Velocity DCPI season 13 tour

Recommended Posts

Well congrats to the corps in doing well in their first performances as the founding members of velocity. their first show in Fremont, Cathey took 4th place out of 12 with a 69.695, and took the GE award with a 31.510, im very proud of them. Their first big show in Stanford, Ca they took 4th of 9 with 69.930, and last night they managed to take home a silver in Redding, Ca breaking 70 with a 70.49. its very exciting going from winning a dci championship to overseeing my very own corps. the staff and i are working really hard to make the tour fun for the kids and yet still productive. we will be doing a few changes to Ya Gotta Try tommorow in preparation for Ottumwa on the 13th, we look forward to it. come on out and enjoy a jazz show the way it should be done.

the corps program has been coming along great for it being just their first year.

Ottumwa, IA - The corps has been working on the new changes to Ya Gotta Try and it worked well for them, earning them their 2nd caption victory and moving up to a score of 72.18. they edged out Quiksilver by .06 with a 22.12 earning them the award for visual. the next stop is Monroe, WA

Monroe, WA - VICTORY AT LAST!!!! the corps won its first show ever with a score of 73.505 edging out the Velour Knights by 1.375 and also taking home the GE award with a 32.26, making it the corps highest score to date in GE, Vis, and score. words cant express how proud i am of these kids and what they do.

Vancouver, BC - The corps ended taking 4th of 10 with a 73.15, just a slight bump in the road but no matter, tomorrow is another day and another day brings new opportunities.

Juneau, AK - Unfortunately the corps score dropped down to 72.38 but still managed to nab second place and the vis. award with 21.89, it was a very tough transition going from the heat of the south texas sun only 5 minutes from mexico to the tundra known as alaska. we will be doing rewrites in the show to try and be fully prepared for the next show as well as working on endurance and P.T. next show in Sherbrooke, QUE. see ya'll there

Sherbrooke QUE - While the corps went up by a slim .05 they sadly dropped to 7th of 10. it was a big schock to us as it was the corps lowest placement so far, all we could do was pack up keep our heads up and move on forward.

Manchester NH - Once again we picked up our score. we scored 73.53 but it was another finish for us finishing in last place and by about 3 points. the kids were really let down by it, it wasn't their best show, and unfotunately we didn't get the scored we feel we deserved.

Kalamazoo MI - Sweepstakes event 2 - The kids were dissapointed from the previous competition and decided they were going to work hard for the next one which got them about a 2 point jump to 75.365 and put them 5th of 12 in the final scoring of the night

Aurora, CO - Without a doubt it was the biggest disaster of the year. on top of kids being sick with the flu and not being able to hurt which definitely hurt us. Even with another increase of over 2 points to 77.575 the corps dropped all the way to 10th place in the 12 corps competition. the kids had to hop on the bus that night quiet, teary eyed, and heartbroken.

Albuquerque NM - It was defintely a wake up call for the staff and corps, as we all had trouble sleeping due to the last performance. we were hellbent after that on being the best possible corps we could and doing everything we could to get better. The corps jumped up only to 77.9 but got back to the top spots where they knkow they belong. they took home a silver medal that night in the 9 corps contest AND took home the GE award that was a tie with california knights who had almost 2 points on them but still managed to keep up with them in that caption. im very proud of them and i know they will do much better in the following week with the changes that are to come. next stop Dallas then homeshow in Houston. Never give up Never surrender

Dallas TX (1/29)- The corps went out there and did there thing, which helped them jump up to a 78.41 and take 6th place out of 14. it was a good show, still lots to be worked on, but we will take care of it.

" " (1/30) - Velocity headed back out onto native turf and also back into the city of their previous competition. they bumped up their score to a 79.085 and snagged 4th of 7. were headed into the 80's, so watch out cuz here we come.

Houston TX - Houston was the Corps home show for their first season, but next season it will most likely be the one furthest south (closest to the corps home town). we weren't too happy with the placement (7th of 12) but we were defintely proud of the kids for bringing their score to a 79.505. New Orleans get ready for us!!!

New Orleans LA - well we weren't totally dissapointed or pleased, unfortunately we just didnt have the performance that we have had in rehearsals and we paid for it. our scored lowered a tiny bit to 79.3 and we took 8th of 12. tomorrow is another day, another town, another state...

Madison WI - This was another night that will go down in history as they broke 80 by jumping 2.625 scoring an 81.925. i was VERY proud of them also as they took 4th place of 16!!!!! it was a big win for them as they established them as a definite contender not only for finals but for a championship. slow and steady wins the race.

Miami FL - WOW!!! to say that im happy with my corps would be a mild understatement. NOT ONLY did they tie for the GE award with a 35.7 but they took home their first music award with a 24.59 edging out The PhilharCORPSmonic by .19, and taking a silver out of 8 corps. AND ON TOP OF THAT!!!!! they jumped a 82.495. well make sure the kids dont let it get to their heads, tomorrow is another day and anything can happen. they are also very excited for I&E. next stop Paris France

Paris FRA - this corps just never ceases to amaze me, once again we rose in score to an 84.95 and taking 2nd place out of 11. i never dreamed of having a group of kids so determined to work on the level of professionalism that they do, its all i could ever ask for.

