gcurrier Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 The Knight Org group of corps gave their kickoff show in Portland Maine (headquarters for the Organization) last night before heading to Maryland for the first competition of the season! The crowd LOVED their home town defending champions and were equally as receptive to the other two organization powerhouses! THE THREE MUSES The Knights The Knights are pleased to present their Season XIV show The Three Muses! The Three Muses can only be done by the Knights! It’s a tale of a young man who falls into a deep trance under the spell of three goddesses. While he feels he has the first two well under control, when the third arrives she threatens to tear everything apart! The goddesses each represent love; first love, passionate love and lifelong love. The show starts with Trittico Movement 1 by Vaclav Nelhybel Siegfried Act III Overture and Dvorak Symphony #3. Through the three pieces we develop the story of what shall unfold as each seem to tease and taunt our hero into performing for them and committing to each. In the next section Trittico-Movement 2 by Vaclav Nelhybel, Polish Symphony-Allegro Brillante by Tchaikovsky, New England Triptych by William Schuman and Polish Symphony Finale tears our hero in three directions where he ultimately is forced to choose between his first love, his most passionate love and his true love. A dual theme is introduced further as first love scene includes hints of Millennium Celebration from The Knights season XII show and passionate love includes hints of Meditation from Thais from the Knights XIII show. In the third section, our Hero has chosen his true love to marry. As they begin to marry and celebrate, the two other sister muses will have none of it! They burst in to battle one another for his love. Symphony #3 by Camile Saint Saens, will represent the wedding scene and Trittico-Movement 3 by Vaclav Nelhybel and Trinity by James Dooley will represent the battle. As our hero begins to awake and realize this has all been just a dream he finds he really has just fallen asleep in the garden under two muse statues and his true love awakens him with a kiss, now he truly has all three loves returns in Mother Earth from Symphony #3 by Johan de Meij. We expect this will once again be a true classic and romantic show by the Knights as we attempt to tame all of our muses and bring one more pretty lady home! LES BLANC CHEVALIER "Camille" music by Camille Saint Saens Bacchanale from Samson and Delilah Havanaise The Swan from Carnival of Animals/ Introduction and Rondo capriccioso Africa-Fantaisie for Piano and Orchestra Symphony #3 Organ Triptych Opus 136-Joyeuse Dance Macabre Finale-Carnival of the Animals Piano Concerto #2 3rd Movement-PRESTO/Bacchanale Conclusion Les Blanc Chevalier uses the music of Camille Saint Saens to show off a more traditional and classical show for them. The corps will take musical beauty and drive it into hard hitting loud classical sections. Animals will represent throughout the show with many vibrant colors and flair as if we are locked in a day at the zoo. Be sure not to miss The Swan scene, bound to be one of the more beautiful sections of the season. Sure to be one of the crowds, especially the younger children, favorite show of the season! Cape Cod Regiment Organ music Symphony #3 Organ Camile Saint Saens Toccata from Symphony No 5 Charles Marie-Widor Symphony No. 2 for Organ and Orchestra-Alexandre Guilmant Toccata and Fugue in D Minor-Bach Symphony Concertante-Joseph Jongen Suite in G Major for Strings and Organ-Ottorino Respighi /A Mighty Fortress-Martin Luther Cape Cod Regiment takes a drastically different approach for them and instead of looking into more popularized music, exams the music of only one idiom, the organ! The show will feel very Cathedral like through much of the visual representations and while we know it is a risk to step outside of ourselves and try a direction SO different, we also are thrilled to be part of an exciting season bigger than ourselves and present our own diversity. Did anyone notice the theme between all three corps? Carrying the “three”pete one step further, we are pushing for all THREE corps to win their THIRD DCPI Championship and all using Symphony #3 by Saint Saens somewhere in the show. We challenged all three corps to take this piece and twist it in their own direction using it at the beginning for CCR, Middle for LBC and towards the end for the Knights. Each will represent the piece in a very different context, yet sound very much as regal. When the three will play these three variations together, they will create an overlapping lusciousness of sound that will truly set our audiences on their feet! We hope you enjoy all three corps shows as we present the Knight Orgs group shows “Ya gotta TRI”! Quote
