Awesome pics.

Paul Hinman and Albert Lo happened.
Ding ding ding ding. We have a winner.
'Coats hornline probably did peak at Qarterfinals. They weren't as tight the next two nights and Crown and SCV turned on the heat.

Wow! Incredibly awesome!
Thanks for reminding me why I do this!

this topic has been discussed in other threads, but here's the link to a news article.

Awesome. Where's the "misty eyed" smiley on here?

Mucho congrats! Now go do the same in Div II next year!

Brilliant show. Incredibly beautiful, poignant and appropriate tribute to Blue Devils history and fitting that it should be on your anniversary AND that finals were in Cali!
I believe......... this was one of Wayne Downey's greatest masterpieces in brass arranging.

It was incredible. I sat down at the rail with my son and we proceeded to have our faces blown off. Classic 2nd run-through for the Blue Devils. You know, once you take all the pressure off of competing, you get to hear the show how the audience really wants to hear the show-loud and proud! You made this alum very happy! ^OO^
And some say Bb hornlines aren't as loud as the glorious G's! Go figure.
I wish I could have been there for it. Sounds like it was an incredible night for drum corps, especially California fans who waited so long to have championships out there. I'm glad DCI finally did it. Regret not being able to go there myself.

Crown, yours was my favorite show of the year by far and it's now one of my top 10 all time favorite drum corps shows ever. Your hornline is incredible and very much underrated. I would have put you in 4th overall.
Love ya Crown!

Yep, 1981 holds the record until official reports come out of the crowd attendance for 2007;
On the 1987 telecast/DVD Steve Rondinaro said attendance was around 40k or more. Was that ever confirmed? That was at Cramp Randall in Madison.
Yes, I said "Cramp".

2007 Finals crowd went waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay past the edge of the end zones on both sides. Considering the "bowl" shape of this stadium, and the fact that it holds over 100,000 (?) total, I'd say this was probably the largest DCI Finals crowd ever! ^OO^
Watching online, It looked like semifinals attendance at the Rose Bowl was as large as last years finals in Madison. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Saturday nights attendance was at or past DCI's record finals attendance.
-
Oh, and the audience was much better behaved tonight than last night. :P
-
I gotta say this was a different Cadets than last night at quarters. These kids were on fire and determined. Not my favorite show but I have to say...
-
Crown's narration is god awful
I'm o.k. with it... and Bluecoats stuff. Not too crazy about the other corps that's using narration this year.
-
CROWN! Biggest crown response of the night next to SCV.
I just wish the camera had stayed on the rifles during the trumpet call! Will someone please tell the producers? Someone get out to that T.V. truck in the lot and tell them. Thanks! :P

I think Crown is the pick, but other corps could sneak in, like Phantom or Colts.
Your thoughts?
Crown
Teal Sound
Dutch Boy

Bump. . .to know if the member/s are okay that fell?
I saw it on the big screen last night as well and could tell he was pretty shook up. Glad to hear he's o.k.

No, DCI isn't dying.

Do you ever find yourself trying to tune the line and you come upon guys that are still flat with tuning slide pushed all the way in, and others are sharp when they are pulled out rediculously far?
Good answers above. Also make sure you reinforce the importance of air. If you're not doing a lot of breathing exercises in warm-up, I suggest you start now. This will help tuning immensely as well as overall tone quality. Another thing to consider is the type of mouthpiece the players are using. A different one could quickly solve the problem.

Though I thought the situation could have been handled differently, I totally agree with the original post. My new signature says it all.

My new signature says it all.

Crown, BD. Vanguard, Phantom!!!
It's a toss up!
That's what I'm thinking.

I had the unparalled thrill and honor of announcing yesterday for the first time ever for Drum Corps International at the Division II/III Preliminary Competition at Pasadena City College. It was a great day. So many great performances, so many dedicated volunteers, so many photographers and videographers, so many news crews and video cameras...it was great. A TOP NOTCH judging panel of some of the best in the business was on hand to adjudicate. The show was SMOOTH AS ICE, with not one hiccup. On time...signed, sealed and delivered.
But you know what was missing?
YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For all of you that are Division I diehards, and wouldn't think of ever going to a Division II/III competition much less go to the Division II/III Forum here on DCP, allow me to be that "bridge" if you will. I HIGHLY suggest you scrape together an extra $10 and make the trek to Pasadena City College on Friday. Division II/III semi's will occur before Division I semi's--you'll have plenty of time to get from PCC to the Rose Bowl. And here's what you're going to get if you come out to Division II/III semi's....
- UNBELIEVABLE level of performance...these corps are HERE TO PLAY and they are battling to make Grand Finals...you think Division I is exciting--you should be here Friday! If TUESDAY was any indication--yikes. I think Division II/III is going to kick it up a notch or forty on Friday!
- GREAT STADIUM!! It may not be the highest in the world, but it certainly is intimate--and you REALLY get to see what's going on out on the field! Not just hear the sound and see the drill--but watch the KIDS!! WOW!!! What intensity!!
- Great parking!!! Multi-storied parking structure VERY easy to get to the stadium. About 100 yds IF THAT away.
I can't think of anymore important reason though than to share your love of drum corps with the "up and coming" kids in this activity. I'll be brutally honest. Last year, in Madison, with VERY few exceptions, I was bored silly at Division II/III. But not this year. Something got into the water supply of these corps, and they are all across the board some of the best Division II/III I have EVER seen. MUSICAL, LOUD, INTENSE...oh yeah...that's what drum corps is!!!
So if you REALLY want to get overloaded on drum corps, see you on Friday at Pasadena City College. You will NOT be disappointed. And for a second--think what it's like to perform for a stadium FULL of people that are roaring for you. What's the worth?
For me--$10 for a ticket to help make that happen!
ROCK ON and see you Friday!!
Great post. Thanks, Ryan. Wish I could be in Cali right now.

I can see by looking at the map of Div II/III corps housing sites that DCI has been kind enough to allow the smaller corps to have housing closer to the contest venues than the Div I corps. I think that's a very kind gesture.

Cavaliers=sex symbols????

Since you're talking about marching and playing techniques my answer is most definitely "no".
