Cant answer the query as there's no difference between the two activities.

Don't have a large database to draw from, but:
1. DCI Finals 1974 in my one and only tour in Anaheim Kingsmen;
2. DCI Semi-Finals 2007 with Kingsmen Alumni

I like to look through Corpsreps and its interesting to see some of the names of older corps. i understand the times were different but I wonder who much of a chance corps with certain names would attract kids today.
Albacores (San Diego)- Reminds me of Charlie the Tuna....
It didn't attract kids then - the ones who joined did so in spite of the name (I was there)....and we never got a dime from the US Tuna fleet or canneries, the Portugese community or the Italian community. A loss all around...

Here's to raising a beverage of your choice, to all of the small corps that persevered and fielded a competition corps....

Where can a body find a video of the show?

David, I have seen that posted in 6-7 different places that 1986 was the first use of all curvilinear drill. I saw the Vanguard (only) in 1974 and started following corps seriously in 1975. Both Vanguard and Blue Devils used almost exclusively curvilinear drill. ikt was goint on well before 1976.
Anaheim Kingsmen's 1974 drill was specifically designed to be curvilinear / non-linear, in part to deal with tics for alignment / cover, elbow contact, etc. As to whether it was exactly the first curvilinear show, I make no claim.

And when was this activity not visually driven?
When I saw the Bridgemen color guard and the rifles in 2007 at Pasadena, they blew me away with their precision.
LOL! Those sneaky Bridgemen, putting on blue...
I guess we didn't really make that big of an impression, huh?

..like someone said earlier, its like actors playing a role.....
Hey! Maybe they could act like its a bugle corps.....
.

Why do the designers insist on doing this?
IMHO, its all about pushing a world view on audiences, under the rubrik of "artistic license".

Kingsmen DVD was available at the xkingsmen website, probably still is....

Wow - I'm so sorry to hear that another great bugle corps has left the field.
I wish I could have seen you all in your glory.

1) Limitation: No idea how well the mics of the 50s/60s picked up the sound (let alone the tone) of corps.
Absolutely - the old recordings don't do justice to the corps (the older the recording the worse). Someone with the skills (and access to folks with firsthand corps knowledge) would do a great service by altering the old recordings to make them true to pitch, correct tempo, and removing extraneous noises, etc.
The reason that bugle corps existed and prospered for 60+ years (so that the activity could be hijacked by bandos) was that it produced exciting music that the general public appreciated.

... they went to G-D bugles, one piston valve.
They then went to Piston/Slide. The Piston set the bugle to F (what everyone would think of as 1st valve) and the left hand pulled out a slide for the F-Sharp, what would be the second valve.
G-D bugles, we pulled a slide to get half-tones. Piston - left thumb, slide - right hand. (1965-67, SoCal)
Then came G-F horns, which came with rotary valves (rotaries were probably also available on G-Ds but I lack personal knowledge...cue Ken Norman)
So with the G-F rotaries, we switched hands, piston - right thumb, rotary - left index finger.
For my money, Olds Ultratone G-F P/R horns have not been surpassed (acknowledging "built to a price")
...which is part of "why" I played a Duratone bari in Kingsmen Alumni....

.....BUT To see 27th out there with the LARGEST DRUM CORPS TO EVER PERFORM....
I'm not sure we have all the facts to determine who is/was "the LARGEST DRUM CORPS TO EVER PERFORM"....
But, just to keep the record a little straight....
...according to the beanman site, 27th Alumni marched 286 dedicated people....
....Kingsmen Alumni marched.....wait for it.....286 dedicated people.....

I have appreciated all of the alumni corps shows heretofore, and despite being a partisan (Kingsmen), prefer to just enjoy everyone's efforts.
....now, if someone were to propose a judged alumni corps contest, that would be a slightly different matter....I wonder - what size crowd it would attract??

Anaheim Kingsmen - What's not to love here? IMHO, a PERFECT uniform!
Nice pic - but the blue didn't come out true....

Here's a lovely thought -- I bet the guard has to practice with those shako's on *all* the time. Now *that* would suck.
Dunno about what the Cadets do, but generally, no - you don't need to wear the shako to practice....

Belleville is #####in'....really, any of the military-inspired uniforms is great...and

You wouldn't want to add the 2008 CAC performance to this list, would you?
Yep - add the Cavies Alumni to the "A" list....

Are we talking color guards or dance troupes?
Colorguards? Anaheim Kingsmen
dance troupes? Riverdance....

2009 Anaheim Kingsmen Alumni Corps Mambo (from West Side Story) Bernstein, Leonard
2009 Anaheim Kingsmen Alumni Corps Somewhere (from West Side Story) Bernstein, Leonard
More correctly, 2009 was the Anaheim Kingsmen All-Age Corps, not KAC....

Of the original 13 who perished, Blessed Sac, Kingsmen, DeLaSalle, Blue Rock, et al, never made it out of the mid-70s.
Kingsmen fielded a corps up through 1988.
