  1. The Spintronix Color Guard is hosting their 4th annual Weekend Color Guard & Leadership Camp in Mountain View, MO THIS WEEKEND! Don't have a lot of money to spend on a guard camp? Come to the weekend camp! Cost is only $50 per student ($40 per student for a group of ten or more) and students will receive world-class instruction for an entire weekend, meals from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon, and the performance of a lifetime! Go to the website for more information and to download a registration form: http://www.spintronixguard.org Check out the Facebook events page to see what others are saying about camp, see a camp schedule, or talk to the director: https://www.facebook.com/#!/events/213767458648882/ See the video of last year's Weekend Camp color guard doing their final performance on YouTube by clicking here: Spintronix Color Guard is a Missouri non-profit organization formed for the development of programs that improve the lives of youth through the performing arts. They are known for their many opportunities for youth performance; including their weekend camp, indoor color guard unit, which competes in the MCCGA circuit, student members who have marched in the Macy's Great American Marching Band on Thanksgiving and the BOA Honor Band in the Tournament of Roses Parade, and others who have gone on to march with various drum and bugle corps across the country. For more information about any of our programs, please contact the director, Jackie, through the Spintronix website http://www.spintronixguard.org
  2. New to the forums! I used to read a lot of what was on here way back when I was marching with the Blue Stars Color Guard, but I never posted. I'm a science teacher and a guard instructor now that I've aged out. I choreograph for several different schools in 3 different states. I hope that I might get the chance to teach at the drum corps level some day, but I am really busy right now so I haven't had time to really try to get my foot in the door. Outside of guard I also love traveling, reading, and horsebackriding. No family of my own, but my students are practically my kids, so I spend a lot of time doing things to take care of them.
  3. I originally posted this in the color guard planet forum since the book I mention is very color guard specific, but seeing as how I am looking for more general books about marching band, drum corps, dance, and any performance art as well I thought I might re-share here and get some more replies... I have noticed that pleasure-reading books about the marching arts seems to be a growing genre, and I am incredibly interested to read about the experiences of others in the field. One book that has come out recently is a fictional story about color guard. I bought a copy to keep at our rehearsal facility and nearly all of my guard students have read it now with lots of praise! It is called "Spinsation" by the author J.M. Hope and I recommend it for junior high to high school aged students. Paperback copies unfortunately run a little on the high priced side, with new copies from Amazon right around $20, but if you have a Kindle you can download it for a mere $0.99! You can find it here http://www.amazon.com/Spinsation-Learning-Breathe-J-M-Hope/dp/1469146541/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333485403&sr=8-1, from Barnes & Noble , or from various other book dealers. Anybody else have any recommendations? Do you know anyone who is publishing anything? My students don't all like to read a whole lot, however most of them finish books about dance or color guard pretty quickly because they are interested. I have seen some books on drum corps online, do you think teens might be interested there?
  4. That would be perfect I think! I also found it on Amazon. Since I'm mostly looking for things for my students, young adult books are right up my alley. And ATXguard, if you figure out what the name of the author or any of the books are, I would love to look them up!
