some too.

I guess some people are just blinded by their affiliation and enjoyment of their favorite corps and can't fathom how BD does so well. They have A LOT of difficulty musically and visually, maybe not in the conventional 1980s and 1990s marching really fast at 226bpm fashion (no offense Cadets), but I finally see the ensemble, simultaneous responsibility, and staging INSANITY people are talking about. I don't think it's lined up completely this year, doesn't seem as polished as say 2014, 2010, ect, but for how hard what they are doing is, it's pretty #### good. You don't have to have the hardest show to win, it needs to be smart, and that's what Blue Devils have found a PERFECT balance of these days. The shows are insanely hard, but they don't cross the line of being uncleanable, which some corps do.

Sincerely, a Bluecoats fan, and someone who usually wants someone else to win. If they win tonight, I'm totally behind it. Just like I'd be behind anyone. There's no conspiracy going on. First Blue Devils show I can say that I really enjoy.

Very few will dwell on the numbers a week from now, we'll all be looking towards next year. The ones that complain for the next three months are the ones to avoid.

  5. Y'know what always disappoints me? All of BD's recent show themes are about the arts: Fellini, Dada, Bacharach, Rite of Spring, this year -- and wasn't Constantly Risking Absurdity based on a beat poem?

All of that stuff is well-known, worth knowing, and canonical. And BD works hard to bring the essence of the source material onto the football field in a creative way.

And yet, as fans of the arts (supposedly), many of us call their shows "weird" or "out there", or say that it isn't drum corps because it's too esoteric. I like the wide range of creative ideas we see on the field each year. It just sort of bums me out when shows about THE ARTS get so much pushback in an ARTS competition. If we can't appreciate this kinda stuff, how can we expect it of anyone else?

For some, the content is irrelevant - and the scores mean everything. Fans have the right to leave when they want to, but I think many are missing out on some great stuff. This post applies to all corps of course, not just BD.

"If my team loses to crap like that, I can't stand it". You see lots of stuff like that on DCP.

  6. I would hope they would give you a chance. How crappy would that be that people would treat you bad just because you liked a different corps? That just doesn't make sense to me.

Through the years I've had that happen to me in Allentown, so it's not unheard of. This is ancient history though, in the 80s and 90s.

  7. I'm sure that most of the members of this site view DCI finals day as a holiday of sorts. I have thought of it that way since around 1982, and through many life changes DCI finals has remained a constant. The corps and rules have changed somewhat, but it's still a party of sorts. This will be the first time I've attended finals since 1995, and I was shocked at the quality of the corps in quarters and semis in Indy. I'm not a fan of the dome, but at least it's air conditioned

I'm glad the activity is still around, even though I don't like some of the elements in the shows. There's a lot more that I like than dislike, and that's a win for me.

  8. I just don't see it happening for them tonight :/ Very worthy, but so is BD. No doubt that Czapinksi will call it like she sees it, but I think she will likely lean BD- could be wrong! Great season no matter what

I agree, and I don't think it would be a "travesty" either way.

    Good luck to both.
