  1. If were goin to talk to crown uniform history.....Purple was not even originally a corps color.....There uniforms their first year were actually white waiters outfits.......And then the corps moved to teal and red.....If you look at 1995 "stormworks" show there was no purple in the uniforms, white and silver......The corps didnt really adopt the purple look till the late 90s.....Then with the shift in staff and design team in 2003, the cream team was born

  2. an attendee told me that most campers were very young - high schoolers...

cool, because plainly the 2008 show resonated with that age group

    Wow jealous Much?????

But this was a record setting camp for carolina crown

"The 2009 season opened on a high note for Crown as the corps welcomed a record-setting turnout of 350 applicants at Nation Ford High School in Fort Mill, SC. The staff was excited at the talent level of the musicians and performers who were in attendance at the first camp weekend, not to mention their excitement towards what the new season holds!" -carolinacrown.org

  3. Yeah the success that has come to Crown is directly related to the amount of returning members who believe in what we're trying to do.......We have many 5+ year members in the corps.....and this is what will make the Troopers successful.....to the members of the Troopers, keep coming back, take my word for it, it is so much more rewarding to be apart of a growing organization. Your hard work and dedication will build the corps future

  4. I think this might just be a rumor (we havent even had our first camp yet)

Everyone at Crown would love to see the Troopers back in finals......we share some staff and some Crown age-outs are on staff at the Troop......With that being said I highly doubt that consideration for membership in the corps (crown) would depend on something like this.....We all wish the troop well......and last year (2008) we had a girl that marched Troopers 2007.

  5. I marched four years of drum corps and one year at The Pride of the Southland Band......I have to warn you they are very anti-drum corps.....They wont let you miss anything if they know it is for drum corps........It was a bad experience for me and that was why I only marched one season in that band and I'm about to march my fifth season of drum corps.......Choose drum corps its WAY better.

  6. The corps i marched with in 2006 used a delay effect on a mallet part in our show.......We were told that altering the sound electronically was illegal and against the rules.....We can only AMPLIFY acoustic instruments......We ended up taking it out of our show to comply with DCI rules and not take a penalty........If a delay effect is illegal then so is an effect that drops a voice three octaves........Perhaps because this "laugh" was during a very dense part of the show it went unnoticed by the judging community.........But it makes me wonder how BD didnt know that they were using an illegal effect? They must of realized that the sound they were making could not have been produced without the aid of an electronic effect and in turn against the current rules.

  7. They lie about their identity and revel in their DCI anomynity, and act as if thoughts about Crown are coming from unbiased, credible places in DCI, to try and raise the magnitude of their impact on drum corps. I remember one poster claiming to be "affiliated with another corps, but I must say that CC is truly setting the standard for brass blahblahblah...." etc. Things like that are done so people on DCP read and are like "oh WOW, this person has bias elsewhere, but Crown was incredible enough to completely win them over.....man, I should check them out, they must be a #### of a corps," or something. I don't understand how someone can think higher of their hornline, by being reassured because of posts THEY made about it. Like I said before, there's a huge difference between geniune excitement with some visible humility thrown in, and attributing your opinions elsewhere so as to supposedly inflate the value of the statements.

For what it's worth, Evan Vandoren is the only member of Crown that I've seen come on here and display modesty and graciousness when talking about his corps on a consistant basis. Go him.

See you guys on tour. Best of luck. I look forward to meeting some of the Crown people (okay, on second thought, I guess it's just Evan, aside from the CC people I know because of interactions not on DCP) I've talked to during the off-season, and seeing how everything is going.

Members of Carolina Crown are encouraged not to post on DCP. They are allowed to post if they keep their corps identity hidden. Most of us just watch the boards and dont post. I've only posted a few times. By doing this they make sure that nothing their members say can embarass the organization. A few people may have taken advantage of being anonymous, but I promise they are in the minority, All of us at Crown are very thankful to be were we are today. A corps that was 16th place three years ago, now a 7th place corps. We credit our success to our staff, dedication and the fans. Were just proud of the strides we have made towards excellence. And with that, good luck to all the corps in the 2006 season. See you on the road!!!!

  8. It amazes me some of the stuff posted here. A couple of observations--Note that I admit my bias:

No one from CC has posted anything here. No current members have come on here and talked any trash. At best, some have expressed their enthusiasm for the direction and pedeagogy of the current CC brass program. To their defense, it is a great program, taught by some of the best instructors ever to stand in front of a DCI brassline. The CC hornline does have a great sound and has come on strong the last two years. I would venture to say that they still have a long way to go, but that the potential is there.

These people are only guilty of being very dedicated to thir corps, instructors and programs. They have not trashed any other hornlines, corps or teachers.

All of this being said, I feel that the decision by the CC managment not to release the show continues with Crown tradition of remaining low-key about these things. I don't think that they are trying to hold anything secret. (anyone could come to a camp and blab all they wanted..), but I think that they wanted to leave people guessing by not discussing it here. The DCP reality is that corps announcements are disected and that people will try to predict a show's success before even hearing a note.

  9. If you have any comments concerning the technical part of the classic countdown, the sound, picture quality, or just your overall experience post them here. The man at Regal Entertainment responsible for putting togethor the Classic Countdown wants your feedback. Once this thread is filled up, it will be E-mailed to him as customer feedback. Hopefully through your feedback next year's countdown can surpass this year's in quality.

  10. Was'nt there also a mellophone soloist in Garfield (aka whatever!) who had only one hand. Early eighties i think.

Yeah, it was a girl I think, that is why they stil do that crazy horns down. It was made to accomodate this girl that had one hand, and I guess they just kept doing it. Thats what I heard
