  1. Thx for your replies but http://www.rosebowlstadium.com/seating.htm shows the 50-yd line smack dab in the middle of section 18. http://pasadena07.dci.org/super3/ shows the 50-yd line dividing sections 18 & 19.

Nevermind, I'm overly analyzing the little blue lines on the first map lol. I just don't want to plan a trip to Pasadena and then get crappy seats where I don't really see the shows. Would rather, dare I say, watch QF in a theater and SF on SP than be at the shows and not really see/hear what is happening.

  2. I'm trying to compare the seating chart on the DCI site: http://pasadena07.dci.org/super3/

with a seating chart of the stadium: http://www.rosebowlstadium.com/seating.htm

On the stadium map it looks like the 50 yard line goes up between sections 4 & 5, but on the dci seating chart it looks like it splits a couple of sections.

If I didn't want to be outside of the 30-yd line it looks like I would want to sit in the blue section correct? If you sat in the green section you could concievable be sitting over the 0-yrd line if you were at the top correction?

Thx in advance for any help. I went to San Antonio regionals last year and had seats above the 20-yd line. It really wasn't worth the trip because it didn't seem like I really saw/heard the shows. Just wanting to make sure I was reading the seating maps correctly for Pasadena.

  3. The Tulsa show went ok,

    [snip]

Overall, I was impressed with the whole broadcast.

I agree, Tulsa's show went okay. They didn't get the video working until 5:30p. It went out for most of someone else's show before intermission and part of the next corp. I know some people went to get refunds then. It went out during Cadets closing and part of someone else's.

All of the commotion during the "evacuate the building" message and the strobe lights kinda ruined Bluecoats but it was kinda funny that 99% of the crowd's attitude (including mine) was "hey, if they want us out of here they will have to haul us out."

The audio was okay. Wished it would have gotten louder during the loud parts though. I thanked the manager for having the show when I left.

  4. I just got my tickets! Taking a friend who hasn't seen a competition in twenty years but now he's an elementary music teacher. Who else will be there?

It starts at 5p. Any tips on how early to get there to get good seats? Or anything about the venue. I see movies there all the time but wondering if it will be full screen. I've heard horror stories about volume etc and this is the first time for this theater.

John "I'll be wearing my BD 'The Godfather' tshirt!"

When I started this thread it was titled "Tulsa 8/10 - QF Cinecast". Now that it is a catch-all thread, just want to make it clear, I'll be there in Tulsa! Who else?

  5. Carolina Crown pulls out the biggest plumes yet, bigger than anything seen before in DCI. The feathers wafting in the breeze cause the entire stadium to fall into a trance, and it brings their performance to a screeching halt as all eyes, even the corps', are glued to the plumes.

lmao. I almost blew beer out my nose on that one! too funny

  6. I'll be able to watch the simulcast this year and I was wondering what you get to see and hear. Is there a "host" that gives pre- and post-performance commentary for each corps or do you see raw feed? Do you get to hear the scores being announced between performances, displayed with graphics on the screen when they're announced or are theatergoers left to guess?

Scores are announced after each corp performs, complete with graphics, until the final corp of the evening. Then all of the scores are magically slotted and after a weird "Wayne's World" "Bl-bl-bl-bllllllll! Bl-bl-bl-bl-bllll! -- hand wave" deal they announce the FINAL final scores. Recaps follow.

  7. I love you all! SCV, you are my sentimental favs and will always have magic pants somewhere up your sleeves and ALWAYS have total class. BD you are the corp that was "too sophisticated" for me at first that I finally appreciated and now you are my favorite. Cavies, you guys OMG. Cadets, don't get me started. BLUEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! Coats! Up and coming Champs! BLUEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

A great show to all! I love you all!

  8. bearz, I'm in the same boat. I'm taking a relative newbie to see the QF Cinecast. I've prepped him by letting him use my Season Pass password this past week to watch videos of Allentown, PA this past week. I'm quite excited. My friend is a new elementary music teacher in one of the best h.s. marching band districts in the nation (Broken Arrow, OK).

As most are saying, just let your guest experience it for themselves. A show review by your guest would be wonderful to see.

  9. I think tie-breakers stink. If the top two (or three?) corps end up with the same score at Finals, they are both deserving of the title.

