  1. :worthy: 76 fan, I am thanking you. You are the first one to get my question. I am not asking why my corps did this or that, just how do you decide that they were worth a 15 and not a 15.1. I love the activity and like every corps show that I have seen this year, some more than others and I could tell you why with each show. Why can't the judges. With the ease of the computer it would be very easy to take 15 - 30 minutes out of your day to give a synopsis. You can say they don't owe anybody an explanation, I am saying that by spending over a 2500 on merchandise and shows this year ( Normal Il, Rockford Il, Madison Wi, Dubuque Ia, San Antonio and all three of the finals week shows, shirts from BD, Cavaliers, Phantom, Cadets, Crown, Colts, Scouts, Blue coats, Boston, Blue Star, Pioneer, Southwind, DVDS and CDs from Cavaliers2,BD3, PR3, Cadets4, Crossmen2, Crown2, Boston1, SCV3, Bluecoats2, the legacy series, 2005 Championship dvd, patches from EVERY corps and gas money in every 13th through 21st jar, not to mention being a platinum supporter of the Colts.......THEY DO.
  2. Yes, I am a Colt alum from the 80s along with the Guardsmen and Sky Ryders, but I am not pushing for them to get anywhere they don't deserve. I am just questioning why judges can't have some kind of fan forum so the fans can know why the drumline got a 15.5, or why the A corps was better than the Z corps in a certain area. Do I think that judges cheat? No, but I do think that they go into a show with a pretty good concieved notion about where any certain corps should place and score. I have seen that some corps tend to get better scores while not appearing to the stadium full of former corps members to have been the better corps on any given night. Like I said before the Colts /Spirit fight for the final spot should be between the two corps on field performance AT the time of said performance, not based on the last week or twos performances overall, hence POLITICS.

  3. I watched in amazement in San Antonio as the judging panel decided that Spirit was not only on top of the Colts but increased their lead. I have nothing against Spirit as their night show was way better than their morning show, but the their morning show was NOT better than the Colts. I know you can look at the caption numbers and see what the problem was, but to me that only tells me what numbers ( contrived) that the judges gave the particular corps. I do realise that the corps get a critique after the show, but how about explaining it in an open forum for joe fan to understand the unbelievable numbers? I have distrusted the DCI "judging game " for ever as they have no accountability for their actions. I would like to trust it and believe that a political fiasco doesn't control placement but without some kind of check and balance system how can anybody believe it. Any explanations or can we just accept that they are truly honest and reflective scores?

  4. I think that making top 12 was harder years ago due to the spread of top talent throughout the numerous corps. Most top corps got their members through their own feeder corps so there was some really talented people in some not so talented corps. Now days most of the top talent go to the top corps. Look at the rosters and see how many kids come from their local towns. Not very many corps today though, leads to some extremely talented corps. The top 6-9 corps now days would be top 2 in many if not all of the years with more than 25 corps.

  5. Yes, my comments brought out some intense feelings as I am sick of cowards hiding in the stands berating anybody. I want to point out that my Scouts comment is meant to be tongue in cheek just to bring out a fire from people. See how it feels when people attack something or someone you like? I actually enjoy the Scouts production this year. I also find it funny that the majority of these show reviews have to include the words" If you like so and so don't read this." If your doing a review do a review, if your giving detracting statements meant to demean then don't call it a review, call it a stab. I am not trying to stir up an old thread but am tired of the cowards of corpsdom. Take your opions to the director himself face to face. All this yelling reminds me of people blasting the convience store clerk for the price of gas. ( but do it over a phone so she won't see who you are). Shows are meant for enjoyment, go enjoy them...........

  6. <**> Yelling any negative thing before during or after a show is a COMPLETE lack of CLASS. He came form Madison, must be disgruntled with this years cymbaless 11th place at best production. Maybe they should add a singer???? Be very thankfull your loudmouth friend did not sit next to me. I wouldn't have been very cordial. Loudmouths need to be silenced. I hope he felt like a REAL man berating a person to their parents just because he doesn't like what she chose to do with her summer. You don't have to like any corps but you have no right to vocally criticise them at THEIR show. Next time instead of "hiding" in the stands and yelling, be a bigboy and go up to the person and voice your UNWANTED opinion.

  7. The real lowdown from an unbiased opinion. I have never marched for either corps but I have great friends that marched in both. Phantom was ON tonight, they have a great show. Garfield was not on tonight, they have a great show. This is EARLY July, nobody won a championship yet. Blue Devils also have a great show, but to all the haters out there, and there are a lot of them, the only show that still has incredible amounts of cleaning potential is Garfield. They have sooooo much going on that you would have to watch the show 20 times to catch half of it. I thinnk there are going to be a lot of whiners come August crying, politics blah blah blah, but unless BD, Cavies and Phantom can put more excitement and activity into their shows Garfield will win it. Now my hometown corps Colts got a nice jump tonight, both Crossmen and Colts were DURRRTY tonight. I have seen far cleaner Colts shows so their score is incorrect. I have not seen Crossmen untill last night and they were entertaining but a little cheezy. I hope these two corps can clean themselves up or their may be a new? face in top 12..... Blue Star anybody? Carolina Crown has a very Barber/Bartok ala Star of Indiana feel to it. These guys marched their tails off and very well could be in top 5 come August. My favorite show of the night was Phantom and they earned their score. Add some color though, the White Whiteness of the White was a little boring and the tan no color colorguard unis need .... some color. Awesome show all the way around and yes top 4 will be a toss up untill Finals..... now enough with the lamebrained calling crap out to the corps. Be a MAN and go down and tell their instuctors face to face how you feel about the show. The kids are only PERFORMING the show. Hate the creator not the performer. Grow up and hope you don't sit next to me at finals as I won't be on your side and I, like a man will face to face tell you what a Sally you really are.

