  1. My last note on this go round: Is the synth sound driving people away? YES. It drove me and my son away this year. We live 5 minutes form the Dubuque show and didn't go last night, FOR THAT VERY REASON. Synth sound isn't drum corps TO ME, so I DON'T GO. Did it drive me away? YES. Case closed. Except for those 21 people, who are most likely staff and judges that actually like low end rumble in an acoustic setting.

  2. Thanks for the standard response. I've read this one a hundred times in the narration threads. You have the canned response down pretty well. Bitter, get over it, yadda yadda.

But I think you miss the point. If you cannot hear 20 tubas, why have them on the field? That's my question.

But this PA goes to eleven. Thats one more than ten, so eleven is better. Oops, there goes another drummer. And 21 out of 177 people think it adds to the show. I guess the minority wins.

  3. ...a location with a larger/higher grandstand would be ideal for this show BUT you cant beat the friendliness and hospitality of the staff that runs this show!

I'm almost always surrounded by great Colt fans who are very music inspired.

Seeing the school kids get their special music awards is a nice treat.

Wish all cities had a love for music and teaching it to their kids like Dubuque has!

Cant wait to see tonights show!

This is always a well run show. A little long in the awards department, but well done none the less. On a side note, I work for the electric company and I am purposely providing ONLY enough power to work the lights. No amps in the pit and NO SYNTHESIZERS..... muahahahaaaaa. Acoustic drum corps, what will happen?????

  4. I know you've gone on record as being pro-woodwind but I'm curious as to how you feel on this issue?

MikeD has made his postion known many times over that EVERY rule change is VERY GREAT to EVERY corps in DCI. It is all there in the thousands of threads. I said a long time ago that this synth thing would merely be a cover for the horns and it won't go away no matter how much the VAST MAJORITY of polled fans think, because we don't count. Now we get the mic'ing of horn sections too. I guess the extreme talent of this days modern corps can't produce the sound of yesteryears much less talented corps that had so much easier shows ( no mics, no amps, no dr beats or vocal dutting, we used drum majors). To stay on the topic, the use is VERY clear to most people and it is an annoyance, but then again, we are just paying fans who are too stupid to have a legitimate concern.

  5. This is factually inaccurate. Results at Normal were not identical to Finals placements (at least in the top 3).

    Normal, IL 6/26/09

    place (finals 08)

    1(4) Carolina Crown 77.500

    2(3) The Cavaliers 77.100

    3(1) Phantom Regiment 76.300

    4(8) Blue Stars 70.400

    5(10) Boston Crusaders 70.100

    6(11) Glassmen 67.500

    7(14) Colts 65.600

    8(15) Spirit 64.500

That gives mr hope. I am going to see the show either way, but it seems to be the norm. If corps x was in 4th last year then that is what they should start in this year. I don't believe it, but it does pan out over the years.

  6. I am leaving Dubuque for the show Friday in the early am, anyone wanting a ride can pm me. I will be coming back after the show, so no hotel. You will need your own ticket and some gas money won't hurt. Get with me asap. I have room for four people, three comfortably, but a kid in the middle back will work.

  7. Judgemental ? no, observing and commenting on conversation, yes. Read close, Im not judging anyone but I am commenting on the actions taken by some to try and oppress others and their feelings.. Big difference. We are all humans, all flawed and all trying to be the best we think we can be. Instead of smacking down someone who you may feel can benefit from your wisdom...guide him/them and help him/them......

    G

So tell me then that you are not trying to supress/ oppress my opinion, by an attempt at "smacking me down". Leave the volunteers alone, to stay on topic.

  8. Being CIVIL, and RESPECTFUL. Key terms there. Flame from behind a computer as you are doing yourself? I have gotten dirty for more than one corps, donated time and lots of MONEY. The stuff that susposedly talks. IT DOESN'T. By the way, I haven't done worse in my own backyard and never would, somebody has to set the standards to be upheld. I am no proponent of greedy 7, but I don't care that they want to do their own thing, but I do care when people act like idiots to the people who are also trying to help others. Booing the members of the Cadets because you don't like George was reprehensable (sp?) but to act childish to a volunteer who is helping others is NOT in any way shape or form, ACCEPTABLE. These are my views and my views only, and I don't hide behind a computer screen. I am Mike and I live in a little white house by the Julien Dubuque bridge in East Dubuqe. PM me and I will give you my address......

  9. I'm not trying to "ruin anyone's experience" but clearly I don't understand I guess and I apologize if anything I've said has offended anyone, I'll simply not go. I don't condone treating anyone poorly and that has never been my intent, I assumed a polite message would be passed on to the director but I've never volunteered and my corps did not have or require many volunteers, so I overestimated the amount of time volunteers see directors. I'll return to my pathetic existence now.

That is the best post from you on this thread. Thanks for showing you do get it. It really isn't the business of the volunteers to run to the directors every time someone complains at a booth. They are just helping their ( usually kids ) corps out by volunteering to be in a sales environment while the whole show passes them by. They don't need salt in their wounds.

  10. That's great if you think it's pathetic, I see it as customer feedback. I don't see how it is "harassment" like some of you are claiming. Is it "harassing" if you don't like something in a store and so you tell them why you're upset and why you won't support them? I admit there are probably better venues but I don't understand why it is so appalling to politely, briefly complain to the clerk.

Complain all you want to a PAID clerk, but to a VOLUNTEER, shows your lack of understanding. They hold NO power whatsoever, but you are intent on ruining their experience to make yourself feel better? Hows that life working for you?

  11. I, for one, would have no problem telling souvie staff that I'm not making a purchase due to a corps involvement with the G7 proposial. Years ago I worked in customer service. If one or two people had a complaint the issue was never addressed, when the complaints became epidemic management took action.

A polite "I disagree with your directors position" is all it takes. When the souvie staff gets several comments a night they will take it back to the director.

Seeking out members for this type of discussion is inappropriate.

Take your complaints to the people that "care?". A souvie person is no more than a volunteer who could care less what your take on politics are. They are the last people to whine to.

  12. I am personally not mad about Greedy 7 proposals, yet. I most likely won't care. I will miss some of those 7 corps if they take their game and go home, but I will still attend the real drum corps shows that DCI will put on. I might even attend one g7 show to see what their big difference is, but I do wonder about their recruiting power. How many kids will want the different experience vs. the DCI experience? Might help, might hinder, don't know. The corps that stay will be benefited by becoming the higher placing corps thereby drawing new recruits and we will have a whole new look to the elite. Could be interesting. I never got mad about Star, and I loved Blast, but only went once. I still attend DCI shows each year. I moan and cry about some useless changes, but I still support the activity.....untill woodwinds turn it into band, then I can retire.

  13. The OP seems pretty serious.

The stupid metronome stuff has nothing to do with the actual topic of the thread. I'm just trying to discuss the actual topic.

Actually, this is a spoof thread and not meant to downgrade any corps actual doings. Its ALL 4 FUN.... bring on the first show.
