The guy in the shades is 67 lead sop Peter Aguayo (spelling is probably way off).
RON HOUSLEY
67 Kingsmen
..etc...
Spellings OK....I found Pete before our 2007 Rose Bowl gig....dunno if he watched it, tho. Three in his family were Kingsmen, starting in Troop 72...

Tom Float......1973 Diplomats............In 72-74, Tom marched and aged out in the Kingsmen with Ralph Hardimon
Tom was obviously in the Dips in 1971...

A photo I took of Ron Cain wearing my sunglasses; Anaheim in 74? Oakland 75?
Previously, Seattle Imperials.
Anaheim Kingsmen '73, '74. Played the solo in So Very Hard To Go.
Oakland 75? He was horn line tech for Alberta Girls winter 76-77, played soprano and when he played the flugelhorn, the sound was sweet.I thought he went to Alberta in '75....there is a photo of him and several Kmen in 1975 in Alberta....
I wouldn't be surprised if he shows up here eventually, and sets this straight....

Ok, let me ask this. Would you take a great sounding G line over a great sounding Bb line?
Yes.

Wayne Harris marched baritone with Anaheim Kingsmen in 72.
Yes, and '73 and '74 as well....

Has anyone noticed that throughout this entire thread the one repeating style has been the Cadet Style? Many different corps mentioned over a dozen by my count from the Queensmen to Royal Aires and Garfield, Anaheim Kingsmen. Mostly only the color scheme changed.
Just an observation.
Puppet
Yeah - that's 'cause cadets were classic uniforms before bugle corps existed.....

I respect the MOST ---- those members from the days when corps were locally-based, who WORKED ALL YEAR raising money, sold tickets, had bake sales, worked rummage sales, worked on the buses or equipment trucks, maintained equipment, sewed uniforms, marched parades, played in public functions, recruited new members, taught newbies on their own time, etc etc.....as well as learning and executing their parts.
Many of them were probably in small-/medium-size corps that some old-timers only faintly recognize (if at all), and Bb'ers never even heard about.....but they were the salt of the earth and the heart and soul of bugle corps.
My hat's off to those folks, and I bet they came away from corps with many serious life lessons that made them better and more successful people.
I also respect members of corps who fought to make the field againt the odds - BAC in the late 70's, 1975 Kingsmen, and Velvet Knights in the '70s....just to name a very few.
I've said before, that if I was in charge of the world, every corps member from a small corps would get their chance to march in the big time....
I'm grateful I had that chance....

Sorry, I got my wires crossed - Kingsmen were evaluated by DCI, not DCA.
-
I don't think they are... in fact, I don't think they even went through an evaluation this spring, so they technically aren't a DCA corps...
EDITED: Kingsmen were evaluated by DCI, not DCA.

Kmen were not on the feed....smaller than 30 bodies and they got let on the field? This must be a change from last year, because without 30 bodies, DCI-P wouldn't even consider En Garde.
Dunno about the rules, but if I understand correctly, Kmen Saturday had 28 members = exhibition only. Sunday was 30 members = competition.

Thank you, Baja, for posting a great collection of pics from a golden era of bugle corps.

Oh I don't know...I've lost some #### hard bouts!
Your son still at Saul's??
But of course.....along with a Latvian Fencing Master and Argentinian Fencing Master, and the No Fear crew...

....BUT, there is no accounting for the logic and action of a 25 year old.
What? Does YEA produce immature 25 yo's??
Some people have conquered the world by then....

We have no such term in fencing that I know of.
The only thing "nice and easy" in fencing, is losing....

They're not part of the show, much as they would like to be.
Its probably just a matter of time until something similar (but scripted) will be legalized as "part of the show"....

Because of the omission of that "s" on an info sheet once, my group was actually announced at a parade as "The New Orleans Drum Corporation".
I once heard a parade announcer ID us as a drum corpse...
....the illiterate/ignorant don't know how to handle the S either...

Good information for everyone to absorb, thank you for preparing this.
Say, Doc - what corps did you march in? :)

What was 72 Kingsmen, 73 SCV, 75 Muchachos, 75 Madison, 76 BD, 81 27th, 83 Cadets, and 86 BD's show title?
Oh yea - it was before corps had a single theme - aka "show" name going.
Oh, they had themes all right.
They ran on a common theme:
"We're gonna get in your face, kick your @#$, and make you like it".

Oh, yeah - THAT says bugle corps to me....
Here's one of the 1980 Defenders -
How many of you would support, and be excited for, an all new 2 valve/piston-rotor ONLY competitive drum and bugle corps that uses a minimal front ensemble and performs entertaining music?
Heck yeah - sounds like a bugle corps...
.

Is there a bad picture of this corps . . . anywhere? If so, I have yet to see it.
Sounds like a new thread, "Corps that didn't take bad pictures"....there were many....

Yeah! Check out the chicks toting tymps...
Capitolaires 1976 -
Ahhh.....I think the Kingsmen Alumni Corps marched 124 horns with around 25 Contras, All G bugles.
I bet that was loud.
-G
141 horns on semi-finals night (a few Bb's in there)
http://www.coloneljake.com/BAM1BAM/AK2007/
On topic - 80 horns is good....
