NO Big Loss!!! Why I should fly back there right now and kick some whoop ###...
Good to hear you’re still dissin' me after all these years... I was Googling my own name to see if there was any personal information on the net (I have been hearing about identify theft on the news) and look what I find!.. I found you!... In the old fart section of DCP no less. The internet is an amazing thing.
I know the topic thread is old as hell now but I didn’t see mention of Black Watch on list of folded corps. Weren’t they a NY state corps? Are they still around?
Also you forgot the Blue Devils and Sprit of Atlanta in your list of corps the L.I. Kingsmens was so graciously feeding their trained members. I have some pictures of the Kingsmen alumni gathering for a photo at finals in Montreal. I would post it if I could figure out how.
Looks like your doing a good job with the B-men. Keep it up!... Wish I was closer… One thing though… I don’t care if you become COE of Chrysler.. You will always be Tigger to me… And thanks for the send off from Newark that day. I did hear the pilot’s announcement giving me the send off message over the intercom. It was great!
Gary... Go to page 554 on the old pictures thread. I posted an old picture of some of us X-LIKs

Would that be Mark Avila?
He marched in BD 82 and designed a couple of our t-shirts as well. I'm pretty sure he marched Crossmen prior to Blue Devils.
Mark Aviles marched for the LI Kingsmen, Crossmen and ended with BD in '82. He started by painting Drum Corp characters on walls and t shirts around Long Island. He did a great Mad Magazine, Spy vs Spy with Bridgemen uniforms. I might have drawing that in an old box.
Now he is in the medical industry living in Southern Jersey.

Here is the pin DCI gave out that year to all participants:
-
SCV Bottle Dance
Bridgemen Fall
Cadets zip line
Madison Fronts
-
We lost two former members, Jeff Fox, baritone (also marched Bridgemen) and Patrick Dwyer, snare, on 9/11 in the World Trade Towers. Others we have lost:
John Aviles, driver (also one of the Grumman designers of the lunar module)
Gary Black, hornline
Rob Drescher, drums
Joe Heaney, driver
Joe Panzarino, drums
Bob Pearson, Brass Arranger and Instructor (wrote our original 1980 opener)
James Reed, driver and miracle mechanic
Peggy Sjursen, cook staff
George Tuthill, Percussion Arranger/Instructor
You can see a picture of Jeff on post 5532 on page 554 of the Old Photos subject. Jeff is the Baritone on the left.

I discovered it on a flyer outside of an Ice cream shop. The flyer was looking for members of the Smithtown (NY) Freelancers.
BTW at the first few practices there was a guy named Wayne Downey who had moved out to California. If I remember it correctly some of instructors included Sasso brothers and Frank Dorrittie

I remember going to my first DCI level show in 1973. I think it was in Edison, NJ. Some of the best were there.
The Muchachos were ones that started my love of drum corps.
Pure entertainment!
