  1. Phantom used baritones?

    Hey, that was almost clever!

I actually loved Phantom's low brass presence last year. Really something else.

Last time I saw phantom live was in 2009 in Indy, and there was ZERO presence (I was on the 50, too) ... but now I'm mostly in the Fan Network, non-traveling denomination and from there, its still not close to what it used to be from them.

  2. 2000 Blue Devils

I don't think I'm wrong in saying that, I'm sure most of us would prefer them to duplicate this sound EVERY year. 2006 was close, but still not quite. Great show design and spectacular music. Prototypical BD look and flair while channeling it to a dynamic theme.

Plain and simple this show doesn't come across as trying to do something just because its on the sheets. Its just fun, loud, fast, creative (while staying accessible), and entertaining. This is my favorite "image" of BD. All the madness without needing to put it on a Billboard.

  3. Well, I didn't care all that much for John Mackey's musical compositions.

But now that you've told us that " the BIG names and institutions like his music " then I've changed my mind. I LOVE his music now. This is because I'm a big believer in" BIG institutions". They know better than all of us what is " good music ", interesting music " and " entertaining music ".

I don't like to think for myself either. I like " BIG names and BIG institutions" to do it for me.

Let's face it, it's what made the country great, ie... Following " the BIG institutions ", and liking what they like. They know what's " best ".

    turn off fox news :worthy:

  4. Actually, 'nobody' is a valid answer. The question was "Who does this suit on the field?" Nobody implies that "no, this piece does not suit any corps," which is actually a completely valid answer, whether you say it is or not. So, I guess that means that that one "ignorant" person was actually the only person to contribute to this thread so far, no? Glad I could help!

Wrong again! Man you're just piling it up today... :worthy:

The question was which corps does it suit. Meaning--stay with me here--that you pick a corps, or you don't say anything. PRETTY SIMPLE! Regardless whether you like it or not, there are sections of this piece that fall within the general style of some corps. :worthy:

You can continue on with your smart-### "kill with kindness" routine, or you can just go to bed and try waking up on the correct side of the bed tomorrow. And maybe try not peeing in someone's cheerios for the ENTIRE day. :worthy:

  5. And you didn't even listen to the piece (or else you'd know that he composes by playing piano).

First off, I didn't ask what you thought about John Mackey as a composer. The question was: Which corps do you think this would suit?. If you don't like it, GO AWAY. Just say nothing. This thread doesn't concern you.

Second, let's hear where you get off calling somebody else terrible at composing. Let's hear something you wrote... There are plenty of composers throughout history who were not popular in their time, yet have firmly cemented their place in music history.

  6. 00 - Devils (What the devils should sound like EVERY year)

01 - Crossmen (My kind of show!)

02 - Cavies (Changing what drum corps can be)

03 - SCV (Great concept and music)

    04 - Devils (Great energy!)

    05 - Cavies (Thought they should've won!)

06 - Cavies (Coolest execution of a concept)

07 - Devils (Performers show ... loved the theme!)

08 - Phantom (Drum corps can still be old-school and emotional)

    09 - Crown (that hornline...mmmm)
