  1. Ok, now I know we've got something special. If Roz is excited, it is really mind blowing. The only person more low key in the corps than me must be Roz.

Hmmm....I'm getting the itch to give this another go. I just looked at your schedule and it appears the next rehearsals are on the 10th and 24th. Unfortunately, I have work related training on those two days. Would I be too far behind if I didn't make a first rehearsal until the 25th? Also, I think my daughter will be interested in playing too (she also plays trumpet).

  2. Ok, I just got a new car and I am tired of my old plates. I have narrowed my choices down to 3, and would like to poll the DCI fans to see which would be most recognizable:

    Option 1: D&B CORP

    Option 2: D&B CRPS

    Option 3: DRM CORP

Option 4: HRD 2TOP (Not drum corps related, but has a double meaning. Hard to Top as in it's a sweet car that hard to top. It also is a hard top convterible.)

Here's a pic of the car the plate is for.

I'm leaning towards Option 1, but thanks in advance for your opinion.

  3. I can't let this go. I must voice my opinion regarding the video quality of this years video quality. Am I the only one that feels like I'm watching a blown up YouTube video anytime the High Camera Angle is showing? There is no detail what-so-ever. It looks like garbage. When showing close-ups on the multi-cam cameras, it is livable....but this high camera blows. WTF???? I just don't understand what can be so hard about producing a quality video.

DCI finally broke into the late 90's with an anamorphic widescreen presentation and I am grateful for that. The audio quality is excellent in my opinion. However, DCI just can't seem to get the video quality right. The bit rate of the video varies between 5 and 7 mbps. Admittedly, I am used to much higher bitrates from Blu-ray, but I know DVD quality video can look MUCH better. Is the video compressed that much to make it look this crappy? I for one would gladly pay more for something more watchable. Do what you need to do DCI and get your crap together.

What really bugs my is DCI has us by the balls here because they know we'll buy it no matter how crappy it is because we are such big fans. C'mon DCI....give us fans a quality product.

Sorry for the rant....that's just how I feel after being disappointed year after year.

  4. During the Cadets' show, they have that spot where the girl runs down the tunnel of rifle tosses, and she gets to the last one and it's huge and it's all her. Well, at the Warrenton, VA show, she dropped it, but at QF, she nailed it and everyone cheered!!

Yeah....when she missed that drop in Warrenton, the whole crowd sighed "Awwwww". It was pretty funny (personal victory for me as I despised Cadets show this year).

  5. QUOTE

The 2008 Drum Corps International World Championships Volume 1 DVD features the top 12 World Class Finalists. This two-disc, anamorphic Widescreen DVD set features Dolby 5.1, and High/Director Cut video options on all 12 corps.

About time....welcome to the 90's!!! I was hoping for Blu-ray, but I'll definitely take the widescreen over 4:3 pillar boxed. Thank you DCI.

  6. lol

Can you imagine if the computer on one goes berserk and starts crashing into other instruments, and worse yet, other performers? Can you imagine the swath of devastation a 4 1/2 octave symphonic marimba could make through the field?

The user controls the movement. It's like a Segway that doesn't require you to use your hands (so your hands are free to carry a horn). It is controlled by shifting your weight in the direction you want it to go.

  7. Yeah, in a lot of people's minds, that's the case. We're working to change that by growing and getting more exposure. Anyway, I'll be paying attention to see if the ManyDC people make some sort of announcement.

I wish you success. I wanted so badly to march an all-age corps. I tried out SS for a couple months a couple of years ago and it just didn't cut it for me. I still check in on you guys to see if any progress has been made. Good luck!!

  8. So at the Warrenton, VA show tonight, there was an announcement that the show sponsor, Many DC, was planning a "world class corps" in Northern VA. Now, the way it was announced, it made it seem like Many DC was planning on moving an existing Div I corps. Did anyone hear that tonight or have any insight? It would be cool to have a viable junior corps in the area as long as their age-outs come march Shenandoah!!

Are you sure that they actually announced that they would be sponsoring a world class drum corps? When I heard it....it sounded more like they were just summarizing what is on their website. Note the last paragraph:

MANY - Mid-Atlantic Arts Network for Youth

    ---------------------------------------------------

If you believe in providing opportunities for young people to grow into extraordinary citizens with the skills to contribute significantly to society at large, then MANY deserves your support.

The vehicle MANY has chosen to achieve this, is the elite combination of artistic skills, discipline, teamwork and athleticism called Drum and Bugle Corps in the format prescribed by Drum Corps International (DCI) and IMPACT Independent, an Atlantic Indoor Association and Winter Guard International competitor.

MANY is also the sponsor of Capital Regions Annual Drum Corps Event called Drum Corps in Fauquier (DCIF).

The vision of MANY is to support young people with the necessary resources to participate in a DCI Corps, support the needs of drum corps and, ultimately, to sponsor a world-class drum corps in the Washington Metropolitan Area.
