  1. I think everyone is guilty of having a bias for this corps or that. Personally, I want to punch someone in the face every time I see SCV in 6th/7th place and BD celebrating another championship. And then, of course, I watch the videos and part of my has to honestly agree with the judges on this or that. I have never honestly see the judges make a decision that make me say "wtf?!"

  2. Oh for shame we don't waste more time in school on things like a shower when you've only been working out maybe half an hour.

It still couldn't be as bad as those kids that played pokemon, yugioh or magic (the gathering). I'm not sure what it was about trading cards and the audience it attracts, but they always smelled like urine...

lul @ bawker for removing my last post. Well played sir, well played...

  3. I am so proud of you guys BK!! You have made yourselves accessible for all to enjoy and did so with a fantastic product. Year to year you are always competitive and perform well. This year may have done more for recruiting/retention and endearing yourselves to fans than any other! You guys deserved to score a little higher, but scores aside you're the best 11th place corps I've ever seen and got the best crowd response in quite a long time. I cannot wait to see what you're going to do for next season and hope that all you vets will stay with Denver. With the talent and the levels you perform with now you will be flat out awe inspiring for next season!!! WAY TO GO BK, LOVE YOU!!! I GO ON!!!

Blue Knights Lead Sop/soloist '97, '98 and Biggest BK HONK EVER!!!!!

A great show indeed, but Magic of Orlando 2003 has my vote for best 11th place show.

  4. I am stuck traveling a lot for work so I don't get the opportunity to read the news about my favorite corps (or any corps for that matter). However, I was under the impression that Mr. Fiedler was taking over for Mr. Pearson. I just checked the website and I didn't see it mentioned anywhere that this was the case so I'll assume I misunderstood something I read somewhere and took it to be fact. If anyone has any info on the situation with SCV's Corps Director I know I would certainly like to know as well.

  5. Here was my thinking on starting this thread....

Many of us have seen our corps die, fold, whatever you want to call it. After seeing VK finally come back and rumors of others, I thought, what corps would I, and others, like to see come back if there was ever a possibility. Use your imagination, you know have fun and maybe reminisce. Relax...take it easy...have fun!

Considering that this is the off season, this is one of the better threads! Thanks to you, the OP, for creating it!

  6. I still own the pair of Brooks running shoes that I used in 04 and 05. They saw me through some particularly tough times and while they are worn out beyond repair I still attempt to wear them daily. I would recommend them to anyone that is looking for some reliable shoes for a drum corps season. They are a little price, IMO, but not nearly as bad as Air Force 1's or Jordan's or whatever is popular these days. IIRC I paid about $90 for them in the spring of 04. However I'm sure that with the economy in the condition it's in today, they've raised their prices considerably.

  7. Probably no one. 80 is about as big as pretty much any corps will go, without sacrificing talent.

Plus, there's tuning, and blend...and well, pretty much everything that goes along with music, except its much harder with more people.

And, from what I understand, Crown is the only corps marching 16 tubas this year.

    I may be wrong though.

Cadets marched 84 horns sometime in the mid to late 80s (I want to say 86 but I haven't touched my Legacy Coll. in a while). That was an insane hornline and they really didn't sacrifice any talent.

  8. Any word whether they'll be dropping the price for returning members? or just lower the price altogether? As a poor college student I work 40+ hours a week at a security job and have over 14 credit hours this past semester. Having extra money lying around is a rarity and I can't justify spending $100 on a subscription. I also found out that if you split the cost of the membership with someone, it only works if you both watch the webcasts on the same computer. I would like to see the price come down to about $75, then I'd bite...

  9. ...Ludwig Marching instruments (and Musser) are better quality than anything Dy-Nasty has ever produced.

I was never a drumline member but in 2005 the corps I marched used Ludwig percussion and had all sorts of issues. 3-ply marching bass drum hoops? Sounds like poor construction to me. Our drumline made up a slogan for the low quality drums, "Ludwig: The Worst Reason to Play Drums..." (an obvious play on the Pearl Slogan).

  10. Yes, I almost feel obligated to go and support the activity in anyway possible because I have gotten so much out of it, I'd feel guilty not to give back. Furthermore, my life outside of drum corps (School, Work, Friends, Etc.) is a polar extreme to the life spent in drum corps it's nice to mix it up a bit.

For events like this I like to bring a friend (or two) that have never really been to a drum corps performance, because it's a great introduction for those ignorant to the activity. If they show general interest in it, then it's usually pretty easy to convince them to go see a real show during the summer and thus, I have brought another non-DCI person into the realm of drum corps and usually they become a lifetime fan. If they don't show much interest and think it's kind of boring or not really something for them, no harm, no foul, we drove 20 miles and payed half the price it would have cost to see a live performance. I have to say, of all the people I have introduced to the activity I have had a handful really take to it right away and I've had some that were only semi-interested, but I have NEVER had someone flat out say, "that sucked, why would anyone watch/listen to this?".

I think for all of the people that will be going to see the countdown everyone should try and take someone new that has never seen DCI. You obviously feel strongly enough for the activity to be on a forum devoted solely to discussing it so why not share that with another person? Maybe they'll love corps even more than you and I once introduced?

  11. Now that I am past draft age I can say this. I think a draft of a certain kind would actually be beneficial to society. If you aren't going to college you should serve the country in some way. If you got drafted, you would have a choice.

I'm in college and if I had to, I'd drop what I've got going on now and serve. Hopefully, I'd be able to come back after however many years served and be able to pick up where I left off with my education (and then the Gov. can pay for it!).

  12. Those must be very secluded areas, then. It's very rare that I come across that kind of racism down here, and it's usually when i'm in some backwater town with literally one stop light

There is racism everywhere, people aren't always quick to say they hate these people or those people. However, we've strayed waaay off topic! More stories about locals doing crazy things! I've got one about not necessarily loving the locals, per se.

Finals in 05 Magic was housed at a school about 2 hours from Foxboro in Mass. It was a pretty ghetto neighborhood and we were informed upon our arrival that there was a shooting a few blocks from the school. Our admins decided that we were not allowed outside after dark, get what you wanted/needed from the buses, etc. before the sun set or don't get it at all. The food truck was parked mere inches from the door to the school to keep everything tight knit, etc. Well during one of our last visual rehearsals we noticed 3 kids with a hacksaw trying to saw through the chain of a bike that was secured to a bike parking thing. They were really going at it and after about a half hour they left only to show up again about an hour later with more heavy duty equip. They eventually got the bike and rode away. Aaron, our visual caption head, was talking over the loud speaker about them and the entire ensemble was in shock at what we were witnessing. Broad daylight, three kids are stealing a bike with over 135 people less than 50 yards away from them. Big Brass ones...

  13. Well, it's not like that anymore, thank God.

Unfortunately, in some places, it still is. Not with separate restrooms and stuff but I have witnessed people of different races treated like 2nd or 3rd class citizens. It's truly disheartening because there are very few white people that think this way but it only takes one bad apple...
