  1. That was a quartet and the reason the sops look so young is that they're both female! That's Lucy Chilco on the left, who went on to march with Blue Devils and taught Ventures in the mid-late 80's. Brian Menard was the contra. he marched with SCV in '80 and '81.
I was privileged to march with Lucy in both '81 and '82 BD, albeit we were in different sections!
  2. Thanks and I like your website :-) ...2 for you from a 1977 winter guard program; Barons, Milpitas, CA & Imperial Dragons, Los Angeles, CA

Wow! Where did you get that pic of the the South Bay Barons? They were actually a drum and bell corps when I competed with them. I was in the San Jose Rebel Kadets drum and bell corps. Drum and Bell corps were very popular in Northern CA and were excellent "feeder" corps for the "big guys."
  3. I'm really enjoying reading this thread and learning about the different styles. Being "raised" on the SCV/BD, (minus matched-grip), playing or attacking high was not something I ever had to do. However, after marching in a Float line, the two height "style" increased my chops by leaps and bounds. Higher attacks, lower taps and fast. It's very cool to have both Tom Float's and Ken Mazur's book's of exercises!
