  1. Explain please? I was out of the DCA scene then, what happened??

    Short version:

As defending champions, we went on last. According to an actual audio tape of the judges discussion, they thought we were at least 10 points better than the 2nd place corps. They had already scored them a 95. Hence, the 105. Some say it was a mockery of the judging system. We take pride in that performance, and realize the score was kind of silly for the judges to give us. Believe me, we took plenty of ridicule over it!

However,we laid down a show that night and, regardless of the score, deserved the victory.

  2. Many thanks for all the input from everyone ... something for me to tinker with while riding out the storm here in CT tomorrow ... just stocked up on my emergency supply of wine and cheese ... Giants vs. Jets at 2:00 today ... wedding tonight ... drive home in the pre-storm ... hope power stays on tomorrow so I can check the TV connection out ...

    :music:

    DUH! Misread the first question.

  3. So ... now another dumb question ... how do I switch my video output on my laptop to the HDMI port?

    Sorry ...

Not sure what you have, but I'll tell you what I have and see if it matches.

My laptop has a VGA output. TV has HDMI input. Best Buy sells an adapter, VGA to HDMI, that you plug into your laptop. Then, plug the HDMI cable into it and connect to TV. Both parts cost around $50 total. Was well worth it!

    Hope this helps!

  4. Let me start by saying I am NOT going to argue the electronics issue. That ship has sailed. Nor am I banging on the kids.

However, I found Teal's use of the electric bass, violin and EWI MORE than a bit distracting and somewhat overbearing. While some may find it innovative, creative, even "cutting edge", I did not.

The corps has a wonderful horn line and some nice visuals. The front ensemble took me out of the show for a large segment. I appreciate everything the corps has gone through to make the field and applaud the membership for their hard work, dedication and perseverance. Best of luck this week!

  5. You can do it. I fly in from Milwaukee. Next gig is at the Walnut show July 2. Alumni picnic that afternoon. We then play the opening ceremonies for the Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa on July 15. Practices are on Sundays, with some sectionals added in there too. We are set up to accommodate out of towners, with access to online music and links to purchase all your uniform parts.

This is going to be a blast!

I'm an OTR truck driver. I can't even make the Thunderbird Alumni gigs in my hometown! Really missing it lately. Got my Kanstul Sop in the truck with me and break out a little "Elks Parade" every now and then!

  6. It's the LAST 5 DAYS of the Pepsi Refresh Project! We need to move up 5 spots to be in the top 15 and be eligible for a $25,000 grant from Pepsi! The grant money will be used to purchase much-needed refurbished horns. We are using decades old horns!

Please VOTE every day from now until Thursday by WEB and/or by TEXTING 106871 to Pepsi (73774). Ask your friends to TEXT their vote. That way they don't have to sign up on the Pepsi site. It's quick and easy! ONLY 5 DAYS LEFT! We can do this with your help!

Last evening, the Muchachos took the field in their first exhibition of the summer, and the audience really enjoyed the show! Please help us continue performing for years to come!

  8. Hey everyone,

There was a get together yesterday June 5th in the local Pittsburgh area that was something to behold for many drumcorps fans...A re-organizational meeting and massive rehearsal for any/all buglers, past and present, who want to be a part of a re-start for Steel City Ambassadors.... We always say "I just want to do this drumcorps thing "ONE MORE TIME" before we sit back and let the newbees carry on the tradition.... The call went out two weeks ago about the reorganization get together and the Pgh. drumcorps family responded with a rehearsal of apx 54/57 brass players, 15 or so percussion, and a start-up colorguard....Another apx. 15/18 brass players expressed an interest but were not able to attend the get together....Friendly smiling faces from four/five states were in attendance and the local drumcorp support was overwhelming....Past members were bringing younger family members to play with dad/mom, the SCA bus queen made an entrance with friends from Ohio, Olde Phartes (like me) came out of the woodwork to play drumcorps with friends.....What a fun time it is going to be in Pittsburgh with the start-up WOW factor that is present in the local community....I can now line off one more thing from my bucket list and really plan on enjoying this new upcoming ride...

Saw Sam Rizzi's post about this on FB. Sounds like yinz are off to a very nice start!

Like I told Sam, good luck...but most of all have FUN FUN FUN! :guinesssmilie:

  9. Other than a few of the younger members "hyping" their excitement about upcoming seasons, the Statesmen have notoriously been quiet on this forum. Never have I seen any numbers or braggadocio from the corps. I believe, though I have no inside knowledge, that it is Empire's policy to keep a low profile on DCP. We'll just have to wait until the first contest! Then, someone in the stands will do a quick count as they enter the field and all the numbers will be reported!

  10. I remember standing directly in front of him, along with most of the Empire Statesmen lead line, at the Preview of Champions Show in Scranton 1986. We were just in awe of the pure power with which "Bushman" played. I talked with the late Ted Heumann about him in the 90's. Teddy was the first one to tell me, "Oh, that was Bushman!"

We had often wondered over the years where he went. I guess when he was done with corps, he went home to Missouri.

Now he has gone home. :angel1:
