  1. Tommy.....I hope you dont think I was bashing Cru. I became a fan 2 years ago.....the first year they played a Prime Book. All I said is that you need to play and perform Jimmer's book to be effective with it. In order to do that, you need the numbers in the hornline. That in NO WAY was meant as a disrespect towards Cru......If it came across that way, then I humbly apologize!!!

I didn't take that as bashing at all. What you said was absolute truth. It doesn't matter who wrote the book, percussion, drill or guard. If you don't perform OR have the numbers to perform, it is moot. Your comments were dead on, my friend!

  2. So somehow you're rubbing it in the faces of the Empire members who are from your hometown but chose to march with Empire instead of your corps?

Do you really have the juice to do that?

Empire didn't steal those kids ... we tip-toed around any of those kids who asked about coming to Rochester...and we completely kept our hands off kids like Sean Bartlett (I DID want to steal him) in fact, I know that most of the grown ups in Empire have been very supportive of what you're trying to do in Erie.

I'm expecting some good natured "in your face" stuff from fans of teams that have actually beaten Empire at some point in the past 26 years. But if I hear that members of the Lake Erie Thunder are hassling kids from Empire who just happen to be from NW PA, then I will show my support for those members.

Edit: I'm not going to be diplomatic. If you guys bust the chops of those kids - I got their back.

Nobody is "hassling" anybody. See my PM

  3. Very true! I guess I meant in the past...like years ago.

Why bring all that up? They are obviously struggling and negativity on here isn't helping. Numbers are down and Cru is fighting for their lives. While I may not love the book, I fully support the corps and staff. I hope they manage to pull it together and salvage the year. All of your questions and comments on here these past weeks would be better served in PM fashion with Mike Linton or Gary Goldstein. Your open forum approach almost sounds like bashing. Get a grip, Keith.

  5. Stop looking back... you guys got a show to put on in 2 weeks when the DCI guys roll into town!!!!

Remember, you're the only REAL entertainment that night!!!!

"They used to have one there. The stadium is one of the most "interactive" stadiums that there is. There's basically no room between the sideline and where the first row starts!!!!

I believe a long time ago, it was even mentioned that at the Erie Stadium it could even have been host to a Regional showdown becuase of it's location between most of the Northeast corps and the Midwest corps. It would definitely give groups like the Kilties, Govies and Minnesota Brass a chance to come East for a weekend and get on some of the DCA sheets while competing against corps like Empire, Syracuse, Rochester, Reading?, etc"

    Stop looking back?

    Hello,Pot? Kettle on line 1.

Why don't ya come on up and play? You can take my spot, since I gotta work a real job. Maybe you can help them figure out what they did wrong and get a DCA show back in Erie.

You must be really bored in Del wherever it is you are.

  6. So why isn't there a DCA show in Erie?

They used to have one there.

If it is something financial, I can understand that... everything involving money pretty much sucks now a days... But I'd like to see a DCA show come back to Erie... It also gives the alumni corps a chance to come out and play too!!!

    Whatcha all think?

I think that is a wonderful idea! Oh, wait, the last 2 shows in Erie, the sponsor lost upwards of $!0,000. Maybe THAT'S the problem?? (And yes, I was on the board and involved in both)

Really Mike, ya think a PM to Gary or one of the board MIGHT have been a better approach??

  7. Wow, lol, this gets crazier every day. Sensitive people "in here." I was looking for clarification, and I got it. My ducks weren't in a row...that was the whole point, to learn. I learned, and explained why I thought the way I did, nothing more.

Keep bringin' the hate, though, it's entertaining.

Again, this is Tom's wife, not Tom.

I don't think the "light bulb going on" inflection can be felt/heard when READING a post. I read it as kinda...OH! OK! I GET IT NOW!!!!! ... LOL A lot of people are feeling bad about this whole thing and I think over time the open wounds won't be so salty and all will be taken in the right context. No harm. No foul!

  8. This is Tom's wife Shelly, NOT Tom.

A few months ago Tom and I stopped in to a rehearsal. We were impressed by the amount of people who had come out for the horn line. When I inquired about the battery, I was told that there was some kind of deal with Lake Erie Percussion, but that they were finishing up their winter season and then would begin working with Thunder. It seems that since that commitment fell through Thunder had no choice, but to go inactive with so little time to try to "drum" up that section. It seems however, that the Statesmen will have a full drum line though...if you get my jist. (this is only from what I Heard) The colorguard problem has to be factored in here too. For a couple of months some where asking about who and what they were going to do about that and couldn't get an answer right off.

The idea was nice, the recruiting needed more push. I had suggested several times that the community calendar, which is a free service, be used to televise the rehearsal dates and times and NEVER saw it advertised. This most certainly would have reached a broader base of people. I didn't see flyers around town, my kids didn't see any at school, I ONLY saw news of this new corps here.

