  1. Don's doing well... he has been banned from DCP for life... I just can't imagine what must have preceded that... he's ticked me off plenty over the years but never enough that I won't call him "friend".

If John, Duane, Kevin or anyone else from DCP - all of whom I admire - would care to privately explain why such a drastic action was necessary against an old retired drum corps guy whose passion for the activity sometimes gets the best of him, you know where to find me, but I personally have never seen anything on DCP from Donnie that justified a lifetime ban... but hey, it's their sandbox and I choose to play in it so play by their rules... I for one was a victim of the early days of RAMD and appreciate a monitored forum... and avoiding the utter chaos of a few sick individuals...

That being said... there's a huge difference between being sick minded and passionate about the activity. In his heart, I assure everyone, Donnie is a good drum corps guy...

Donnie says hello to everyone and has authorized me to give his email addy to anyone who might ask for it.

  2. Actually Ray, I have to agree... seems there might be something personal going on here... got a hunch the DCP minder involved is my Canadian friend who spent much of his drum corps life in Rochester, married a Patriot gal and fled to Las Vegas... have no way of knowing for sure...

If Vince Bruni were alive, he'd raise his eyebrows and say "Figures" as he and Donnie had a love/hate relationship that was quite extraordinaire...

Personally, I like Don and worry about his poor health... but he still knows how to scratch his fingernails on the glass and make everyone shutter just a bit... but you are correct, at our age - he's harmless and I don't understand the attention he gets on here... Certainly hope he's ok...

  3. for this championship there's just 2 classes... I think they intentionally limit it to 10 corps in each class...

    go to www.drumcorpseurope.org

there somewhere you will also find "European Ranking" which shows more than 10 corps in each class but apparently only 10 are accepted for the championship...

  4. NE what you saw in the hall was the HOF display that was set up. It was not the museum... for the Hall of Fame banquet and the 50th Anniversary Gala on Saturday night which had some 500 attendees... we did indeed set up a museum at the far end of the banquet room and it went over very well. Di and Tom Meek were in charge of displaying uniforms from many of the corps who helped define the 50 years - These were hung from the ceiling very effectively. Throughout, there was media shown on two giant screens that were prepared by Don Paluh, DCA's official photographer... and I collected memorabilia from many different people and displayed over 8 tables of the history of drum corps. I also brought in the Drum Corps Heritage Foundation people and Dennis Cole set up a historic display and Roman Blenski provided an amazing collection of "bugles" through the 50 years (and a few even older)...

While much of the material was on loan and has been returned to the owners, a lot was donated permanently and all of that material has been preserved by the Drum Corps Heritage Foundation. In addition to their board which consists of Dennis Cole, Kevin Gamin (Gadget) and long termed Blue Devil/Renegade Jeff DeMello... Roman Blenski, Steve Vickers and I have been asked to serve on the advisory board.

My thanks to all who participated - especially those who donated...

Highlights of the display included uniforms from all 4 non-North American corps who have competed over the years... Heartliner from Ludwigshaven Germany, Kidsgrove Scouts from Kidsgrove England, Inspires from Yokohama Japan and the first to come over the pond, DCUK's Alan Thompson's Southern Knights, from Brighton England - Southern Knights also provided their International Champions Flag from 1990 which became a centerpiece of the museum.

I also joined with many who got an education from Frank Dorritte on the history of the instruments... wow... does he know his stuff...

The entire championship was a bit subdued by the passing of Red Corso during the previous week. Red as I'm sure you all knew had been DCA Treasurer since 1974. The Gala and museum were something he asked for and planned. The place of prominence among the uniforms was saved for Red's personal Matador uniform and sombrero.

    Thanks Red...........................................

  5. Personally, I think that Cadets2 is and was a great idea - one that has indeed been most successful. There were a lot of learning curves to figure out how to make it work as it was neither a traditional DCA corps or a junior corps... they were/are a completely new animal... just as it took MBI many years to find a formula that meant both success at home and success nationally in the all aged arena, it could have been a lot harder for Cadets2 to put the quality product on the field that they did. While he had a wonderful staff to work with, I believe that Rich Hammond brought his experience in how the DCA animal had to work to succeed to Allentown with him. I would declare his tenure a success and feel confident that his leaving was more to do with the overall job description than the quality of the all aged corps. So I say "Well done Richie and best wishes for the future"

Now after reading that statement of fact, Richie is smiling broadly as he probably didn't expect that...

