  1. I am planning on attending the big four events this year: San Antonio, Atlanta, Allentown, and Indianapolis. I would like to purchase premium tickets for each event from the corps themselves. I am a Crossmen alumnus and will likely buy at least 1 show from them, but I am totally open to sitting in other corps' sections and have done so at various times with Carolina Crown, The Cadets and The Cavaliers. Without bashing any corps or its fan base, I'm curious which shows tend to have really high energy fan sections that are supportive of ALL corps performing at each of these events. Any thoughts? It is REALLY important to me that the section is supportive of all corps and that most people are in their seats for most of the show rather than just their favorite.
  2. Hey guys, I have 3 Super 3 package tickets I need to get rid of. I bought them when tickets went on sale, but unfortunately, I am unable to go this year. The Super 3 package were sold on the DCI website and from what I can see they are currently all sold out (the good seat). The tickets are for Prelims, Semis, and Finals and are in section 236, row 13, seats 25, 26, 27. you can either text or email me if you are interested, I have the tickets on hand and mail them out a soon as I sell them! thekirbster40@gmail.com or 480-205-5536 thanks!
  3. Hi everyone, During these past few months, there has been a continuous line of drum corps going inactive because of issues that relates to recruitment of members, finances, and poor leadership by staff members of corps. Below is a list of all the corps that have gone inactive. Inactive Corps: Minnesota Brass - ( DCA Open Class ) - inactive as of 4/23/18 Kilties - ( DCA Class A ) - inactive as of 4/23/18 Alliance - ( DCA Open Class ) - inactive as of 2/21/18 Rocketeers - ( All Age Soundsport Group/ DCA Class A Applicant ) - inactive as of 4/17/18 Rivermen - ( Junior Soundsport Group ) - inactive as of 1/17/18 Appalachian Sound - ( Junior Soundsport Group ) - inactive as of 3/15/18 Lone Star - ( Junior Soundsport Group ) - inactive as of 3/19/18 These corps suffered from at least one of the situations listed above. I have recently been in touch with some corps that are looking to return to DCI Competition. However, these corps feel that at the moment, the problems that I have listed could potentially fall upon them. As a result of this, these corps are holding off efforts to get back into DCI competition. Below is list of corps that fall under this category. Teal Sound - World Class - hopes to return in near future. Doesn’t want to return yet because of the incident that happened with YEA. Spirit of Newark - Open Class - hopes to return in the near future. Cannot return yet due to lack of financial support. Racine Scouts - Open Class - hopes to return in the future. Making attempts to grow slowly back into DCI. Cannot return yet due to low membership numbers. We must do do everything we can to help promote the growth of these corps. Corps from all the competitive circuits are suffering and it is up to us to help them out. If you know someone who wants to march, please encourage them to do so. Make small financial donations whenever possible to help ensure the longetiviry of these corps. In the poll above, please vote for the way that plan to help/support drum corps.
  4. https://www.dci.org/news/2018-dci-tour-by-the-numbers This DCI article from 2017-12-06 explicitly that both the DCI Premiere and Big, Loud & Live 15 will both be coming to theaters nationwide, however I cannot find any evidence of this on the DCI Schedule or the Fathom Events site. Any ideas?

    Music City 2018

Music City is DCI's newest World Class Corps! Any thoughts?
  6. Hi everyone, After the recent events regarding the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps, I have come to wonder what the future will be for the corps. I personally will say that the Cadets are an amazing corps and always put on a fun, entertaining show. However, now that the corps reputation has been badly damaged, I am fearing the worst. Many people who I have spoken to have said that people will not want to march Cadets because of everything that has happened. People are thinking that they don’t want to be part of a corps with a history of sexual harassment and assault. As a result of this, some people are thinking that the corps will eventually die out because no one would want to march there. I know this whole thing is a theory; however, there are lots of people who share and believe in these theories. Would you allow yourself, your kids, or your friends to march in the Cadets? Please anwser in the poll provided.
