Probably obvious but the same approach should be taken for administration and volunteers. We ask that parents turn thier childeren over to us for 3 months, we should do what we need to to put the parents mind at ease.
While I agree, you'd also have to do checks on each marching member as well. 18 - 21 year olds are certainly capable of having something in their past worth consideration.
In 1979 we sent a person home for fighting , this happened during the middle of our tour and our admin staff had this guy on the very next bus home.
Those that knew this individual also knew he has a short fuse. Later that tour, a second was sent home but that was just for being an a-hole in general.

...and if someone says they're going to play La Suerta, they should play La Suerta

Up hill both ways, in the snow, carrying a snare and a contra, while spinning your rifle?
Wimp.
LOL might as well have been. But actually it was mid July, only one day was uphill (the route was different each of the four days but started and ended in the same spot) rifles carried at "sling arms"
We did get an honorable mention for having the most roadside IV's administered. I believe it was 7 of the 14 members.

Looks like Edinburgh. Top Secret is great! Do they still do the flaming drumsticks? Where in the Netherlands? I did one in Nijmegan in 1977.
I was stationed in Augsburg in '86 visited Nijmegan that year and saw some of their shows. Also completed the 100 mile march, got the patch and tendonitis to prove it.

An editor of mine used to play classical music -- including opera -- in his office. I recall one day when he left his office door open, and we could hear an opera singer singing his lungs out. A co-worker walked by and remarked, "He sounds like he's hurting himself."
The same might be said if anyone were to play any one of Maynard Ferguson's songs. I don't even know what that last note was at the end of the Star Trek theme.

No...it's not June yet, so here we go with more mindless drivel to occupy our time. Let's say Hollywood producers want to make a major motion picture about drum corps. You the fans have to cast the movie. Who would play who?
I'll start:
Scott Stewart.....................Chuck Norris
Gail Royer.........................Rip Taylor
Michael Cesario..................Nathan Lane
Adam Sandler
(Billy Madison/Canteen Boy) ..................Li'l Geoffrey

*sputter* Preston Howard on a BARI??? He was geeky-looking enough on a Frenchie.
The last time I saw Geeky Preston, he had finally filled into the tall frame of his. He was a good 225 lbs. I didn't even recognize him and if he hadn't yelled at me, I would've walked right past him.

Where's the phasing? I'm currently cranking this one in my car and haven't heard it...unless you're referring to a bad contra attack about 2/3 through.
Now the feet....during the ballad there was that one section from the backfield camera that was just God Awful....MASSIVE feet phasing, and something that could easily be seen from the GE box....I've always felt that was a factor (that and the HORRIDLY out of tune sop or mello at the very end...VERY flat on the audio)
Since we're talking about '87...
This is one of my favorite SCV years, so much that this is usually the show I'll play for someone who has never seen a drum corps show.
However, whenever I do, they ALWAYS comment on that Bari players high-water pants during the snap turn in the opener. I know you guys know the one I'm talking about. If not, go to FN and pause it at 2:26. He's the fourth from the right.
SCV has always had such a well fitting and tailored look and there's no way this guy went all season with those pants. Seriously, the cuff was at least 4 inches or more above the tops of his shoes. His pants almost looked like culottes.
Anyone know the deal?

1978 - Whenever 27th Lancers Flag Exchange During Drum Solo
1978 - Whenever 27th Lancers Rotating Company Front into the Dannyboy Push!
Agree with these, but '78 was the year they went with the pom-pom ending and not Danny Boy. I've heard that the corps didn't care for the pom-pom's but they used them again in '82 just to make sure.

Nothing personal to those who marched in the 70's, but I cannot listen to more than 3 seconds of 70's drum corps at a time, it is performed so atrociously.
Three seconds? don't hurt yourself...
The '70s horn lines weren't for the most part made up of music majors as are the lines today. The "kids" really were kids and the average age was not 19.5
Our hornline(for example) of 36, had 2 plugs that couldn't blow a note if they had to and a few others that never played a horn before, could only "join in" during certain parts of the book. We still took 15th in WC (fka: Div 1, fka:Open Class fka: Class A) and had a blast!
BTW...why do they keep changing the class divisions names? What's next... Interplanetary?

Correction: MRE = Meals Regurgitated by Everyone
Meals Rejected by Ethiopia
Maalox Rolaids and ExLax
Trust me, I've had to eat to #@$! many of them.
Least favorite by far was the pressed ham and chicken loaf. I was the recipient of that unlucky draw more times than I can remember.

I love these kind of threads. I missed so many years being overseas and/or just being out of the loop that I have no idea what to look for when I go to Fan Network.
I can "leach" off other peoples favorites and give them a try on the F N.

another of my fav funny parts: breaking on "chicken and a roll"....SAD
also, ANY part involving the basses makes me what to SCREAM.... i HAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEE their "technique" and that whole "I LOOOOOVVVEEEE MY DRUM!!!" ########!!!
Don't forget that when you challenge another bass drummer for their spot, to do it with choreography.

Just shows how great they are !!!!
< insert rimshot HERE >
They really are that good!!! and plus, you can tell buy the expressions on Nick Cannon's face that he's throwin' down some serious @$#* They can play "corps style" too!!!
Gotta love that geeked out version of "in The Stone"
Yeah, I watched it, because my mom sent me the dvd a few years back for Christmas, Love ya Mom, but seriously, don't do that again.

BD also went undefeated in Brass in 1982.
You beat me to it, nobody touched them that year, WOW!

I just tried to upgrade ($59.00 plus upgrade to $90.00 SD Premium) the difference should be $39.00 but the checkout is charging the full $90.00. Am I doing something wrong??? and yes, I am logged in.
Thanks,
Don

except amped pits aren't getting smaller. they are getting bigger
...and there have been a couple corps whose horn players have wandered to the mic'd area and whooops!, we accidentally amped our horn players....yeah, didn't see that one coming.

Just wondering which of your favorite lovable Cadets characters you'd love to see run-through by our mates in Rockford! Enjoy the topic! .....and for God sakes, please have a sense of humor!
So may good ones to choose, but gotta go with the kid who got his ### beat in high school.

On the Fan Network, BD is on the field doing run throughs, although there is no audio feed, the video is pretty interesting watching them rehearse. Not sure if it's intentional, but the video is on.
-
If this is the case perhaps we should see the actual credentials of said people to determine how much weight their opinion should carry in said discussion. If these folks with recent marching experience are every bit as good as the BD kids, then with the superior design of their shows and their superior talent shouldn't they be winning?
How much is a "credential" worth? what constitutes a credential? Do I have one? Is one enough? What does a credential entitle me to? How many do you have? Did you get more credentials for marching in 1982 than the other years? because that was a better year. This credential thing is very interesting.

I'm pretty sure Cavies played it, too.
Edit: Oops, sorry, Dir_en_X beat me to it with a complete list!
That's OK Sue, I mixed up the Guardsmen's "Tiger of San Pedro" with "Children of Sanchez"....
But I knew it was the "Something" of "Somewhere"

How many corps DID that number that year... I know Blue Stars did..
Im thinking at least 3 if my memory strikes me...
Without referring to Corpsreps or the legacy vids I'm going to say...
Guardsmen, Northstar in addition to Blue Stars.
