  1. I don't know why Sun Devils would have canceled camp because I heard they had over 40 at Open Houses plus returning vets etc. I know they didn't lose the rehearsal location or the equipment loaners from that high school. Only thing I heard about was some staff shakeups but not a good reason to cancel camp and leave membership in the wind.

Then again what do I know.....

If you don't know, why start rumors?

  2. OMG! I just popped in and saw this thread and thought A) it was about the musical or B) Rich was at it again! I have looked, but didn't find any details. Please, someone fill me in. What happened?

Still in utter disbelief. RIP Rich. Stomp them in heaven! :satisfied:

  3. Very sad indeed. I know that Mike, Goldie and company had their heart and soul in the corps. There must have been ZERO options, because I know these guys would have tried or done ANYTHING to keep the Crusaders going. DCA will NEVER be the same!

  5. Ah, the old Carolina Crown tale..... Hey Gene, I hope you go to the show this year to get some new stories of things you dislike. Teal Sound is still using a rock band. Most of the shows are unrecognizable, the usual. Madison kicks it tho, reminded me of Sky and Hurcs.

What about the "rock band" in the parking lot while the 'Birds were trying to warm up? Classic!

  6. Named "WMOM" by our good friend and comrade Tommy TBird (long story) my wife will be 65 tomorrow. I owe her everything I've done and been in Drum Corps' since 1963 with un-questioned support. She has been the official Videographer of the TBIRDS since the early 1990's and a strong supporter of not just the TBIRDS but of the entire Drum Corps' community.

If you get the opportunity........please wish her a Happy Birthday....at....waclawikpa@yahoo.com

    Thanks, Melligene

Dang, missed this yesterday. Had TJ's graduation party and didn't get on here all day. Will send belated b-day wishes ASAP!

  7. Why don't you send us "I'm Telling You" from Dreamgirls and we'll rehearse it here. That was always one of my favs.

Is that different from "You're Gonna Love Me" or do I have the title wrong? Jennifer Hudson blew me away with that in the movie. That is one of my all time favorites from Sky.

Wanted to do that with the Thunderbirds. Great soprano duet. Would have been fun to tag team that with Jeff.

  8. Well. other than a few homers, the requiste "Empire gets no respect" crowd and the usual mid-thread tangent, there seems to be no real arguments that Cabs have epitomized the circuit...with Reading a fairly close second. Empire is third....which should, by now, come as no surprise....

WOW! You really are anti-Statesmen. All I hear from you is blah, blah, blah, show me this, show me that. I NEVER said ES gets no respect AND did not use any of the examples given as "innovations". Look....LOOK at the shows from a visual standpoint from 1992-2002 and tell me their drill was the same ol' s##t. They did counter clockwise rotations of large sets that I NEVER saw in DCA. That is one example that comes to mind. I don't disagree with the soloist/bandbox argument you present but cut me some slack here. They HAVE been innovative in their show design and presentation. PLUS, they have represented DCA all over the world. And before you go into their finances, the MEMBERS paid for their trips, not the corps.

I merely offered a point of view that they not be overlooked for their contributions to DCA. And to your "comment" about them being 3rd.....How many titles have YOU won?

  9. When you say "Constantly pushing the envelope in design and innovation"....you're talking about Empire?? And nobody is dismissing Empire...they came in third.

Yes. Not going to get into a peeing match with you, but go back and look at their shows through the years. They did a lot of things that no one in DCA had done before. (But many since)

My statements were merely as a reply to the "they've only been around since 1983" argument.

Just food for thought. As I said, not trying to argue AGAINST the Cabs. Their record speaks for themselves.

  10. I can't really argue against the Cabs, but let me also put this out there.

The Empire Statesmen have a pretty good track record.

    Top 4 since 1988

    83-87 consistently improved, never backslid

Numerous titles (too lazy to look it up)

Constantly pushing the envelope in design and innovation

I don't think it fair to so easily dismiss this type of achievement. AND, if you concede that, as earlier stated, it's not when they joined DCA but since the INCEPTION of DCA. it's interesting to ponder!

  11. WHAT?????? There is no way to forget those corps... you are asking too much. Especially Blousemen!!!!

Fran has been staring at those bad shirts for way too long. Forget Blouse? That's the problem with DCA....they want EVERYONE to forget the "Big B"!

I also voted a close 2nd for the infamous Nacho Cheesemen.

PV doesn't even rate Dishonorable Mention. Sissies.
