This is unrelated to the performances, but does anyone know what happened to the field? That grass always looks perfect or close to it and it looks like they had a bunch of it actually die.

I was at the show with my brother who lives here in Denver. He said the yellowed grass was likely due to the professional lacrosse team that plays there (the Outlaws, maybe?)

  2. Yes, the miced solos are not needed in BK's show. Good players too, so I felt bad for them that what we heard was bleeps, blips, and hickups. So sad.

It's funny, because when the mic started cutting out I wondered -- given the out-there nature of the show -- if it wasn't intentional, and supposed to sound space-aged. At least that's what I'd be telling the judges in critique...

  3. I would guess it's to limit exposure to error. If the voice is recorded, that's one less thing that can be affected by fatigue, sickness, etc. The recorded voice is going to be the same every time. Plus, most of the time I've heard singing in drum corps, it's been somewhere between terrible and decent, but never great. Use a recorded voice and you can get exactly what you want, evey time.

    That's my guess, at least.

  4. Yeah Mike, I saw the list, and am more than a little shocked to discover that in addition to being asked to leave my case of Coors and large cheese and sausage pizza in the car, I'm not even allowed to enter the stadium with a pack of Marlboro Menthols in my pocket.

    Are they serious???

Don't touch my junk, man.

Not only that, but you might not even be able to buy it. As explained in this article, the govenment shutdown might result in MillerCoors having to pull its products off the shelves in Minnesota.

  5. Unfortunate that some corps only get this opportunity maybe once in a season, if at all. Unfortunate for the corps and the fans.

To me, this raises an intriguing question: if you're a corps that will be doing a bunch of encores (say, 6 or more), should you spend more time preparing encore pieces than a corps that knows it will only be doing 1 or 2? I don't really have the answer, but I can see where a corps that isn't performing many encores might think that sacrificing the rehearsal time isn't worth it.

That said, I love when a corps has taken the time to put together their encore. It shows me that they're legitimately interested in entertaining the audience.