  7. Hi, everyone, before I get to my next match up episode, I wanted to take some time and talk about uniforms in DCI. Uniforms have been around since the birth of the marching arts. However, starting in 2016, a movement began. The Bluecoats won their first championships wearing costumes that were customed designed. When the Bluecoats made their departure, other corps followed the same path. In 2017, The Santa Clara Vanguard, The Blue Knights, The Cadets, The Madison Scouts, Gold, Southwind, and The Guardians made the move to costumes. Seeing this movement makes one wonder how long do traditional uniforms, ( shakos, plumes, jackets, and pants ), have until they cease to exist in the Drum Corps World. When looking at the costumes themselves, they have both won championships and lost championships. In the 2016, The Bluecoats won their very first championship wearing costumes. However, the following year in 2017, The Bluecoats, The Cadets, and The Blue Knights finished lower than they did in 2016. On the flip side, The Santa Clara Vanguard and The Madison Scouts finished higher than they did last year in 2016. Santa Clara Vanguard managed to climb up all they way into the top three for the first time since 2004 and The Madison Scouts made it back into the finals after finishing 13th in 2016. For the Open Class Corps, The Guardians, Southwind, and Gold became the first open class corpsnto wear costumes. The movement of using costumes has spread to both the World Class Corps and the Open Class Corps. In my opinion, I like uniforms and hope that they stick around in drum corps. Now, in this thread, please post below what your thoughts are on uniforms and costumes in DCI.
  8. I am working on a Drum Corps World article on Melissa "Mely" Salguero the 2018 Grammy Educator Of The Year. I have a ton of material from the hundreds of interviews and stories about her life leading up to her Grammy. What is missing is her time in the marching arts as a member of the Americans in 2000 and the Boston Crusaders 2001-2004. I will be interviewing her in a few days, but what I seek is quotes from people who marched with her. Also, if you have a question that you would like me to ask her. If you have any interesting or funny anecdotes I would love to hear from you. Thanks!
  9. The Muchachos Drum and Bugle Corps of Manchester, NH has an immediate opening for a brass instructor for the 2018 season. Formerly a junior corps in the '60s, '70s and early '80s, today's Manchester Muchachos is an all-age, DCI-affiliated corps that performs a field show in exhibition at Boston-area DCI shows. Members range in age from 14 to 70+ and consist of seasoned veterans as well as new brass players. If you are interested in working with a wonderful group of individuals in a great family atmosphere, please send an email to muchachos.org (at) gmail.com for more information and an application. Rehearsals are generally every other Sunday and are located in and around Manchester, NH. Because membership in the Manchester Muchachos is open to youth under the age of 18, potential members, staff, and volunteers who are 18 or older must undergo a background check. This is a part-time, paid (stipend or per diem) position. Thank you for your interest in the Muchachos! Have a great season, everyone! Joan muchachos.org

  11. Its common for a corp to experience a downfall after winning a championship (except BD of course), but I'm sure am excited to see where the Bluecoats are gonna go this year after falling to 5th last year (2017 )trailing of the Cavies at Finals. As much as I'm hoping they'll jump back to their traditional uniforms, it seems unlikely cause of the dramatic shift Corps are experiencing in visual prospect. I sure am expecting an exciting repertoire this year. What are your hopes, desires, expectations for Bloo this year?
  12. I was looking at the lineup for the DCI Eastern Classic for Friday evening when I noticed one of the units was Calvacade of Bands, Harrisburg, PA. I had to do a double take to be sure I realized what I was reading. So why are they listed? Are they an opening or closing act for Friday? Calvacade of Bands is usually an association, will this be a conglomerate of band performers under the Calvacade flag? The world (at least the drum corps world) deserves to know!
