  1. 6:15 PM Arabia Shriners Drum & Bugle Corps - Houston, TX

    Exhibition

6:30 PM National Anthem - Presented by the Arabia Shrine

The Houston-based Arabia Shriners are absolutely unreal. Very entertaining and very very loud. They practically blew the rest of us away with a 6 man hornline last year.

    Click their website for details:

    http://www.shriners-houston.org/units/drumandbugle.htm

They are worth the price of admission alone. ($5).

  2. Alliance will be performing:

Saturday, August 4th in Nashville, TN

Saturday, August 18th in Rockmart, GA

Sunday, August 19th in Alpharetta, GA

Saturday, September 1st prelims in PAETEC Stadium, Rochester, NY

Isn't Alliance performing this weekend at the DCI show (July 14th)?

Incidentally, Sunrisers are scheduled to perform on the 14th as well.

  3. This is all entertaining and "kinda" gives everyone an idea of where they stand .. but it won't really be accurate until August .... or even Prelims. Maybe over the course of the next few years, the judges will become more accustomed to the sheets and there will be more consistency in scoring. Until then, it's fun isn't it? :)

    amen to that!

    with an emphasis on "kinda".

  5. Cainan, statistically speaking your sample space needs to have at least 30 respondees to be statistically significant (central limit theorem, baby).

    THANK YOU, SMOOTHY!!!

of course, you have to assume a gaussian distribution.

If everyone got this concept, we might have a lot different view of the media-skewed world.

Rock on Governaires!, very much looking forward to seeing you guys again in Rochester.

  6. I sure hope this is a temporary step-back to regroup. I've always enjoyed the RCR shows in the past. I look forward to seeing you guys on the field again next summer.

    echoes my sentiments exactly.

Very sad to see RCR go inactive, best of luck with your future plans and getting back on the field!

  7. Only 31 more days to get your advance sales tickets for Brass on the Bayou!!!

Did you miss "Brass Hysteria" in Dallas last weekend?

Do you want to see two corps in their first year of existence?

Do you want to support drum corps in Texas?

Do you want to see high-caliber junior and senior corps in competition at the SAME show?

Brass on the Bayou is the answer for all these questions and more.

    Buy your tickets here:

  8. They both were very happy to get this feedback so early in the season and in their existence.

    absolutley!

It was great getting a judged show in so early. No doubt the feedback will be invaluable to all our programs and ensure we continue to improve throughout the 2007 season! Thanks again to FPAA for another great Brass Hysteria!

Also agree with Shadow that more local, relatively easy drive shows are a great thing for all of us.

Can't wait to see Masquerade for the first time! Austin Stars for the 2nd!

Drum Corps is in Texas and this is just the beginning.

FPAA always puts on a great show! If you are in the Dallas/Fort Worth area this weekend, check out this show on Sunday and see what competitive Texas drum corps is all about!

  10. I've been debating it for some time now. It's only 35-40 minutes from my house so there is really no reason for me to NOT go! B)

Nope, no reason not to. Very familiar with Decatur as I worked there for several years. This is a no-brainer, with several live top quality corps in a nice venue.

Wish they would have had this show when I was still in Indiana.

  11. Well aussies can be made to work. But if you look at that SCV pic, you'll see that they have their heads tilted to the side. aka Not a natural playing position. Something along the lines of water in the ear syndrome. It's not the first thing you expect to see when practicing M&M basics without horns. Or when they're casually walking down the street.

Shadow, your humor gets me every time.

It was great seeing you at the Texas Preview on Saturday. Things seem to really be crankin' up in Austin.

  12. I'll go out on a limb and predict that the Govies will wow their way into Open Class and beat the Bucs by three tenths of a point at Finals.

Oh no. You brought up the little known and seldom used "DCA wow rule". Let the discussions begin.

Best of luck to all the Class A corps this season!

Still looking for a review of that Coon Rapids show. Rock on Govies, Brass and Chops!!!

  13. How'd it go?

It went awesome!! Great job everyone involved in producing this great event, and of course special thanks to Brent for all his hard work.

Great weather (no rain and nice temps), GREAT CROWD (didn't count them all but at least 1000 plus). It might be tough to get a review as most of the audience probably weren't drum corps types but just bystanders and probably don't check out DCP. They certainly enjoyed the corps however, and the mass corps at the end rocked (at least from the line)!!

Looking forward to preview 4 next year!

  14. SWEET!!!!!!!!!! This FREE show is going to ROCK!!!! Bring a chair and a cooler, and if you arrive early I bet you can sneak over and watch us all warm up in the nearby park.

hmm we may have to unchain the monster on the steps there.

    and don't forget that:

The radio's playing some forgotten song

    Brenda Lee's "Coming on Strong"

    The road's got me hypnotized

And I'm speeding into a new sunrise

  15. Hey, guys, I'm not saying any of this will ever happen, and it still remains to be seen how everything is going to shake out over the next few years. But as time goes on, equity is going to be an issue. Now, if CV, Frontier, Gold, GCS, MCL, Jackson, and Say... Masquerade were all powerful, large corps all scoring in the mid-80's in late July, then your argument holds... there's not as much of a reason to travel quite so much.

and what a beautiful day that will be.

This is what the future of the southern all-age circuit could be/has to be, with the addition of perhaps 3+ more groups (in the works).

The future is bright, and the sky is not the limit to our activity.

  16. This Saturday is the field debut of Minnesota's three DCA corps, the Drums Along the Rapids show in Coon Rapids, MN. The show starts at 6pm and also features some DCI corps, but they're really just there to fill out the line-up. :P

    Performing corps:

    Phantom Regiment

    Blue Knights

    Blue Stars

    Colts

    Pioneer

    Capital Sound

    Chops, Inc.

    Govenaires

    Minnesota Brass, Inc.

Best of luck on your show this Saturday! Go Minnesota DCA corps!

  17. I don't know if anyone has made any actual plans, but I know there is definite interest in socializing afterwards. Sholz's is only a few blocks away, perfect place for food and drinks and they have plenty of space indoors and out. Of course there's sixth street and the warehouse district if people are in more of a bar hopping mood.

Thanks Kevin, You are sure to see plenty of GCS members then!!

Looking forward to Saturday, the first great Drum Corps event of the season in the Great State of Texas!!
