dcpacheco
Take a look at DCI Atlanta caption spreads this past weekend. How likely is it that with 24 corps performing, their respective placements per caption were so darn close?? I mean how likely is it that drumlines and horn lines would score for the most part within 2-3 slots of each other?? Can't a corp have a great horn line, and mediocre drums or colorguard?? Now it seems that horns, drums and colorguard all place within a very narrow band. The widest spread seems to be in Phantom. Everyone else is pretty much the same. When did this change?? Is this scenario even likely??
Tez
This is where the "slotting" argument comes from. I believe there is only just a hint of truth to that, however. Judges judge corps by comparing them to the ones at a similar level. This probably has some effect on them being scored similar to other corps at their overall level.... but I really don't think it's as big an effect as most people think it is. I trust that the judges really try to hand out scores they think the corps really deserve.