  13. Hi everyone, This is episode 7 of my match up series. In this episode, we will be looking at the Colts and The Academy. In 2017, both corps experienced changes. New uniforms, new staff, etc. Both corps were neck and neck with eachother. This match up should be very interesting to watch in the 2018. Now it time for you to vote. Who do you think will score and finish higher next season? Vote and well will find out.

  15. Hi everyone, welcome to episode 5 of my corps match up series. In this episode, we will be looking the Cavaliers and the Bluecoats. Looking back at the 2017 season, the Bluecoats did some tremendous things. They continued to move away from “traditional drum corps” and are exploring new ways to perform their shows on the field. They finished 5th with a 95.163 at finals. For the Cavaliers, they still kept their traditional corps look in their uniform but it’s slowly becoming more fainter and fainter year by year. Also, the Cavalier did an amazing thing the night of finals. They managed to slide ahead of the Bluecoats and went from 5th to 4th. They finished finals with a 95.200. Having said all that, who do you think will score and finish higher in 2018. Please vote in the poll above and we will find out!

    2017 in Review

Hi everyone, as 2017 comes to an end, I thought that it would be nice to take some time to look back on the events that occurred in 2017. For starters, Blue Devils won their 18th title in 2017 and celebrated their 60th anniversary. Also in 2017, the Santa Clara Vanguard finished in 2nd and also celebrated their 50th anniversary as well. It was the first time Santa Clara Vanguard medaled since 2004. Also in 2017, the Cavaliers, the Boston Crusaders, the Madison Scouts, and the Mandarins made incredible jumps in 2017. The Cavaliers managed to slide into 4th place at DCI finals ahead of the Bluecoats, the Boston Crusaders finished in 6th place and beat the Cadets for the first time since 1980, the Madison Scouts made it back into the finals and finished in 12th place, and the Mandarins had their best season ever and finished in 13th place, their highest placement ever. They also finished the season with a 85.550, their highest score ever. Lastly, to conclude this list, we have Genesis and Music City. Genesis finished their very first competitive season in world class in 2017. They finished in 23th place and scored a 76.213, their highest score ever. And finally, the biggest headline for 2017 is Music City’s move to world class. Music City finished in 4th place in open class finals and finished in 24th place in world championship semi finals. In open class finals, Music City scored their highest score ever and scored a 76.763. In the world class semi finals, Music City scored a 74.275, their highest finish at DCI world class championships. Overall, 2017 was a great year and hopefully, we will have many great new story lines next year in 2018!
  17. Hi everyone, welcome to episode 6 of my corps match up series. Today we will be looking at an unusual but very interesting pair of Corps today; Golden Empire and Heat Wave of Florida. Let’s start off with Golden Empire. Golden Empire is a drum corps that was founded in 2013. They have stayed local and have competed in competitions along the west coast. In 2017, Golden Empire had one of their best season ever and finished a their season at the Southern California bellflower championships with a 59.70. In 2018, they are scheduled to compete in many competitions across the United States as they head to the DCI World Championships for the very first time in their history. And now on to Heat Wave of Florida. Heat Wave of Florida was founded in 2014. Like Golden Empire, they have primarly stuck to competing locally. They have competed on the east coast for the most part. 2017 was Heat Wave’s greatest year by far and finished their local season with a high score of 57.40. The interesting part about Heat Wave is that they too are planning on competing at the 2018 DCI World Championships for the first in the Corps history. They are currently under evaluation by DCI. If DCI passes Heat Wave as a strong, stable organization, then Heat Wave will be allowed to compete at the DCI World Championships. It would be the first time a Florida Corps has attended the DCI world championships since Teal Sound last went in 2011. When looking at both Corps, both Corps are very young, both Corps are on opposite sides of the United States, and both Corps plan to make their very first debut at the DCI World Championships in 2018. Now after all that, who do you think will score and finish higher in 2018? Please vote in the poll above and we will find out!