If I were a member of the corps that lost the tie-breaker, I'd still buy myself a ring. I really think the BOD voted to put in a tie breaker after the fans pitched a fit after 99 and 00.

Just an FYI... Prior to '96, the tie-breaker was the corps with the highest GE score... which would have been PR that year.

I liked the idea of GE being the tie breaker.

  10. Let me put it like this... if you were the corps who lost the tie breaker how would you feel?

Look at it this way. If you were part of the tie-breaking captions that broke the tie to get the trophy (percussion or cg for example) then you would feel really good! Ties suck any way around. The judging is subjective anyway so might as well come out with one winner.

  11. I'll be in Madison but I'm glad to see there's a drum corps community alive and kicking along the Bend in the Arkansas - I marched in the old (OLD) Young Tulsan's drum corps back in the early 70's and have always wished such a lively, dynamic metropolitan area could get at least one corps together - now if something starts in Kansas and you include Texas, maybe, just maybe there may come a Great Plains Revival.

I'm a TU graduate (1980) and went to Tulsa Central.

    Go get 'em, Okies!

    regards - Jim

Jim, when I was in high school several of my friends and I traveled to Tulsa once a week to play with a group called Young Tulsans ('79 and '80 prolly). By then it was a concert band only however, the only local outlet for us outside of our school. I didn't know they had a drum corp previously. I forget the director's name.

  12. I HOPE to go. Do you think it will be crowded? I don't think I can make it there by 5 (my daughter's corp is on later, so I will be ok).

    Betsy

Hi Betsy. I have absolutely NO idea what to expect. It's a first time for this theater. Give me some idea on how to recognize you and I'll be sure to say hi. What corp does your daughter perform with? If she's with SCV I know EXACTLY when to yell "SCV" during their performance (saw the video tutorial a few days ago lol). If she's with Bluecoats I will be Blooing as soon as they hit the screen.

    John

  13. Haha, I didn't realize people were traveling so far for a movie theater. If you are traveling hundreds of miles to go see the broadcast-- do be wary. But I was under the impression that there were movie theaters spread out to most parts of the country so people wouldn't need to travel such great distances. I mean, there are four movie theaters playing it within 45 minutes of my from my house, and it's not like Virginia is big Drum Corps country.

Last year my closest theater was 154 miles away. The next closest was 229 miles away. This year it's only 51 :-)

  14. That's... very discouraging. If you're not able to travel the long distance to Madison this theater broadcast is the best that we can do. It's very kind of DCI to even offer this kind of treatment for us-- they're trying their best so that everybody can see the drum corps they love even if they're all the way on the other side of the country. And there you go, squashing everyone's hopes. Before criticizing the malfunctions in DCI's broadcasting equipment, reconsider the fact that they could just not have any of this and keep it so you need to travel thousands of miles to see these shows.

Before criticizing me consider the fact that people have traveled hundreds of miles to a movie theater to see the broadcast and didn't get to see it. As I said, it's still experimental so don't get your hopes up.

I realize DCI is doing their best and I think it's great. Over the years the kinks will get worked out so chill out Gil. But if you can't travel to Madison, don't travel hundreds of miles to your nearest broadcast theater expecting to see the show because you might not.

  15. The QF theater broadcasts are still experimental, as are the Season Pass broadcasts.

For example, some theaters show the broadcast small screen like in an intimate seminar. Others don't know how to set the volume, so they have their sound system set up to AUTOMATICALLY lower the sound if there is a sudden surge of volume. Not good!

Also the theater may not even get the satellite signal. A friend of mine in CA went to the QF broadcast last year but the signal was so bad after it started they cancelled it.

I joined Season Pass because it advertised San Antonio regionals were being broadcast. Because of a power outage in CA most of the broadcast wasn't shown. It's a crap shoot. What year was it when at one show they had their cameras and broadcast equipment on one side of the field when actually the corps performed towards the other side so a broadcast was cancelled?

  16. hey wickerbill. Let me know how I can recognize you and your lady and I'll have to say hi. I just read your profile and you are OSU? I was "Pride of Oklahoma" OU mellophone for three years but we can let any differences slide for one night :-) OU just got their cocky little troublemaking snotty quarterback kicked of the team (and his starter roomate) so I'll have to roll with those punches. Good for Stoops!
