  1. I think you are WAYYYYY off. I don't know anyone in the drum corps community who has given a kid a hard time, and I also do not personally know anyone who is a fan of Hopkins.
  2. they could have made a mistake by giving the penalty, but they didn't. made a mistake by removing it. I have seen this mess before when the removal of the penalty had MUCH more impact on things. Hopkins should have sucked it up and taken the penalty.
  3. So why couldn't he have handled it right tonight? I don't fault him for bringing it up, but when he did it the way he did, he should expect repurcussions. Would have been so simple to handle it properly.
  4. in 96 Blue Knights stopped half way thru their show and left the field, then restarted
  5. Uhhhm, not the first time DCI has reversed a Quarterfinals Penalty, only the last time changed who won quarterfinals
  6. I think he gets alot of credit for the Cadets. I have hated the shows the last 3 years, but I can still respect the level at which they are achieved. All I am saying is that sometimes it seems like he goes out of his way to make things hard on himself.
  7. part of the issue I have is that the delay also hurt BD. They showed up at the gate on time and ended up having to wait to go on. They were delayed just as much as Cadets.
  8. before he brought the corps out. When I taught we always had an instructor take a look at the field while the previous corps was on, and that was more than 10 years ago. It would not have been difficult for Hopkins to have handled this in a MUCH better way.
  9. #1 I would wager the kids already know this #2 I would also wager none of them are reading this because they have enough sense (unlike us) to be in bed by now
  10. Hopkins does a good job looking out for his corps, but any reputation he may have he has brought on himself. tonight was a prime example. I would have expected Regiment to get a penalty if they had pulled the same thing.
  11. Thats all I am saying. Yes, DCI should have maintained the field better, but the Cadets were not in any danger, neither were the Cavies, or Regiment, or Bluecoats. We would all have loved to have freshly painted fields to march on, but it just doesn't happen. And I also have no issues with Hopkins holding DCI accountable for the field conditions, but there is no doubt he could have done it differently. It would have been easy for him to send a vis tech to check the hashes before the corps entered the field.
  12. No this is not the first time a penalty has been reversed the week of finals, although it wasn't Dan
  13. So you know the level the Cadets perform at. Do you honestly believe...honestly, that the kids were in "Danger" tonight, or were being asked to perform in conditions any worse than what you or I had to perform in?
  14. In the big picture it doesn't matter. If it was semis or finals yes, but thursday night is just not that important. In 96 Regiment was more than a full point further out of first at qrtrs than they were tonight. I do agree with the perosn who said all the corps should ask to have the field relined before they perform tomorrow. what can DCI do? they have already set a precedent that its ok.
  15. So you are saying in the 2 years you marched at Cadets you never did a show with faded front hashes and managed just fine? I would even say the 05 and 06 Cadet shows were more complicated and demanding from a visual standpoint than what I saw tonight. I am not saying he would lie, but I have no doubt he would sieze any competitive edge he can get.
  16. Why is anyone surprised by this? and I am sure DCI didn't just decide to remove the penalty on their own. I have already sent an e-mail to DCI stating my unhappiness. and for the record if it had been Regiment, they would have deserved the penalty just as much as any other corps. In effect Hopkins held up the show for 15 minutes, gained what some would consider a competitive advantage, and payed nothing for it. I think he deserves to be able to hold the show up, and have new lines, but the price should be 2 points. Shame on DCI Someone in the other thread suggested every corps director demand to have the field relined before they perform tomorrow and see what DCI does about it. Would be interesting.
  17. the problem here is DCI made the right decision. If Hopkins wanted fresh lines and wants to wait until his corps has taken the field to ask for them, then he is trading fresh lines for 2 points. You shouldn't be able to delay a show 15 minutes, get what some would consider a competitive advantage, and not have to pay a price for it. If cavies had held the cadets at the gate for 15 minutes I have no doubt hopkins would have wanted them penalized.
  18. because the other corps directors know their kids are capable of handling deteriorating field lines. If any other director had honestly thought a kid was in danger they would have done something. The Cadets were never in danger from faded hashes. The Cadets are at a level where you can deal with that.
  19. probably not. if it was saturday, or even friday maybe, but in the big picture thursday night is just not that important
  20. neither, was supposed to be a joke, although it wouldn't surprise me
  21. Hopkins threw a fit and threatened to pull the Cadets out and go home
  22. Scary isn't it? Looks like Hopkins really does run the activity
  23. exactly. Too bad Cadets will have to perform two slots earlier than they should have.
  24. we all know its. not. the. same. thing. but the guy sounded EXACTLY like Napolean Dynamite!