  18. Hi everyone, Here is episode 4 of my match up series. Looking back at the 2017 season, one of the biggest story lines was that the Boston Crusaders beat the Cadets for the first time since 1979. The Boston Crusaders finished 6th and the Cadets finished 7th. Looking at both corps, the Cadets moved away from using uniforms and shakos and made the transition to costumes. Also, the Cadets bought back a show theme from an earlier show that they did in 1983. As for the Boston Crusaders, they kept wearing uniforms and stepped up their game competitively. They beat the cadets for the first time since 1979. Also, the Boston Crusaders moved from 12th to 6th in one season. Having said all that, who do you think will score and finish higher? Please vote in the poll and we will find out!
  19. After seeing the Blue Stars and Crossmen compete neck and neck with eachother all season this year, I began to wonder which corps might be in that same situation next season where they are right next to each other in terms of scoring and placement. My tight grouping predictions for next season are the following: Blue Devils v.s. Santa Clara Vanguard Santa Clara Vanguard v.s. Carolina Crown Bluecoats v.s. Cavailers Cadets v.s. Blue Knights Phantom Regiment v.s. Blue Knights Blue Stars v.s. Crossmen Madison Scouts v.s. Mandarins Troopers v.s. Colts Blue Devils B v.s. Vanguard Cadets Gold v.s. Golden Empire Seattle Cascades v.s. Jersey Surf Jersey Surf v.s. Pioneer Music City v.s. Genesis Battalion v.s. Columbians Impulse v.s. Shadow Shadow v.s. River City Rhythm Les Stentors v.s. Impulse Pacific Crest v.s. Oregon Crusaders Colts v.s. Academy Oregon Crusaders v.s. Spirit of Atlanta Again, these are just my predictions. What are your predictions? Do any of your predictions match any of mine? Do you agree or disagree with my predictions? Please comment in this thread and we will find out!
  20. Hi everyone, I just noticed this but the 2017 Blue Knights video that drum corps international posted has disappeared. Does anyone know what happened?
  21. Hi everyone, Welcome to the third edition of my match up series. In this edition, we will be looking at the Madison Scouts and the Mandarins. Looking back at the 2017 season, both corps accomplished many great things. The Madison Scouts pulled forward and made a return to finals after placing 13th at the 2016 DCI World Championships. They finished 12th in 2017 and changed their look for the first time since their founding by breaking away from the corps historical look. For the Mandarins, they had a successful season and finished 13th at the 2017 DCI World Championships. Throughout the 2017 season, the Madison Scouts and the Mandarins banged heads with each other and the competition got so intense that at almost every other competition, the corps would place right next to each other. There were some points in the season where the scouts would finish ahead of the mandarins at one competition and then at the very next competition, the mandarins would finish ahead of the Scouts. From all of this, it is very clear that the two corps are going to be battling it out again next season. Now, in the poll that is attached, please vote for who you think will score and finish higher!
  22. Hi everyone, as part of my drum corps poll series, I’ve come up with my next match up. Throughout the 2017 season Pioneer and Jersey Surf went head to head at numerous competitions throughout the season. At the DCI World Championships, Pioneer finished 34th and Jersey Surf finished 27th. Even though there is a gap between the two, that gap might close up next season. Pioneer is on a mission to field a full Corps next season. Within the goal of marching a full corps next season, Pioneer has a goal of marching a full hornline of 80 brass next season. As of right now, they have 44 brass members registered for their first camp in January. They expect to have their full 80 man hornline by their march camp. Also, pioneers 2018 production Irish Dragons is going to be a show that is going to be the beginning of a new era for pioneer. With this new growth for pioneer, Pioneer is on a mission to rise to the top both competitively and as an organization. Pioneer is going to be a force to be reckoned with next season. After having said all that, who do you think will score higher and finish higher. Please vote and we’ll find out!
  23. After noticing that Music City finished 24th at the DCI World Championships and that Genesis finished 23rd right above them, I began to wonder who might score higher because they are right next to each other from a scoring standpoint. Attached is a poll and please vote for the corps that you think will score and place higher than the other.
