I'm looking to purchase my own silver 3 valve G Alto Mellophone Bugle. Alto and Mello are the same thing but I put them both there for clarity and for searches.

I want a horn that is intact (no missing pieces except maybe valve caps, easily replaceable) and plays that does not require any major work immediately. I don't mind some small scratches and dings because I can always get those fixed down the road. I also understand lacquer wear at the holding positions happens so that's cool.

I can afford about $300, maybe more (up to $500) depending on how soon I get a job since I just graduated.

I honestly don't know much about brand names but I'm assuming DEG Dynasty, Kanstul, and Getzen are pretty good since those are on a lot of posts here and on eBay.

I play all sorts of instruments but have been on Mello since high school. I play F Mello in my college band and hope to get enough time off of whatever job I get to play G Alto in my senior corps, of which I happen to be one of the original members!

  1. This item starts Thursday night 1/3/08 at about 7pm pacific and will run 7 days. Titled: Dynasty Mellophone Bugle in G Nickel Lacquer 3 Valve LR Item # 280188815364 There are plenty of pictures and the reserve is low. This is a seriously nice horn.
  2. I am interested in one of the Dynasty G 3 valve Mellos. A friend of mine marched Yamato last year or the year before and told me you guys get the horns from BD and take good care of them. Right now I am looking at a horn on eBay but it ends very soon, and if it goes too high I will not be able to afford it. I would like to know what I need to do to acquire one of your instruments. Also, do you have any pictures of them? I'm looking for something that isn't missing parts and plays well. I don't mind some small dings, scratches, and wear at the thumbs. That's all pretty standard with used horns. I just don't want a horn that requires major work any time soon. Thank you for any further info you can provide and I hope to hear back:)
  3. Thanks for the info. I'm looking at one on eBay right now and trying to get ahold of Yamato. A friend of mine marched for them last year and told me that their horns are pretty good condition since they get them from Blue Devils. Hopefully I can get ahold of them before they're gone:)