Baltimore MD - Once again the score has not only rison but we have gone home with a few goodies :) taking 2nd place out of 14 corps is velocity!!!! it was a 3 way tie for GE with a 36.4... but we managed to snag the Music award for the night with a score of 25.380 over second place by .58, this brings the new score to an 85.53!!! on top of that.... we are tied for first in GE with 36.4 and are sitting in 4th place only .575 from first place!!!!!!!!

Berlin GE - we were feeling confident heading into Berlin for the competition and ready to go out and give it our all. so we went out and performed and with an 87 we went and took 4th palce out of 14 and took GE with a 36.95. the corps defintely was its eyes set on winning and taking home the GE award

Maui HI - after a long plane ride and plenty of well deserved rest we were back in the states ready to keep rolling into finals raising that score. the show was great and even though we got 4th out of 6, we raised our score to 87.03 and took home GE (36.880) and Music with 26.640. im very proud of them and all their hard work and were all excited and working hard knowing we are still a definite force to be reckoned with

Santa Barbara CA - one of my favorite cities in the country for its weather. perfect drum corps weather. well once again we sit in 4th place (im beginning to think it may be a curse or something) out of 8. but we managed to pick up the score once again to an 88.05 and take GE once again (37.6). next show in Vista

Vista CA - we placed 5th out of 9 and scored 88.74. we definitely weren't happy about being in 5th place but the fact that score went up and we once again took GE (the last oh i dont know 10 shows in a row weve taken GE have been ties) with 37.85. well off to AZ, big show tomorrow well need all the R&R (rest and rehearsal :lookaround: ) we can get

Tempe AZ - we arrived in the desert known as Arizona for the show and had a very productive rehearsal we made some changes to the show. we ate our dinner and headed out to the show. and in 3rd place with a score of 90.025!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! VELOCITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE BROKE 90!!!!!! another first in the corps history. not only have we broken 90 (something only 5) other corps have done we now sit in 6th place and have never been so close to standing on top of the poll. we our GE bumped to 38.15 which we also took the award for. i have never been more proud of my corps than today.

Joplin MI - we left AZ going confident into Joplin, by the recent scores we were slated to go in and take gold and 2 captions. unfortunately the worst always happens at the worst time. we have a bunch of the kids get food poisoning. we had to go into Joplin missing 8 kids. we were devasted when they announced us in 2nd place with an 88.76. we dropped almost 2 points. taking GE with 37.9 didn't help too much. all we could do is get back on the bus and try again tomorrow. it was a very quiet ride.

Van Buren AR - we all sat down and talked and decided we weren't gonna let that drop happen again that from here on out our score wouldn't go down. well our work paid off and we took home another gold, our 2nd to date. we bumped to the score up to 89.83 almost a full point ahead of 2nd in placements and GE (38.15). we felt very redeemed taking home 1st place out of 5. next show in Mesquite TX back to our home state

Mesquite TX - well we were schocked when the scores were announced that kadence was almost a full point ahead of our 89.94. the kids didnt think too much about it but i knew it wasn't a good show and that we couldnt let up on anything as we had been ahead of them all season. from here on out we take everyone seriously. placed 2nd of 3

Austin TX - the live music capital of the world and our home state, we were very excited about this one. me in particular since ive alwasy wanted to compete in this stadium. we went out there and did our thing and tied for GE but took home a 91.115. i was real happy were back in the 90s and happier we were able to redeem ourselves by passing up kadence. next show the southern cup in orlando. placed 4th of 12. im VERY tired of seeing the corps sitting in 4th constantly

Orlando FL - it was very sticky and moist in Orlando but we werent about to let that get in our way. the corps was able to push forward again and take home the high GE award and score a 92.145 and sit in 7th of 14th place. not too bad, im proud of them. the kids are getting ready for i&e and the corps first appearance in the world class prelims

World class prelims, Memphis TN - well here we go, the first of the 4 nights we've been waiting for all night. everyone is pumped and ready to go out there and tear it up. their performance was great, a few spots need help here and there but im still so proud of them. they scored 92.85 and took 12th place of 42!!!!! if thats not amazing for a first time corps i dunno what is. our eyes are still set on taking home GE and a championship.

world class quarter finals, memphis TN - once again this corps never ceases to amaze me, we moved up to 10th of 25 and bumped our score up to 93.345. were closing in on our 2 goals and were not going to stop till we get it. we will also be adding some new stuff the show just for semi finals to give our show a little extra something.

world class semi finals, memphis TN - YES WE ARE GOING TO FINALS!!!!!!! words can't describe how incredibly proud and happy i am. a corps from no where has come this far and bumped to 8th place of 17 in semifinals and moved the score up to 94.32. all the finalist corps are tied in GE with a 39.9. its right there for us all we have to do is go out there and have fun and do it up (hehe thats my blue devil side talking ). you wont be dissapointed with finals it wont be no 89 finals. were adding in a new ending, a surprise one. be there and see for your self. anything can happen with us tied for GE and only .6 away from gold!!!!
