  1. Yes....i spin, it bothers me when people talk about me "twirling flags". I actually correct them. I cant say why it just bothers me...a lot... :luke:
  2. My oh my...so many uni's... So i liked Phantoms unis, the whole dominatrix thing was really cute, but i didnt really get how it went with their show. I know the show was about artsy fartsy stuff, but i couldnt grasp how the uni's went w/ that. They were very artsy but more dark art than their music was. Can anyone enlighten us? Maybe you heard something? Vanguard, kinda reminded me of Cavi's 02. Went really well w/ the concept, just didnt care for them much. Crown, sorry girls, but yuck, shiny material on a field makes anyone look fat. I saw y'all up close so i know youre not but, from far away...bad news. Georgous dancers though. Blue Knights, looking through pics, what were y'all wearing at the begining? That was nasty! End of season one were hot, but white unitards?!
  3. Yup i do it too. and about the thinking about catching that 6 or if im in unison with the other 4 or 5 (which now is 34-35) we still do that but its at the same time as moving body underneath the toss in question. It was tightly controlled what do you think ballet is about? I didnt mean that i sucked at spinning before i started dancing on the side, just that ballet teaches you alot about your body, things that a whole lot of guards (HS) arnt told at the get go. Like youre susposed to scoup your tummy and flatten your back at all times, no matter what. Ive spun under both techniques (with and with out alot of integrated dance) and i like with dance more, its more of a challenge. Its like "okay ive got this work after one week of sectionals now i can nit pick my body". Also when i was under the low dancing techniques we were being beaten by the guards who had professional ballet instructors on their staff (this was in HS). side note.....i was taping my rifle while reading all your responses.....funny...tehehe. BTW im not being mean, i just LOVE debating about guard/corps B)
  4. But you have to think, what if one of the unit's flags or uni's happen to clash w/ the floor, they might actually lose some of their effect (i doubt this would happen but think red on blue, it just hurts to look at). Plus part of the fun of WG is getting the mat on and off the floor, or running around trying to con other guards/alumni [ ] in to helping you. So you want to elimate dance? So then it would (in turn) eliminate all the under-work dance stuff, or atleast it wouldnt be done very well. Ive been in guard for going on 6 years now but i didnt take dance ballet lessons untill i got in to corps b/c i didnt need them untill then (2 years ago). I can feel a difference in my spinning, performing, i feel more confidant....almost everything changed, because i started dancing more. I spin smother, i actually stop looking at the floor/field, it has made me better all around. Now unless youre planning on getting a bunch of naturally gifted dancers good luck with the no dancing thing. I used to hate dance block, or anytime dance would be in the show, untill i learned how to dance well. We all know how hard exchanges and stuff like that are [not being sarcastic....i mean this with all my heart...they scare the crap out of me] but now a days they are seen as "tricks". A gift of emoting well is that the auidence can actually feel what you're feeling.....*psst* i think thats part of GE now :ramd: alright everyone lets bust out the sequins, rhinestone, and lame flags! sorry if im being harsh, but i've been around colorguard since 1983 (my dads a band director) and i like guard the way it is. Give me china silk, spandex and a pilates book please :P
  5. My sophmore year in HS...i was in an ind winterguard.....our background was these huge rolling PCP piping T cross thingies, with long pieces of floor-mat material hanging on it. Well we were susposed to pull out a pin to make them shorter and easier to roll. At my first show i was pushing one of the pieces off the floor, but i forgot to pull the pin out. So as i was pushing it off quickly and grabbing flags it fell on top of me! :sos: I eventually pushed it off of me and got off the floor, but ill never forget that
  6. In 01 during all days-- we were doing one of our many daily run' throughs. During the closer we had a barrel roll at the front of the field, about 8 steps back, and we all know how rehearsal fields are, so i landed on the edge of a hole, and twisted my ankle. When i tried to get up to go on, my ankle was hurting so bad that i couldnt get up. i know i have to get out of the way so i crawled under some pit equpiment. I sat there patiently, crying, waiting for the run to get over so i can get some ice, cause if i try to get out at that point i'll run in to people. But our WONDERFULL flag tech helps me off the field. Not SUPER funny, but kinda. Imagine hiding under a LOUD bass drum.
  7. awww why cant there be more guys like you in the real world? Now i want to be a super nice guard girl.
  8. Yea our whole bus thought that too.....i loved their uni's, they made everyone look very cut and strong. I would have to say that Cavalier's uni's would be the closeset to my favorite for 02. I didnt like a whole lot os the ones out there......too many were just un-flattering (is that even a word???). Cant wait to see what everyone is wearing in 03!!
  9. My first rifle eer was an old POS, and it being my sophmore year,I sucked and dropped all the time, and everytime i would drop my gun, little chips of wood would fly out. Thus i named it "Chip" Some of the underclassmen attempled to take it from me but i just told them off and took it home. ;)^
