  1. I was lucky enough to get some great pictures taken by my dear friend Ed Ferguson (RIP) while putting together the Defenders reunion taking place this July. I thought I would share a few with you. I have a lot of pictires, I'll put up a couple each day.

    Thanks

    Dale

These first couple are for Keith. I'm pretty sure this is The Cadets of Greece from NY.

    Thanks,

I spoke with Moe a few times and he did not go that far west. He stayed in the NJ/CT area and didn't even get to the World Open that year.

I did also speak with the radio station and then one of the old committee members. He faxed me a copy of the program cover but had no pictures or recaps. The newspaper is a possibility, I'll go in that direction but if anyone knows of anyone that might have pics from 77 of the Defenders I would appreciate it.

  3. Hi everyone,

In 1977 a corps I was with the Holy Family Defenders of Rockland, MA went to the US Open and made Open class finals.

I am looking for recaps, or the names of any photographer that might have been there. I went through a couple of people that worked that show but they don't remember if anyone that might have taken photos of that show, prelims or finals.

We have a reunion in July so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Dale

  4. WGI will announce the complete list today.

Sorry about the post yesterday. We decided to wait so that the units received their notification by letter and not see it on the news group first. All 26 promoted units will be posted on the WGI web site when we reopen after the holiday.

    Thanks

  5. Will need LancerLegend to confirm, but I believe you are correct. His first name was NOT really Duffy, but very few people know his real first name, and he was officially called Duffy.

(His mother worked with me briefly while I was marching and finally revealed his birth name to me. I have never told a soul what it is).

Steve you are correct, the marching majors made their debut at CYO Nationals in 1971. That was the big showdown of the east & west won by Blue Rock. Interestingly enough 27th was 7th in that show and two days later won the World Open against the same corps.

  6. That's right; it has been 25 years since the Holy Family/Rockland Defenders of Massachusetts preformed their last show in Montreal. The corps was a 3 time top 25 associate member in 1980, 81, 82.

The corps is having a reunion on July 7th and we are still looking for almost 100 former members and staff who were with the corps between 1959 & 1982.

Information on the event is available at: www.defendersalumni.org

    Thanks,1980sopranoslg.jpg
