Based on show times, this should be a very telling competition right before San Antonio.

"Criminal" is still one of my favorite shows ever.

Heck of a first post Bearckat. Welcome to DCP, I hope your Bluecoats do well this year.
BTW, would you mind filling out your profile information as to when you marched, and who you marched with? Thanks!

So why no Timpani this year for Madison? Have there been other corps who didnt use Timpani?
Again, I wish I had thought to ask Lee about this. I will say that from a writing stand point, I did not miss them.

There have been many many snare lines with slings & perfectly flat drums. 1977 & 1978.
I think this started with SCV around 1974. Madison went to that in 1975.
-
I grew up in the sling era, so they all have a tilt.
-
Thats new for Madison.
I’m not sure if it was done for ergonomic reasons, or as part of a “throwback look” for the 75th anniversary. I didn’t think to ask Lee Beddis last weekend. I wish I would have.

A quick question for those of you who have seen the Scouts live this season: Are they tilting their snare drums this year? I've seen a couple of pictures and some of the drums looked tilted.
Yes, they have a slight tilt. Personally, I like the look, always have.

geez. so this is dcp
In all its glory...

I remember hearing that doing something along the lines of taking a picture, would get a penalty these days. I'm not sure if that's true. If someone has better info on that, please post it.

"Throwing Babies" The act of freeing up one's hands to be able to clap them together at a drum corps show.

Let it fly tonight brothers!

I'm glad you brought that up. I saw the bass drum heads from the first row at the Lisle, IL. Cavies show & I wondered the same thing. Each drum head is painted differently with what looks like American Indian style designs, shapes, & things that appear to be possibly related to nature.
Anyone?
I've been told that the paintings are a representation of a painting of Malaga, Spain, by Picasso. He is from Malaga.

I don't think he has a problem with the corps proper - mostly just certain Scouts fans on DCP. I "may" have fueled that fire the last couple of years But He's mostly just trying to get a rise out of us Scouts fanatics. It's all good. No real harm done... It's just the internet!
I employed the "block" feature a few years ago. It's works wonderfully, except when you quote him. Then my eyes burn.

There are so many Blue Stars alums in the Twin Cities area. Every one of them that I have met, have been very nice, classy, drum corps fans. I just don’t get it with that dude. Something is driving the angst.

The general sentiment of this thread changes with the scores. If the Scouts were 2 points higher, I believe the comments would be much different. I'm not going to let some judge effect how I "feel" about the show. I think Robert W. Smith is a fantastic arranger. He has skillfully done what was asked of him. Just like last year, the crowd responds emotionally with the thunderous ovation because he craftily designs musical sweep into the show. I ask, "Why do the crowds go nuts for the Scouts?" They are great performers of great shows that are accessible to the public. I'd rather feel that way than to scratch my head in wonderment over some amazingly technical clinic with abstract music that seems like an excercise in self-indulgence by the arranger/composer.
Agreed!

I hope the new ending is what I think it is. If so, they stadium will go nuts!

Can't wait for this one:

I think he just asked about those two corps because it is well known that they have their roots in scouting. I didn't read anything more into the inquiry.

Until recently, I don't think that the music community, as a whole, has encouraged young ladies to become battery players. Front ensembles have been much more even, or even female dominated in some cases. For some reason it took awhile for those percussionist to become battery players. I glad too see a more equal footing for the young women that are playing battery percussion now.
We will know we are really making progress when there is no longer a need for this type of observation.

I finally had the opportunity to see the Blue Stars show in Minneapolis. They have a very nice show this year and did a great job. As others have mentioned, the drill is very demanding. There is a lot of top end available as they continue to clean it.
I am so glad to see the Blue Stars having continued success in World Class. Go Wisconsin Drum Corps!

I just wanted to pop into this thread and say how much I liked SCV's show in Minneapolis. They, along with the Scouts, Bloo, Boston, and the Govies, were the highlight of the show for me. Thank you SCV for entertaining the crowd!

Wow, top three in a 0.4 spread. THAT would be exciting going into Saturday.
