  1. Or at least confusion. ... Did DCI say they'd look into the issue for you?

They weren't confused. They were very certain they were going to make me pay to get back in. ;-) I politely told them that I was sure that there was some confusion and that there was no DCI no-reentry policy, and asked if I could go to my car to get a cushion and some Advil to be more comfortable after my long drive. They wanted their $. In their quick and courteous email reply to me, DCI said they would contact the local chair whoever that is.

  2. But other than that (and that's not small) did you enjoy the show? Would you go back?

I did not enjoy the show after intermission. Not only was I uncomfortable because I needed another chair cushion and my Advil, I was totally p.o.'ed and disgusted. As a matter of principle I wasn't going to pay for another ticket plus the $3 DCI surcharge just to get something out of my car because I had already paid $25 for my ticket plus a $3 DCI surcharge. I put $ in the corps' gas cans instead. No, I won't go back to Van Buren. I'll continue to go to the Broken Arrow, OK show where they treat their guests with hospitality and respect.

  3. I don't know...If they had the ca hones to post the rule, I can see them trying to enforce it.

Nothing was posted. My ticket stub did not say "no-reentry". Almost every high school stadium has a no-reentry policy for their Friday night high school games, so almost every high school stadium has a permanent no-reentry sign by the entrance, as did Van Buren. But in the decades of attending high school marching band contests and DCI events at those high school stadiums, I've never seen a no-reentry policy enforced. So there was NO fair warning at Van Buren. They should have had a sign at the ticket table and at the entrance that clearly said, "DCI GUESTS: NO REENTRY". They have to make the $ any way they can I guess.

  4. OP, I trust you've voiced your concerns directly to DCI by now, and that you're just venting on DCP, right?

I just now saw an email I got back from DCI. They confirmed there is no DCI policy requiring you to repay if you leave the stadium. They said in fact they want people to enjoy the social experience of going to hear warmups, etc. so there should be handstamps.

  5. I had a horrible experience at the Van Buren, Arkansas show after driving two hours just to get there and paying $28 to get in. At intermission I really needed to go to my car to get another seat cushion and some Advil to make myself more comfortable. But no. The event staff at the gate told me that if I left I would have to buy another ticket plus pay the $3 DCI surcharge to get back in. I told the gate Nazi that that was ridiculous and he said it was DCI policy.

I went to find two other event staff and asked if there was a problem for me to go to my car to get some medication. They both told me that it was DCI policy from the "upper ups" that I would have to pay to get back in. I told them I would never be attending their show again. I've faithfully attended their show for 4 years, buying the highest priced tickets, concessions, merchandise, and donating $ to the corps for gas. Is that how they treat their guests?

  6. Broken Arrow, OK

    [snip]

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 96. Heat index values as high as 106. South southwest wind between 7 and 13 mph.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 78. South wind between 7 and 11 mph.

The temperature at show time last night in Edmond actually wasn't all that bad. Both Broken Arrow and the Edmond stadium face east so the sun isn't on you. A night breeze cooled things off last night.

  7. thats sounded terrible....TERRIBLE!!! I don't care the arrangement at all and the shenanigans was just the icing on the cake.

What happend was awful, but completely dumping mass brass wasn't the best answer.

I missed the memo too but just found the 'tube video. OMG that was disrespectful and totally bad taste. Whoever did that should be ashamed.

I saw Crown in Van Buren, Arkansas and came away a believer! I am hoping for Crown to win! Santa Clara made me cry at the same show. I love them always so that would be great if they won. I thought both Crown's and SCV's shows had that ethereal "magic". I saw BD in Broken Arrow and love their music but will yawn if/when they win. I'm thinking they are so good they make their show look too easy. Of course if Holy Crap 1100 BPM Cadets win that would be cool on their 75th anniversary. I'm easy to please aren't I?

  9. Tuesday marks the 4th straight heat alert day for the Tulsa area http://www.newson6.com/global/story.asp?s=10721788

Heat index will be from 103-110 weatherman is saying. At 6p, an hour before showtime, the temp (without heat index) is forcast to be 104.

I'll be coming from an hour away for the show tonight. Family going with me are starting to tell me they won't be disappointed if I decide not to go because of the heat. Does anyone think they will delay the show because of the heat? A few years ago at a Pittsburg, KS show they delayed the show for 1 hr because of the heat.

  10. Has there been a historical problem with corps completing the first nine minutes of their show and then quitting and walking off the field? I have to wonder this, because it seems at every show some staff member screams "FINISH IT!!!" before the last few minutes of their corps' performance.

yes MN DCI Fan, I understand that it used to be a very big problem until they started having staff to remind them DURING the performance to finish the show.

Crap, I missed the first half of SCV, my sentimental favs. I used to live there.

  11. This is her age-out year and they move their tour west! Would've been nice for us if they were marching Broken Arrow and Van Buren! We are going to the Dallas show and Finals in August. Pretty excited about that!

Blooomom, a friend of mine in CA has seen them four times this year in CA and loved their show. Says the second half rocks. He's the one that gave me my Bluecoats t-shirt. Sent me a Bluecoats double CD this year. Bloooooooooooooooo!

  13. Just a short true story to fill intermission time...

A friend of mine ordered a birthday cake from Walmart. She told the bakery to write Happy Birthday then underneath that put Mary is 40!. When she went to pick up the cake it read "Happy Birthday then underneath that put Mary is 40!".

  14. Hey fellow okie! I'm from Poteau, Ok. Have a daughter in Bluecoats!

That is so exciting Bloomom! I always wear a my Bluecoats tshirt when I see them and I love yelling "BLUEEEEEEE!". I won't get to see them this year live though. I'm going to the Broken Arrow, OK and Van Buren, Arkansas shows.