  8. 11th may be correct but you can bet your bottom dollar that the judges will ....get.... them in. They are not bad, I have seen a lot of lower placing scores that are performing far better than last year. Most corps have improved and are doing well. The Scouts are still good they just need some direction.

  9. Great night for Drum Corps and some fantastic shows. Capital Sound are small, D3 corps that has very talented members. Horn solos were good and the tenor player in the drumline kicked some butt. Racine Scouts showed a humourus side utilizing a drunken sailor and dolphins getting chased by sharks. A well put together program for a very small corps. Colt Cadets were the only D2 corps and they showed some steadfast improvement from Fridays Madison show. Really well done guard. Blue Star-------- WOWWWW. They have really poured it on with power and emotion. They received more standing ovations than Colts, Scouts and BD combined. Their scores are really not where they are at competitivley. Somebody wake the judging machine up. Next up were the Scouts. They seemed very lackluster tonight and it showed through the music. The show is not a typical Scout show but it definitely top 12 material. Blue Devils were up next. They have a really interesting opening with "gun fire" heard all over leading into the hornlines musical entry. This show highlights everybody and the guard had the rifles and sabres flying high throughout the entire night. I still think that they are going to have a tough time finishing the season unbeaten, but it is possible. Colts were up next and put on a very spirited performance, the horns are loud and proud and the colorguard moves. It is nice to see that they still utilize a cymbal line and the line does them justice. Overall scores weren't worth mentioning ( judges opions not mine) but they finished exactly as expected with the Devils winnig, Scouts 2nd, Colts 3rd and Blue Star 4th. D2 Colt Cadets win, D3 Capitol Sound then Racine. Great show and awesome intermission with a group of highschoolers from Michigan playing for the crowd. Someone has got to start giving the Blue Star and Colts their due they are both way closer to Madison than the scores would indicate..... See you all in Rockford.

  10. They make the biggest blunders because they push the envelope and try things that most others only dream of. I used to love them, but this amp button with singing has turned me away, but there is NO WAY a corps can totally fall apart for 30 seconds of a 11 and 1/2 minute show and still win, UNLESS as was pointed out scores are virtually predetermined.

  11. Do not for one minute believe that the scores from scattered regions don't mean a thing. The judges are getting preconcieved notions on "where" any certain corps should be scored. When they all meet in a given contest, yesterdays scores are somewhat where the judges start the corps. You can say BS all you want, but scores are solely a judges want of where a corps should place and a lot of times not truly accurate of the corps given performance. You have to get to my point where scores and placements don't mean ANYTHING to me, as only one corps in the country at the end of the year will be happy with their placement and score. I go souly to enjoy the corps shows. Its kind of sad that DCI has gotten to the point of most fans knowing today in June who the top 3 will be in August and the judging guarantees it. Get rid of judges and let the fans vote their favorite of the night and shows will go back to be overall entertaining. Just my 2 pennies, go ahead and blast away.

  12. We did a concert number in 84 and it at that time was more to showcase our stunning guard work. I was a cymbalist on my knees with my back to the rifles doing their bombtoss a few feet from me. I was nailed quite a few times in rehearsal but never in a show. HEY, did they do that on PURPOSE? A concert peice now is anything with a less than 180bpm. I am glad I don't run now, we used to call it marching, now it is more of a marathon run. You members have my sympathy.

  13. I still have my 84 Sky Ryder jacket and mine too fits differently now. In fact it seemingly shrunk so much, I can't get it on anymore. I wore it with pride as often as I could and my kids will probably wear it to shows this year. It is silver and black with the rainbow on the back.

  14. There have been hundreds of hot corps women, and I bet the absolute top notch one won't be mentioned because sge was in a hornline or snareline with hats or helmets covering the beauty and an instument hiding their face. The guard better look good, that is their job. DM are also a rep for the corps, the most easily seen, so a good looking one is a great asset. Colts, Phantom and Stars DMs were very good looking, AND talented. Every girl in my last year with Sky Ryders were beautifull, especially my snare friend Debbie. Are you reading this??????

  15. I have watched the Blue devils and Phantom Regiment tour dvds and have to say that I am ticked. Why was this not thought of when I marched? They are done EXTREMELY well and offer some great insight. What I would like to see though is a diary running the length of the season. Show some practice time, some show time some critique time and the always fun freeday time. Let those that march watch themselves make memories 20 years down the road. Either way, I can't wait for my SCV dvd to arrive.
