  1. Speaks to the talent that's ahead of them. This might be one of the deepest years ever. 15th is like finishing in 10th. Just a great year to be a fan of this wonderful activity.

Agreed, there are many fantastic shows that will miss finals. That's always the case, but this year I think the number will be higher than usual.

  2. Who knows how far BK will rise, but their shows the last couple of years have definitely been fantastic. It's certainly possible that they could crack the top 5, but beating "bigger name" corps is always difficult. The longer they keep putting out stellar shows, the more judges will get comfortable with giving them numbers comparable to the top corps.

Fantastic job BK, hope you guys pick off a few more corps this year!

  3. Idk I just kind of question some people's ears on here. They're saying "nan niga joha niga joha niga joha neomu joha"

Which translates to "I like you, like you, like you, really like you"

As I said, I tend to tune it out when it happens. I understand why it's there, and I (briefly) looked at the vid before the season started. Not my cup of tea, and my original post was just making the point that it's an intro to a drum break and nothing more.

  4. I've listened to SO many recordings of this BD show as well as the original Kpop song and I'm yet to hear how it sounds anything like "let's get a donut"

To each their own, I tend to tune it out when I hear it. That description was some else's, I borrowed it. I view it as a rhythmic interlude druing an otherwise awesome musical program.

  5. I find amplified vocals in drum corps quite jarring and I suppose I always will. This is not a knock on the talent level of the singers at all - singing in a show just doesn't work for me at all, and my appreciation for a show is decreased as a result.

It's all opinion, after all. My opinion is that amplified voice mixes with brass and percussion like ketchup mixes with cheerios. It's surprising at first and gets more disgusting as you chew.

Placement will probably determine whether or not it continues.

To the OP - I agree that this many corps using singers came <sort of> out of nowhere, even though singing has been used in the past. I think the success of BK last year encouraged it, and I DID love last year's BK show... even though I hit mute several times because of it.

  6. I do understand that rooting for a "team" you were a part of in the past is only human nature. Some of the posters on this site take that rooting to all sorts of weird places, as if they have some impact on placements or deserve recognition if their (former) corps does well. Yikes.

Anyhoo, it's a bummer that so few top corps went to Drums Along the Rockies this year.

  7. This really is a shame, as I've always been more keen on the music aspect of drum corps. Hearing/having recordings of the progression that shows make through the summer is fantastic, and I have so many from the last decade or so (even much further back if your count Napster lol).

The other part that stinks about having no recordings during the season: sometimes corps change their shows for the worse. By "worse" I mean adding or deleting something to/from their show that makes it less enjoyable for me. That's purely a preference issue, but there are many performances of top corps that I like more early-season than late, even if the late edition is more polished.

    Bummer.

  8. We'll see if the 'Coats can really clean their drill. I think they have a program that could potentially win it all, but I've never seen a "squeaky clean" Bluecoats show. I really hope they can do it this year or sometime soon. Great ideas coming out of Canton

  9. I disagree that the TOS can't restrict such use. Making a contract not to do something that is otherwise legal is enforceable, so long as there is an exchange of consideration. (In this case, money in exchange for access to video streams.)

If DCI got its act together (LOL) and updated its terms of service, it would certainly be in its best interest to prohibit grabbing the streams, simply because DCI clearly doesn't hold the copyright licenses required to distribute archived performances of performances.

I can certainly see some lawyer for a publisher taking DCI to the cleaners because they didn't cover their ###. (Not to say that amending the TOS would actually make people stop -- it just wouldn't be DCI's problem anymore.)

In other words, we need far fewer lawyers. No surprise there.

Recording for one's own private use is a problem? Hm, why does almost every satellite/cable box come with a DVR function?