It is sad to see the plug pulled, but as least the hope isn't completely dashed. I am not up on all the ins and outs of forming a corps, but in my opinion...Maybe they came out too early and should have had more ducks in a row and better commitments before officially announcing this whole thing. It is unfortunate too, that Erie really isn't the "Drum Corps" town it was YEARS ago.

IT was nice having Nick and Mikey B, over the other day. Chin up boys!!!! and...Yes Nick got Tom to drag his horn from the attic and play a little...Should've seen the dust that blew out of that thing!!! It was better than a smoke machine! LOL

Here's to hoping you guys can come up with something! I will do what I can to get the word out if they decide to try again. All you have to do is ask.

  9. I won't comment on the music stand thing. I will say this though: It is not Nick who loves music stands.......it's SCHUBE! Especially music stands in August. Just ask him.

I just want to give updates. The latest update is that I have all music handed out memorized. I do use a music stand for reference. Especially measures 70 - 84 in Mod #2. I still can't believe that there is a 16 count "E" above High "C" at measure 78. It's there though. The Lead Sops in Mod #2 are pretty busy starting at measure 50. Then I see measure 70 coming and I think to myself: "Crap!" Then measure 78 comes along and I'm thinking: "You have got to be kidding me!" You know what though......I'll get it................I'm just venting. I'll have it by our next rehearsal. I'm stubborn. I'll play everyday until I get it. My goal is to play measures 50 to the end of Mod #2 w/o resting. That's my commitment.

I do realize that maybe I talk too much. I'm bored. So I practice and write on DCP.

I am Nick......I play Lead Sop........finally Poppin' Double "G's" again...........I lost all kinds of range and I don't know why. I also lost 70 lbs and I still don't smoke. My wife quit too.

At this time I would like to say hello to Donny Allen. (Haven't heard from him in a while and I wonder how he's doin'.)

Just spoke with arranger, and he said reprise of mod #2 measures 50-84 WILL be repeated in the finale....maybe 3 or 4 times.

Or did he say they were cutting measures 50-84?

Or, am I hallucinating from lack of nicotine?????

Find out Sunday! Sorry, I will be back on the road, so have fun!

  10. T-birds were doing a parade and our drum major's teeth flew out onto the street in the reviewing area. Too funny...

Funny????? OMG, Try hysterical!!! Mary and I were right in front of him and I, being in total shock, missed stepping off and ended up with Joe's snare in my Arse. That is a moment I will NEVER forget! Mark Time... Flop! In one swift motion the teeth came out, he caught them and shoved them right back in his mouth. Hardly missed a beat...unlike the rest of us! hehehe

Oh, this is Shelly again....I hate logging of then back on for ONE comment! LOL

  11. Still playin' everyday. Still tryin' to find some lip. Still playin' with VIBRATO. Still strange. Still not smoking. Still tryin' to memorize. Still doin' what I gotta do. Still like writin'. Did I say still strange?? Did I also mention that I am who I am? I am Nick. I play Lead Sop. Still tryin' to keep this thread on the 1st page. After all of this, chicks dig Nick...........................

    .........................and there ya have it.

Really stretchin' to keep this on page 1 Nick. You runnin'out of things to say??? Say it ain't so!!!!

  13. Hornline has the second 2/3 of the book......................nice sounds coming out, Kenny, Jake, Steve, and Chris got a lot done yesterday with their sections..................Gina started everyone on the Marching and Movement basics..........The opener (On the Waterfront) will be available to members in the coming days...............we could use some lower brass players........................and, like everyone, we are accepting members for all sections!

Had a chance to stop by and I gotta tell ya....they got it goin' on! The sops and mellis were really coming together and, though short handed, the low brass section was workin' it! Even though they were obviously fatigued, the last time through the closer was by far the best. Ken gets more and more notes out of these guys every time they play. I was kinda itchin' to play, but Shelly made me leave my horn at home!(j/k honey!)

It will be exciting to watch this corps grow and improve, and the finished product will indeed be something to see!

  14. About time you get them back on the West Coast where they belong. Been having a bunch of real little ones around Harrisburg area the last 2-3 months. After the authorities realized it wasn't old salt mines collapsing it was like "Oh yeah, we had an earthquake.....".

    http://neic.usgs.gov/neis/last_event_state...nnsylvania.html

We get them here in Erie once and a while since we sit right on a fault up here we are just waitng for a good one. Last one I remember was in the mid to late 90's and we thought a delivery truck had hit the building I was working in. Looked outside...No truck. Radio news informed the area it was in fact an earthquake. As far as I am concerned...Cali can keep the BIG ones.

this is Shelly not Tom. (too much trouble to log off then back on)
