lol and I thought it was just me...
I had 2 MAJOR confrontations... one with sheriffs and one with Moosic Police... In both instances, the officers involved would have last their jobs in any major city.
and I was one of those in charge...

Well known adjudicator and instructor Dick Greene has passed following a battle with Cancer.
Dick is a former instructor/arranger for the Rochester Crusaders and a very good friend.
He was well known for many color guards in Western NY including Bolivar and Pioneer among others.
I was hoping to see Dick today at the NECGC Championships in Brockport where the members of their Hall of Fame try and get together each year... He will be missed by all... condolences to his family...

So Ray... Baldwin's are from Syracuse... (North Syracuse actually) they visit often... you from Syracuse or did they move into the area back when?
Their Mother (with the help of the boys) has made ads for Wegmans... this happened after one of the boys went on a talk show and talked about their parents and they were asked if they are in CA and they said "No Mom would never leave Syracuse and move into an area without Wegman's Grocery stores." Not missing a beat - Wegman's hired her...

don't know Pat but generally they do a casino and hotel together... the ironic part is that the town where they are buying land has recently voted NOT to allow casinos in a general referendum yet the politicians keep negotiating with the Seneca's or whoever... very interesting... as a skeptic, I can only wonder what's going on...
Further interesting question is that Wilmorite development is headquartered in that same area, but they have announced that they will bid for one of the recently legalized "gambling zones" to build a major Las Vegas style casino in the finger lakes about 40 miles down the thruway... and although I don't think they have gotten into the casino business before, they are big enough to do anything they want to money wise and will be bidding against the Trumps, Bally's and whoever of the world... but I guess the Indians want to jump the gun and try and claim their share first - before the big boys can mooch into their territory...
wow... this is fun to watch, but could be a disaster for what little bingo is left... let's hope not... but... who knows?

It's interesting Ed... and I certainly agree that their thinking outside the box is a good thing...
but this is a early 60's corps sounding thing... corps then - especially seniors - were often run as democracies... which meant that corps directors changed fairly frequently... the problem is that like evolution, changes occurred for a reason... the problem with their outside the box thinking is that as this period in drum corps hit reality over the next 2 decades and we went from thousands of corps to less than 100, we quickly noticed that the corps that survived were those controlled by strong leaders who were able to use their brains and leadership qualities to overcome changes in society...
The Vince Bruni's and Jim Costello's of the world survived, but hundreds of corps failed...
So in theory, I like their thinking... In reality? I'm skeptical ...

with the number of bingos left, (not many) some halls here like Patriots are holding their own... this is because of the decline of other halls... survival of the fittest... but Indian and now legalized gaming are a killer... tonight it was announced that the Seneca Nation is buying property next to Marketplace Mall in Henrietta for a new casino... each move like this is another nail in the coffin...

That rumor about Patriots was false... There has never been any thought of a return to the drum corps field... not since the bankruptcy and new management that saved the organization from chapter 7 (liquidation)... They have an excellent winter guard program at this time... and still have an excellent bingo hall - despite the downslide of bingo everywhere...
I must add that although I am involved somewhat on the fringe with their bingo game - doing some work for them and advising them, I am not part of the organization and have not been since my retirement in 2002 and do not speak for them in any way.

If I can go OT for a moment... Prayers are necessary for one of the really good guys in drum corps who marched next to me on mellophone... Dave Kausch... (Cru and Phoenix) he's in ICU with a sepsis infection - needs all the pull he can get... He hasn't been in the greatest of health, so this is no doubt very dangerous for him. Thanks

Ray... that Racine exhibition is legendary... as is Horlick stadium... the recording of 72 Crusaders there is the best recording ever of that corps... mostly because of the audience reaction which turned us on... and did the same for everyone else too... especially Cabs

We have been informed that after a week in the hospital, former Auburn Purple Lancer, Crusader, Empire Statesmen (and I think Phoenix) baritone, Kevin "SugarBear" Stevens has passed. Kevin was one of the most gentle and loving of corps brothers...
details are incomplete.

oh and I'm no expert on the new Brigs stuff but it's not Channel One... that leaves the Concerto which makes sense...
of course Shangri La and You'll Never Walk Alone were the others... both from the 50's... so all you old timers out there... since I don't know exactly what year that's from... who are the soloists in the old pieces? Mickey Masterpole? Arnold Zampi? Corky Fabrizio?