  6. Jim I've known you for a long time... almost always agreed with you and certainly have enjoyed your friendship... and of course speaking as a retired drum corps person and NOT speaking for DCA... I'm very disappointed that you felt the need to slam the timing without offering a viable alternative... let me make a few points:

    1. Some 500 people are attending the Golden anniversary Gala and then coming to the mini corps event - would you exclude them?

    2. Many of the mini corps people compete in I&E... scheduling for I&E is a nightmare as it is... I&E chairman is the most thankless job of the weekend... (Good luck Dick Fischette) How does he schedule around all these multiple performances?

    3. There are only so many management people to go around... they are taxed to the Nth degree over the 3 days... what timing would work better and allow appropriate and necessary staff?

    4. This schedule has developed over almost 25 years of trial and error... again... got a better idea??? I know a lot of people would be interested in any viable suggestion...

    5. Ghost could always ask to go on early... yeah right... NOT!!!!! I'm sure that Donnie and the gang are pretty pleased with when they're going on...

    6. I'm thrilled to have Hamburg Alumni there on Sunday... I hope that this "rocket" gives them a ride into full and permanent existence - and not just a one year thing... Keep it up Cooley and the gang... If anyone is doing both GR and Hamburg and the 11 hours is a problem, then like me, they should probably admit their age and limit what they're trying to do...

    7. Like many this weekend, I'm still a bit in shock as Red Corso's sudden passing has reminded us all how fragile life can be... to be vibrant and active a week ago Saturday and running the regional championship in Scranton and then the next day he's hospitalized from a fall and soon gone... Let's all sit back and take a deep breath and take stock of everything... we love this activity... it's not a hobby it's a way of life... but in the end, it's our lives, our health, our families that really matter... so let's all go out there this coming weekend and whether were performing or just watching and enjoy every moment of the activity we so love... and then go home and give our wives, kids and grandkids all a big special hug and thank you ... just for loving us the way they do...

    8. God Bless Red Corso... Please all keep him in mind as you enjoy every performance...

  7. thanks for asking Ray... strength rebuilding... plans for the weekend on as long as there is no further bleeding... my brother in law's funeral Sat. AM in Syracuse and my 50th HS reunion Sat night in Oswego... followed by Sunday's DCI show in Buffalo... if all that doesn't put me back in the hospital I'll know I'm cured. (oh and there has been no further bleeding since last Friday afternoon)

  8. I'm here... and Peashey is still trying to recover from a week in the hospital and is quite scatterbrained right now, but I seem to think that we only beat them in Portland Prelims, Portland Finals and Rome... They killed us in Lewisburg and beat us "politely" in dream...

Lewisburg almost scuttled the Portland trip it was such a travesty...

Don... perhaps the third show you're remembering is when we won the Syracuse show at the end of '64 which was Cabs only loss... that show was almost single handedly responsible for the Grey Knight/Crusader Merger that created the super corps in '65... or you're like me and count prelims and finals separate... so we clearly beat them 3 times...

interesting side note. I graduated HS in '64 (50th reunion Saturday night if I'm well enough) and my Dad a drum corps guy himself didn't want me doing "big time" Brigs until I graduated... so in '64 I was still with Fulton Gauchos... I became the family traitor and ###### off many central NY friends by not going to Brigs in '65 but rather choosing to jump on the band wagon in '65 with the supercorps... and of our 50 horns, I was the only one who hadn't previously been a Crusader or Grey Knight.

incidentally our biggest win over cabs was in Prelims in Oregon...

  9. OT

Fucillo is the largest Kia dealer in the world... but his commercials are obnoxious... but prices are great... and yes Nanci he did start in the North Country... and covers the upstate NY market Albany, Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo as well has his home stores in the Watertown area... I believe he spends much time in Florida now and continues to expand there... not sure if he's in other states...

he's also the largest Hyundai dealer in New York and has other brands as well...
